The thing I will always love about Disneyland is there clever use of space. Everything is compact and walkable, just look at how they squeezed in Indiana jones and runaway railway.

Only place for a new people mover would be to move guests back-and-forth between the massive, eastern parking garage and the esplanade. There >COULD< be Four ways to get back-and-forth from that parking structure: (a) walk (b) PM (c) Skyway [ Guests would also LOVE to see that come back to Disneyland and WDW already uses a large system to do the same thing ] (d) 'golf cart' vehicle (extra fee)

Do the Imagineers still visit Disneyland on a regular basis? When I interned at Burbank it was too far a commute to Disneyland so I imagine WDI isn’t visiting the parks every week either. I’d love to work at WDI but Glendale is just too far from Anaheim to regularly visit the parks. It feels like there’s a disconnect between Imagineering and park ops with the way rides and systems are designed. All the new rides use a trackless vehicle which is a huge liability with the consistent downtime from guests accidentally dropping their hats or cell phones. Even the way Lightning Lane is enforced feels like nobody understood the purpose of FastPass. Traffic isn’t getting any better so I think the solution to understand the guest experience is to relocate WDI to Anaheim so Imagineers can spend more time as guests.

The rule when I worked at Imagineering was that designers who worked on rides and attractions for the parks had to walk the parks on a regular basis. The drive from Glendale to Anaheim is around an hour so that’s not much of a problem. And there is a small group of WDI folk in Anaheim who send reports up to the main WDI office in Glendale.

Hi Jim ! I am curious on how multidisciplinary are the teams when the resort is in the design. At the top of my mind you mention traffic engineers, civil engineers, electrical engineers, urbanist, landscapers, architects, and more. What disciplines are important that perhaps laypeople don't think about ?

Good question. In order to build anything WDI employs many different people in many different fields. Building anything is a team effort. I found that scheduling and estimating were my friends moving my creative ideas toward reality. I should do an episode dealing with team roles on projects.

I have so many questions, but this is the one that Ive always wanted to ask. Are there restrictions on how deep you can dig down to build attractions? Like If you completely ripped out the subs (I know, sacrilege) and dug it out so you could house something akin to Rise of the Resistance, could you do that? Been wanting to be an Imagineer but fear it's too late for me to do that. So I gotta be a fan and ask questions.

It’s never too late to not be an arm chair Imagineer. In answer to your question the depth you can dig down depends on the land you are planning to dig into. The muddy swamp of Florida or the sandy dirt of Anaheim requires different construction methods. And the weight of the construction affects if you build or not. All most anything can be built however the project cost increases depending on the location. Thanks for your question.

Always enjoy your video's a lot! Good to see more then the usual, high profile stuff. The infrastructure needed in order to make the rides, the lands and the environments. Would be interesting to get a brief: design the 'customer journey' from entry of Disney property to park. And then later to measure the client satisfaction and calibrate if needed.

Last time I was at Disneyland, Aug. 2012, I asked when (and why) the monorail nolonger had a stop at the Disneyland Hotel. I was told that the monorail NEVER went to a stop at the Disneyland Hotel. Could you please tell me if I was imagining stepping onto a platform at second level at the hotel to take the monorail to the park one New Years Eve?

You were not imagining the Monorail stopping at the Monorail Hotel. In fact the purpose for the expansion of the Monorail was to connect the Disneyland Hotel to Disneyland Park. The Monorail travel to the Hotel, stopped and then returned to Tomorrowland.

The best Disneyland Forward plan is to go backwards, bring back the classic rides and $20 entrance fee. The second best plan requires many missiles and ends with total destruction of all Disney theme parks.
