First off, I think you emphasized an excellent point that we don’t talk about enough: new tools are about adding to our creative options, never replacing. Just because a technique is “old” doesn’t make it any less useful or pretty. As far as titles go, I’ll read them, but it’s not what draws me to new videos. However, I have been known to search for things like “cardmaking with busy patterned paper,” and then the title might lead me to pick a certain video, because I’m looking for design principles more than how to get a certain card’s look. I will say that the thing that drives me crazy are clickbait-y titles with no content. I get that The Algorithm likes them, but particularly if there’s not a finished thumbnail to give me any clue what we’re aiming for, I will never choose that video out of a lineup/search result. That sort of thing also makes it really difficult to find the video again. I don’t remember every bit of videos I watch, so when I want to go refresh myself on said technique, it is so frustrating to not have enough context clues to be able to find the video again.

Kelly, if the video is from someone I follow and watch regularly, like you, I don’t read the title. If it’s from someone new or someone I only watch occasionally, I do read the title. So I do think they are important for attracting new and occasional viewers. I don’t know what the robot overloads (as Amy R calls them) choose for the algorithms, but maybe include the name of the stamp set specifically for those searching for inspiration on it? Maybe also tag this video with “decoupage”, as that is what they call this technique in the rest of the world, which is different from the US decoupage. So confusing.

Exactly! I don’t watch videos that have vague titles, such as, “never have I ever…” Or something like “try this new technique and your friends will be amazed!” . No, I want to know what you are doing. Is it BetterPress or foiled, or dry embossed? Since I have so many tools I’m always looking for videos to try new methods of using them. Vague titles, which I called Clickbait, will never get me watching them. I do look at the thumbnail pictures too! If it looks complicated, I pass and come back to it later.

Beautiful! It was a bit of work, but worth the results! As for video titles, I read them, because I want to know what they are about. I generally skip videos about foiling & scrapbooking, because those aren’t my thing. I watch SO many other videos. 😂❤️

I definitely look at the title. This helps me decide whether or not to save it to watch for later or to watch it right now based off of the technique I either want to learn or want to refresh myself on. Also if it's an artist I know I like no matter what I'll just watch it anyways! 😊 it also helps me know which folder I'm going to save that video into

Use to do this as a teen, nearly fifty years ago. We would buy 3 identical greeting cards from the store and cut them all up and layer them, also putting black around the edges. Then often we would mount them to a finished plaque or piece of wood and paint them completely with clear nail polish. What do I look at on youtube videos?.... usually whose video it is, but then I do glance at the title and picture. I always watch yours, regardless of title/picture and I like them long! Keeps me from having to search out another to watch to occupy my time when I have it.

I absolutely love this technique Kelly! While I am not keen on fussy cutting and have a fair number of layering dies or sets, sometime you want to use one that is older and may not have dies with it. This is a tremendous way to add that something extra or special and maybe utilize an older stamp set. I already have ideas so thank you! As far as titles, like many I'll watch your videos no matter what, but I think they do help me with videos by other creators when deciding if the topic is of interest. So I appreciate your efforts with the titles and I certainly hope it aids in the YT algorithms plus attracts th9se new or occasional viewers!

I love these cards. I have does this type of cards for special people. For the titles, if I am looking for a specific technique, then the key words are necessary for the search. But for people I am subscribed (you for example) I am looking at the thumbnail and watching because it is you not the title. The title is really only important for non searching purposes.

I used to do this when I was younger. My mother had some "extra" cards that were Hallmarl or whatever, and I would take two of them and cut up one of the cards into pieces of the trees or presents or whatever (they were usually usually Christmas cards!). Then I would paste them back in layers just like you did here. Now I will try that again with my stamps --- I love the look and I love your examples!! Thank you!!

I, like the majority of those that commented, have creators that I watch every video put out-- regardless of the title. But for others the title is important. I rarely click on a video that is just showing a face. For one's I watch occasionally, I need a good finished item thumbnail and a decently named video. I do search for new videos by a stamp set or technique hashtag. Any way, love these cards and the technique. Layering items like this was my "gateway drug" into card making! I'd gather multiple of the same magazine or the like and biopic up a scene. Tfs!

I do go by titles to see if it’s something I would be interested in that might show me something new that I’m not familiar with. With that being said, if it’s someone like you, who I LOVE 💕 to watch than I know there’s going to be something interesting in the video. But to answer the question, “yes”, I do go by titles! I want you to know, I am 7 minutes in your video and I love 💗 how you stamped an image, then do 3 shades of blending over the stamped image. I would never have thought to do that! Your title drawer me to watch the video now rather than later!! OMG 😱!!! I just finished the whole episode and you took it to another whole new level. ❤I am so in love with your cards. I am a snail (or turtle 🐢 if you will) and it would take me days, however , I would do this for “Special“ people in my life!!

Great cards, Kelly! Lots of patience.... I don't do layering very often, but I do still love the look & the textures! As to your question..... I see a photo first, of course, but I always look at the title, too. It helps if I'm looking for something in particular, but I just have always read the titles, anyway. Sometimes on first glance, the titles can make a difference of watching a video immediately, or maybe later. And of course, that just depends on the time-frame I have for that particular project. But I have also found that frequently, some titles intrigue me enough to look further, anyway! 😊 I always 'save' the ones I especially like, which makes it easer to find & watch something over again.

Thank you for including everything. We can always skip ahead if we need to, but we can't go back and watch parts you left out if you leave things out! As far as titles go -- sometimes I notice them, sometimes I don't. It depends on whether I'm finding them through the home feed, recommendations, etc. BUT...having a relevant name can be super-super-helpful once the video isn't really new anymore. I have another crafter I follow who makes amazing videos, but then I can never find them again when I want to go back and look for one I've watched before, because the titles never seem to be anything that (at least to my mind) logically connects to the thing she made. So it's nice when the title is at least relevant and unique enough to be able to mentally connect it to its contents.

My goodness Kelly just over 30 minutes is not a very long video. I watch card makers whose videos go for an hour, but I think 30 minutes is average for most I watch. No apology necessary!

I mostly don't notice titles of youtubers I follow, but I think titles could help bring you new subscribers. I love this technique. More ways to use existing supplies is always a good thing, even reminders of older techniques that you may have forgotten about. All good things🎉🎉🎉😊

Hey Kelly, Maybe i am using the term wrongly but when i use this technique, I call it decoupage! It is a very fun way to make cards & use your stash.

These cards are so beautiful! I have used this technique in a very limited way, but you showed many more applications and for sure I want to use it again!! Re titles - if it’s your card I don’t look at title or picture, I just settle in and start the video. Of course!!❤

I do read the tittles for the video, gives me an idea what the technique is…….especially when I don’t follow the person. I typically always watch your video’s because I love copic coloring! Love how you demonstrate, leaving in your mistakes (which you always resolve - LOVE THAT!), and you have a great way of explaining and just talking through what your doing. Soooo helpful! Also love all the new stencil/stamp sets - makes coloring so fast and easy (not as rewarding as copic though) but still amazing! Thanks for the discount code too!!!! Love the cards and the reminder to go back to the oldies and goodies!! So many great techniques!! Thanks so much

If I look at the title…it’s mostly to see what story time is about…lol🙄. I’ve said it before, I recognize your work before I see your name. I love that technique! I used a lotus stamp set of Gina’s to cut apart and get a layered card. I think it just adds so much to an image. A lot of times I’ll look at a stamp set I’m thinking to get to evaluate for cutting and layering. Since I’m currently ignorant when it comes to my cricuit…I keep it so I can eventually use it to do the cuts with. Mostly, I just need to sit down and figure it out instead of looking at the machine and shaking my head at it…

Kelly, these are awesome cards. I have been card making for over 30 years and have never seen this technique. I do believe there's a lot of detail involved and I'm not sure I would do this a lot but it certainly steps up a single stamped image that I will be trying in the future. I do read the titles it helps me to recall a specific video so it is very helpful have a beautiful day.

I first look at the picture of the finished project than the title. I do think the title is important as it gives the viewer a better idea of what will be highlighted in the video. Although, for your videos, I pretty much all of them regardless of either. Love this idea, but it is a lot of work, not sure I’d color so much of the parts that will be covered up. I will try this though. Thanks always for your inspiration. Might be using that coupon also. Thanks!

Lovely cards. I have used this technique before and it’s very useful. Sometimes it’s about appearance and, at others, it’s a way of helping fussy cut. Like Rabbit Hole Designs has this cute cranky spider with coffee. It’s a NIGHTMARE to fussy cut. After I struggled with it the last couple of times, I realised my solution (for next time) is to fussy cut the legs separate from the body, which also enables me to pop the body up, making it look like a style choice and not an “OMG I CAN’T FUSSY CUT THIS SO I’LL DO IT THIS WAY”. And the reason that’s important is because I like making a certain style of background: white or silver pearl heat emboss a spiderweb, sprinkle Nuvo shimmer power in a few different colours over the background, spray with water to get gradients and colour blends, then add the spider once it’s dry. Feel free to try it. AmyR did a series a while ago where she heat embossed various images to create the ridges then used the shimmer powders that way. I love the technique and I’ve experimented with the colour blends I use. The trick is to make sure the background has lots of lines, isn’t TOO fine and isn’t too big a gap either. Honeybee’s envelope background is great; a Tim Holtz spider web is fab and can either be a pretty rainbow, shades of shimmery grey or shades of black through purple and green (think salvage patina green) because of the different flecks of colours in the different powers and my colour choices. Re the title: I often don’t notice the title. However, I’m not good with naming my podcast episodes either, and I just follow certain people. Other times I’ll look at the image and decide if I’ll watch it. If the image is a person’s face and not their finished card, 99% guarantee I won’t watch it because I have to wait until the ads are finished to open the video then - quite often - I have to scroll through the video, often past more ads that I have to sit through at least partially, to get to the end to see if I am interested in the card design. Hell no, life’s too short.
