after going to disneyland like 5 times i finally went on the matterhorn. i used to think it would be scary (track layout wise) omg i cant believe i was afraid of that ride, embarrassing to think about it now. same thing with magic mountain, i always heard it was fun. now its my favorite ride of all time even compared to mega steel track coasters ive been on. its definitely a treat to experience.

The ride is slower than a typical roller coaster. There has been a death on the ride, and it was from someone falling out where there is a large dip (henceforth called Dolly's Dip), but nobody has been decapitated.

Not a thrilling ride, but it's still fun. I recommend it for ages 7+, not because of speed or drops or anything but the yeti might scare kids a bit. The speed of the ride is pretty slow.

I went on this ride at the age of 4 and I was amazed by it. I remembered that the yeti appeared about 150 feet to the left and only once. I went on it for the second time when I was 10 and it scared the shit out of me. The eyes, the yeti being so close and appearing twice were not how I had remembered it from when I was 4.

I haven't been on the Matterhorn with the new effects, only seen it in videos, but I was very disappointed in seeing many of the new effects. I think I like the idea of the crashed bobsleds, but I loved the crystals. (I donno, maybe they could have shown the bobsleds crashed up on the crystals or something, like saying the expedition found some kind of forbidden treasure?) And the Yeti's new scream, so watered down and generic, nothing like the thrilling iconic scream of the original that made the ride so memorable.

The darkness is what makes it feel faster. Kinda like space mountain. Did you know space mountain really isn't going that fast? But it feels like your FLYING through that ride at like at least 50mph. The complete darkness & fans blowing at you is what tricks your mind into feeling like your moving much faster then you are.

Also the fact that Expedition Everest is themed like the place where the Yeti is said to actually reside; Mount Everest, Tibet. The Matterhorn is in Switzerland and doesn't actually have anything to do with the Yeti, Walt just wanted a ride themed like the Swiss Alps after he went there on vacation.

Considering that Matterhorn Bobsleds opened in 1959, was the first tubular steel roller coaster in the world, and is in a family theme park, I think it's doing pretty good in terms of speed. Go ride Expedition Everest if you want a similar but faster experience.

Expedition Everest is pretty much new and improved version of this ride. Expedition Everest has more of a storyline if you know what I mean (lost on Mount Everest with a Yeti on the loose). Both great rides but I would have to say Expedition Everest is more fun.

This ride was built in 1959 and was the first steel roller coaster. Of course a ride built in 2006 would be "way better" to many people. I enjoy both so I wouldnt say either is better just because you can't really compare them besides being a mountain coaster.

@BerryBomber2 No. Just based off of Matterhorn Mountain. The ride was conceived by Walt Disney after various trips to the Swiss Alps where he was amazed by Matterhorn Mountain. He hoped to somehow create an attraction that was based off of this. That's partly how the Matterhorn ride came to be.
