I like to think that Figment is rebellious at his most during the latest revamp of Journey into Your Imagination with Figment, is probably due to being “trapped” and subdued by the Institute considering how much the predecessor tried to erase Dreamfinder and Figment. And heck the fact that Figment while not antagonistic towards the Dr. Listed as the scientist of the year, goes against the scientist and just takes over the ride. Yeah I would be mad too if my creator is not acknowledged, forgotten, and his ride/place he wanted to culminate imagination gets trashed by logical, science, and the such.

That the third version was meant to be temporary until the planned Project Gemini happen which while I don't know what they would've done, one video did say it may have retuend it to its former glory. But that's the only thing I have on it. Disney still seems to have plans for the ride though.

Original version. The addition of Dreamfinder with Figment, as a live character, gave life to the whole pavillion. The journey didn't stop after the main attraction . Having Dreamfinder as a presence , let you know that he was constantly working on his projects , observing his pavilion, observing guest reactions and keeping visitors aware of how that can find their sparks.

They do! Lord Mystic & Albert at Mystic Manor, and Sinbad & Chandu at DisneySea...
@TherealRNOwwfpooh Жыл бұрын
@@vjspivey Sinbad isn't necessarily a Disney creation, though. He, much like Hercules & other mythical heroes, came from folklore that preceded Disney coping him for the corporate behemoth's DisneySea attraction, just like how all of the Disney princesses and their princes are based on either European fairytales that are much more Grimm than the saccharine musicals Disney turned them into or are based on a glaring alteration of historical events (much akin to how _Pocahontas_ is a glorified white washing of Chief Powhatan's strong-willed daughter befriending a displaced colonial Englishman named John Smith -- who was voiced by Mel Gibson in the 1995 film, although this was, thankfully, before the "Lethal Weapon" star was exposed as a real world racist & subsequently, became a disgraced Hollywood actor after the fact -- during the early years of American's burgeoning settlement years just to move to jolly old England herself & eventually marry British socialite John Rolfe in the direct to video sequel _Pocahontas II: A Brave New World_ sequel that, at least in this case, better accurately depicts the true life of the real Pocahontas than the 1995 film which preceded it, _Beauty & the Beast_ is also an adaptive retelling of a 17th Century fairytale that, despite contemporary detractors trying to play the Stockholm Syndrome/Lima Syndrome card as a way of discrediting the titular characters as a couple, is actually coated with 20th Century feminist ideals, which also begrudgingly contributed the manifestation of toxic masculinity as a physical villain in the form of narcissistic retired war captain-turned-master hunter Gaston who not only subverts the standard tropes of the pretty boy heroic protagonist found in most other conventional fairytales disguised as morality stories deliberately written to scare troublemaking kids into becoming well-behaved children for their parents to be proud of, it's also painfully obvious that Gaston only wanted Belle for her looks as "the most beautiful girl in town" due to his own surface level vanity & because Belle is the only female in town intelligent enough to spurn his unwanted advances so it invariably became a pursuit for Gaston to win the unattainable prize no matter how many times Belle outright refused his proposal or even when Belle's own "harmless crackpot" father Maurice informed Gaston that he would never consent to forcing his daughter into a loveless marriage to such a cad like Gaston & because Gaston intended to make into his little trophy wife to show that he is as irresistible as he's been led to believe himself to be thanks to the townspeople treating him like the village hero; In all truthfulness, Disney's Prince Adam/The Beast & Belle -- as the opening song states in both the 1991 animated version & its 2017 live action remake, "it's no wonder that her name means beauty", since "Belle" = "Beauty" in the fairytale's native French language -- are only very loosely based on a real life couple who lived in 14th Century France, namely one Petrus Gonzalvus -- who was initially brought before King Henry the 2nd at age 12 as the exotic gift of a feral child in a cage only for the King to actually feel pity for the young boy despite the hypertrichosis disease which gave Petrus a lifelong animalistic appearance, as the King was actually keen upon using his now surrogate son as something of a passion pet project to see if he could be taught the ways of French noble customs, even if the average superstitious French person of that period would just take one look at Petrus & immediately compare him to the prevailing horror stories told about a local entity known as the Wild Man, which to French people was kind of like what would happen if a werewolf fused together with a sasquatch, hence the creation of the "Beast" in the iconic fairytale, however, unlike the literary & movie "Beast" whose sacrificial love for Beauty/Belle was able to undo the curse placed upon him to change him into a relatively safe & normal human princely form once again to skirt around the whole bestiality aspect of the relationship, Petrus had to live with his hypertrichosis disease for his entire life & even after his death, the French powers that be still weren't ready to acknowledge that he was more man than animal despite his outer appearance, so this sadly meant that he wasn't afforded the same courtesies his stunningly beautiful wife was presented with when she passed, as she was granted a full Christian burial befitting somebody linked with the crown of French royalty, although it was she who had become royalty due to her arranged marriage to Petrus, seeing as how it was King Henry's widow Queen Catherine De Medici -- infamously, she herself was recognized as having one of the cruelest reigns in all of French history following the death of her husband -- who had decided that she wanted to play match matcher by giving her late husband's pet project a female companion that she herself had selected out of her ladies in waiting -- rather conveniently, the chosen betrothed just so happened to share the Queen's first name of Catherine, although the latter's full title was Lady Catherine Raffelin, if I am recalling the Smithsonian Channel's documentary on the couple correctly -- because Queen Catherine De Medici was insisting that the strange couple birth offspring with the same affliction as their father -- no doubt, if they didn't do as her Royal Majesty decreed, they would've likely gotten beheaded, so it was advantageous for them that, although their sons turned out normal but were still given away to other families to avoid their growing up to be able to protect their biological parents from any persecution, their daughters contracted the same hereditary disease as their dad as the Queen had hoped -- because the Queen was covertly looking to parcel off any of the children who carried the disease to far wealthier nobles of much higher status than even their parents after sending the makeshift family off on a whirlwind celebrity tour across various nearby European countries so those who had the funds to come see them could look at them with morbid curiosity, perhaps feel sorry for the family if any of the viewers had any true empathy, or otherwise, feign outer sympathy whilst simultaneously maintaining their biased disgust from a reasonably safe yet monetary beneficial distance).

My Dad bought me a small Figment Plush and a t-shirt. Dream finder and Figment must not have been out for a meet and greet when I was there because I am sure I would have wanted a photo with them if they had. Today I always have to ride the Journey into Imagination with Figment at least once when I am at Epcot. I know it isn't the same ride, but it reminds me of that summer in 1986.

"I love all things Figment and Dreamfinder!" "I never got to ride the original ride." I can't lie, as someone who did ride (and love) the original, this made me genuinely sad for you. The remaining videos hardly do it justice, but I'm glad they exist. Honestly just figured most Dreamfinder (and, to a lesser extent, Figment) fans were us old folks who remember the original, so nice to see that isn't necessarily the case. My only real "story" is that I was lucky enough to have a chance to ride the original as a kid, and my family all loved it so much we went on it three times in a row. We've got some home movie footage of it somewhere, along with footage of me and my siblings all answering the question, "What was your favorite thing about Disney?" with, "The Imagination Ride!" Was the number one thing I was looking forward to when we went back in 1999... only to find it closed. Still heartbroken that first trip was my last on this ride. Finally went on the latest version this past year, and... I'm glad it's not the soulless version before it, but there really is just no comparison to the imaginative and whimsical nature of the original. Intrigued by the news of a movie, but I admit that I have quite a bit of Doubtfinder in me about it, lol. Here's hoping Dreamfinder isn't left by the wayside.

Here's my Figment journey: I was about 5 years old when I met Dreamfinder and Figment (early 1990s), and I have pictures that I treasure to this day of me sitting on my mother's lap next to them with my arm around Figment. My parents told me I would sob if they tried to take me away from Epcot, and there was one day we rode OG Journey 5 times in one day because it was what made me happy. They say I liked Figment & Dreamfinder more than Mickey! Well, that stuck. I collect Figment merch, I cosplay Dreamfinder as well, and I have become a librarian that loves to share the comics with her students. On top of it, I distinctly remember reading the comic for the first time and crying because of Dreamfinder's name. My first name is Blair. It felt very full circle in that moment.

Hey! There I am at 0:33 ! Was a pleasure to meet you Dan. Truly a great video that was alot of fun where I could feel the love & respect you have for the characters & ride throughout. *However*, there are a couple inaccuracies you may want to fix or add an edit to in the near future. The Language Arts Through Imagination/Figonia series started in ‘87 (not ‘88) Honey, I Shrunk the Audience opened in ‘94 (not ‘93), and Figment’s Place opened in the former Magic Eye Theatre exit/Kodak film & camera shop in ‘04 (not ImageWorks in ‘05). Also, there’s a portion of history/lore missing from here. There was Infact a live action show featuring a cable controlled puppet Figment in the works to launch with Disney Channel in ‘83 called Dreamfinders. There’s footage out there of some of the cast & some behind the scenes footage. Sadly it never got fully aired it would seem but a script exists of the pilot episode on the internet archive and it’s great stuff! I’ll link both the video & script I found in a response below Overall though, fantastic work! Thanks for keeping the Dreamfinder, Figment, and their little sparks of imagination alive. Best wishes to you!

The supposed reasoning for it’s cancellation/end of production was that it was deemed “too complex” by Eisner at the time.. but I theorize it was more personal/power & ego/inner political reasons within the company than anything technical. Just look at Pooh Corner & Dumbo’s Circus. Those were very technologically complex and yet they produced those all fine. Shame cause it seemed fantastic. Almost Fraggle Rock like in regards to overall quality & ambition in regards to sets & spfx.

(Disney was apparently attempting some sort of comic book shared universe based on the parks- this was also around the time they started hinting that Dreamfinder was part of the society of Explorers that is a major part of Tokyo Disney Sea.) However the haunted mansion comic was cancelled, due to low pre-orders I believe, but the upshot is that the figment comic showed Disney that people wanted Dreamfinder and now he seems to be on the return.

My sister and I had a particularly interesting encounter with Dreamfinder & Figment. It was somewhere around 1996 when Disney went through "the good times". She got to pet Figment and kiss him on the nose, and she introduced us coming from New York. Dreamfinder observed that you wouldn't find dragons in New York, to which I replied, "We've got gargoyles," referencing the 1996 hit animated drama of the same name from The Disney Afternoon. You could smell the cringe coming out from my mouth as those words were formulated and arranged in that statement. Maybe that's why you don't see Dreamfinder anymore. My cringe scared him away leaving Figment behind.

In regards to the unproduced Figment 3 book, the writer Jim Zub did tease that Spaceship Earth was connected to the Society of Explorers and Adventurers as some vast storehouse of accumulated knowledge.

The first comic con I went to (2015) I met the writer of the Figment comics, Jim Zub, and had him sign my Issue #1. I told him that I'd never been to Epcot, and I didn't know the ride, but that the book had really touched me. He was shocked that someone who didn't know the ride would read, but was glad. All these years later, I'm still happy that my first introduction to Figment was those comics.

Me, barely two minutes into the video: There's a Marvel comic about Figment?! *pauses video, goes and reads the entire thing* Me: Wow! ...All right, now you may proceed.

There was also a planned Dreamfinders TV show and latter Frank Angones had a pitch he was about to propose before he was recruited into the Ducktales reboot.

I think Disney should take that comic and turn it into a movie. We need more Steampunk movies in the world. It would be awesome if that Figment movie should be at least inspired by the comic. As for an imaginary critter that would pop up for me, it would be one of my Grimlins, little furry balls of curiosity. They're like Magpies, they collect trinkets, whether they are important cogs, or the nuts and bolts holding the thing together.

Hey Dan! Love the long format video with lots of deep dive info! I'm a big comic fan and would love to see you explore more of the Disney-related comics in future, but please include credit! It is such a miss to not credit creative teams on comics as it is in theater. Jim Zub is the writer and Filipe Andrade is the artist of the 2014 run. Jim Zub continued writing the 2016 run and Ramon Bachs is the artist. I believe most of the A covers were by John Tyler Christopher. I would say that they may have wanted a different artist for the second run or Filipe Andrade may have been unavailable since comic creators are typically doing multiple projects to make ends meet. Comics should credit writer, artist, inker, colorist, letterer, and editor(s) at a minimum and while that might be a mouthful to credit verbally, I'd love to see it on screen and when you speak about art or lettering to just say the person's name. Alternatively, a little text box with that info would be great. Thanks again for the video! It's awesome how much the Disney Dan team does :)

I'm surprised Lego hasn't released a Figment minifigure, especially for the 100th anniversary.

Aw this was a great timeline to Figment! I loved the original imagination since I was a kid. I think back in the 90s, I manage to ride it before it was changed to Journey into YOUR Imagination. I loved hearing on details of each part of the timeline. I had no idea that Dreamfinder has his own lagoon show! thats so cool! I'm surprised disney hasn't done a cool dream finder disney plus series, and I think you forgotten that Dreamfinder was about to have a show called The Dreamfinders! it was suppose to air on disney channel when it was starting out!

I was fortunate enough to meet the Dreamfinder and ride Journey Imagination when I was a kid back in the early 90s. It was such a cool experience. All those rides back then were awesome. So much charm. They actually created the experience and made you feel part of it, unlike the soulless, lifeless screens they have replaced everything with now.

It would be great to see Figment back, but I think the real star is The Dream Finder. I think they need to bring him back as well as figment. Why on earth does Disney not listen to the legions of fans who wanted that original Dream Finder ride back? And why take him out and keep him out for so long? Especially if there was a comic series in 2010?

Around 2 weeks ago I was in Disney World and we got evacuated off of Journey into Imagination with Figment, it was kind of cool we got unloaded right at the scene before the upside down house and walked through the rest of the attraction, this was my ninth trip and I had never evacuated before, I didn’t get any pictures because we were racing to get to our behind the seeds tour

During your Figment 2 segment of the video, surprised you didn’t mention the Disney “shared universe” Easter egg where the dean mentions the visiting Dr. Brainard coming to work at the Institute from Medfield College.

If you put Figment and the Dreamfinder and Riley's Emotions from the *Inside Out* together, the feels, the excitement, and most of all, the IMAGINATION would be taken FAR MORE seriously than most people would think. Or put Figment next to Barney and you got a set of wise, caring, purple reptiles from your imagination helping you out. LOTS of ways to imagine anything and somehow it comes from mind AND heart. Thanks for sharing this imaginative story of Figment's popularity with us, Dan.

Dan, I have but one complaint about this video: not enough of your joyous laughter! You’re surprisingly subdued in this video, I’m too used to you busting a gut every minute or so. Video feels naked without it. Otherwise, this video is awesome! Then again, I love Figment so I might be bias. Here’s to 40 years of imagination! Can’t wait for future Figment videos.

I have always loved Figment. I have vague memories of riding the ride over 30 years ago and it has stuck with me since. So much so when i went on my honeymoon I traded for a Figment pin that I loved but sadly somewhere in the shuffle it disappeared. The real question here is when will Dan be adding the mezmonic converter to his Dremfinder costume?

I have only seen the recent ride that came out after Dr. Nigel had took over. I would have LOVED to of gone on the OG ride with Dreamfinder and Figment. My imaginary pal would be a cross between a rooster and a dragon. It could lay eggs but also boil, scramble and fry them before they were shot out of it's butt. The fact I know about Figment is he's voiced by "Dave Goelz" who's the voice and puppeteer of many Muppet characters.

I have the novelist version of the first five issues of figment, and it was amazing. I even loved the first issue of the haunted mansion comics. Now I need to read the rest of the figment novels. Loving all this figment history, and whoever sees this comment if we ever see or whenever we see a Figment movie, I would like if they casted James McAvoy to be the dream finder/Blairian. Awesome job and a Awesome JOURNEY into our favorite Imagination
