I would legitimately love a warehouse coaster, one with no theming, and no unintentional stuff. No paint, ,no hiding supports, showing the switch track, maybe throw in a couple of boxes and fake wielding materials. No joke, that would actually be pretty cool.

I love being able to see the structure; it lets you appreciate the engineering work that went into it. And the fact that a relatively simple, slow coaster can still scare the heck out of people is a testament to what a brilliant idea a coaster in the dark is

Having ridden it with the lights on and off.... it's scarier with the lights ON. So many spots where the structure is just above head level. LOL

I love how Dark Rides are often essentially just very simple rollercoasters but with the lights off. The atmosphere, sounds and lighting literally sell the entire thing, to the extent that, when I see a mediocre outdoor rollercoaster, I generally think 'You should've just built it inside and turned the lights off and it would've been 10 times better'.

as a disney employee, 1:23 is where the lowest structure is to the ride vehicle, it's lower than the red strobe tunnel at the end, and what makes it scary is that people can touch the red strobe tunnel so that means they can easily touch the lowest structure.

I’ve had the pleasure of actually being on that ride WHILE it broke down. 😂😂 I was on the Omega side (the side rode in this video) and we actually broke down RIGHT before the first hill at 0:53. We were stuck there for about 10-15 minutes and when the lights came on it was amazing. We got to see so many carts on the Alpha side go past and we just kept waving at them. It was hilarious. We also loved waving at the People Mover whenever they’d pass. I’d like to think we created a core memory for so many people that day. 😂

It amazes me how simple and non intense this layout really is yet with all effects running it become an extremely fun and thrilling experience. I remember riding this coaster back in 1988 and it was completly dark in the ride, the only lights were strips along the track and I think that made the ride even more fun because you couldn't see what was coming up and it would suprise you no matter how many times you rode it. In my opinion, Space Mountain is meant to be experienced with all of its effects, in near-total darkness. The main thing Space Mountain banks on is the unknown. Unless you’ve memorized every part of the track, you’ll never know what’s coming up ahead and that is what gives Space Mountain some, if not most of its intensity.

(I think SM top speed is 27.5mph whilst the cars ride is 40mph & test track can reach 64.7mph!) What makes SM scary is how dark it is, causing unpredictability, how loud it is, how sharp the turns are, how bumpy of a ride it is & the seats! 🙂

reminds me of once the ride had to be shut down while i was about halfway through it so all the lights came on and we were escorted out, and realizing just how relatively small the space was (compared to how far it feels like we're going i mean) and seeing all the tracks layered around each other and being reminded that we were just in a large cement room the whole time was really strange. Space Mountain in the dark working as intended is fantastic at atmosphere. Space Mountain with the lights on looks like some dinky ass ride in an abandoned mall.

@@dme1016 , that's what separates Disney from other theme parks and roller coasters.
