Thanks for the video! I have a 3 and 6 year old and we always spend at least an hour of our day at one of the playgrounds in Disneyland. My kids love Goofy's learn to play yard because of the bright colors and fun slides. I love Redwood Creek better because it's a calm place for me to relax while the kids play, you really can't beat the ambiance there. Both are really great in their own way and the perfect way to break up the day and get out our wiggles before getting in another ride line.

Thank You for this Disney recap Jim! I'm a bit interested with Disney's movie performance next year for Zootopia 2 as its the only one that's caught my attention, for me it feels like the only one that's worthwhile. As for the parks I've lost all hope after Tiana's Bayou Adventure. I'm not too proud of the direction they're going with replacements especially if they aren't necessary especially since they feel like they lack the charm and creativity of past additions

It’s about a half a good ride, no reason it can’t be finished in the future. I predict some improvements in the next decade (like with Little Mermaid in DCA) What lost my faith, really broke me was filling the Rivers of America in with concrete for a Cars attraction and closing Muppetvision instead of expanding ANYTHING and STILL leaving certain areas of the park to rot Universal is murdering them competition-wise without even trying because no executives care anymore, they’re actively trying to crush the spirits of their own creative team and don’t believe in long-term consequences The new Disneyland President coming from Tokyo Disneyland is experienced and brilliant and I hope Test Track/Tropical Americas comes out well, maybe since it’s a D23 off-year they’ll announce some nice refurbs etc., otherwise everything feels like a dark age

Love your videos as always, Jim! What about Fantasy Springs at Tokyo DisneySea? Although that's not exactly owned by Disney but has the Disney license. Disney has also been surveying guests about bringing The Simpsons to the parks. That might not happen until after 2028 if anything though. What are your thoughts on The Simpsons possibly coming to Disney Parks?
@jimhshull
@jimhshull Күн бұрын
My sense regarding Fantasy Springs at Tokyo DisneySea is that it failed to preform as expected. While the four rides are good and the environment is immersive building this as the Fantasyland of Tokyo DisneySea didn’t move the needle for the park. The focus on the new hotel, the location and the theme combined for the result. One thing that did come out of FS is the ride vehicle system that will be used for the new Avengers Campus ride that will break ground at DCA in 2025.
@maxickingdom
@maxickingdom Күн бұрын
That’s really interesting to note. True that Fantasy Springs didn’t look nearly as crowded- but I know that like the Galaxy’s Edge opening, Disney/ OLC was afraid of overcrowding so they tried to limit crowds as much as they could. I wonder if that also led to the underperformance of Fantasy Springs. I can’t wait to see the Peter Pan style ride system used for the Avengers E-Ticket! I’m not the biggest fan of screen rides, but I love how the Peter Pan ride really blends in practical effects and screens quite well, making it more immersive.

I do wish there were more opportunities for active play in Disneyland. A park full of rides is a park full of lines and that's kind of awful. More walk-throughs would be great. More spots for little kids who aren't big enough for the rides would be great. Very interesting video, thanks Jim!

I'm surprised they haven't put in a playground at Rafiki's Planet Watch - right next to the Affection Section. They could make it dinosaur themed and relocate all of the statues from DinoLand. They need to repurpose them somewhere - especially Sue.
@jimhshull
@jimhshull Күн бұрын
I’ve heard there will be a more passive much smaller exploration play area in Topical America. The problem with building a playground by Planet Watch is that the only way to reach it is riding the train. If an expansion of Asia (such as adding India) were built then a short walkway could connect Planet Watch to the rest of Animal Kingdom. Zootopia would be a natural fit however the choice to replace the Tree of Life film based show with a Zootopia one takes that intellectual property off the table. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year.

The single problem is that the ride needs to be a one passenger vehicle. More than one and the ride doesn’t work as intended. Thanks for watching.

How deep a hole did you have to dig to build Luigi’s? Would have loved to at least try it. I still think it would be a great way to bring back the peoplemover if they could figure out how to make it work. If it’s unwieldy for above ground, do something with it in Autopia. It could be a sort-of river raft ride in that the car bounces off the side of the track and spins sometimes, but ultimately follows the track. They could somehow tie the IP to Wall•E when they return to earth. The people aren’t physically ready for full-time natural gravity yet, but need to get around to re-build, this would show the different areas that need attention to ensure survival.

Carsland is our absolute favorite part of DCA. My 3 year old's favorite ride at DCA is Mater's Junkyard Jamboree. He loves the little tractor outside the ride almost as much as the ride itself. I love all the details of the land and how much thought was put into the holiday overlays. I really wish they would do holiday overlays like that for other lands too. I personally think Carsland is more immersive than Galaxy's Edge or Avengers Campus.

Thanks for the video, Jim. Did you and the other Imagineers consider using the dual loading system used on the flying saucers ride (with the moving boom)? I assume that would have required some more "real estate," but it would have dramatically increased capacity, and so I'm wondering why it wasn't used (it seems like such a good idea). While I really liked the Flying Tires, my other small complaint is that the large size of the tires made it tricky getting in and out, and also harder to move them. Why did the size get so large for the tires? Was a smaller ride vehicle considered? I might be an outlier, but I preferred the Flying Tires to the current Luigi's, which is fun to watch, but for me, at least, a bit less fun to ride. I still think the Flying Saucers should be attempted again. While I like Luigi's, and love Pooh, there is something terrific about a truly interactive ride like the Flying Saucers or Flying Tires. George C. Tilyou, the entrepreneur behind Steeplechase Park in Coney Island, and Frederic Thompson and Elmer "Skip" Dundy, the men behind Coney Island's Luna Park, and Walt Disney, the genius behind Disneyland, all knew that truly interactive rides and attractions that could be enjoyed by being viewed as well as ridden were so important. And it seems to me that the Flying Saucers could be that for Disney parks again. First off, Americans are more and more interested in UFOs and convinced that aliens are visiting us. And second, Americans love bumper cars, love rides where they can interact with strangers, and rides where they can watch and photograph their children, grandchildren, friends, or other loved ones having fun. So, I hope Disney hasn't learned the wrong message and given up on the Flying Saucers concept. Plus, even if everything has to have an IP connection, there are those Toy Story aliens, there's Stitch, and it looks like Elio, if it is a success, would work as an IP, too. So, Disney, please rethink and bring back the Flying Saucer ride somewhere! Please!
@jimhshull
@jimhshull 11 күн бұрын
The tires would have worked if they were limited to one person per vehicle. Then each tire would have had a smaller diameter thus would move faster and be more fun. That would have resulted in a moving boom arm but when the Tires were designed the culture had changed from the 1960s. Then people wanted to ride alone and when tires were designed the two passenger vehicle was due to guest demand to be paired with another family member.

Hi Jim, I am greatly enjoying your videos. I'm a '55 baby from a multi-generational DLand fan family, with two CM daughters. I just realized that you may be able to help me solve a mystery. In Pirates, the singing trio features a lute player. The fret wires on the neck are accurately spaced, so it seems to be an actual instrument, likely purchased rather than built. I've been obsessed with finding out what it is, but gave up and finally built a few of them myself scaled down a bit. Are there any bread crumbs that might lead to finding out where that was obtained and what it might be. There might even be a label visible thru an "F hole" or. stamp on the back. Other parks use off-the-shelf bouzoukis but the original is a flat back lute. Any ideas would be most appreciated. ~ Thanks, Douglas
