They filmed Disposable Heroes live from the Metal Hammer Fest in 1985 and it's online. They played a new song called Disposable Heroes from the upcoming album Master of Puppets, Imagine being lucky enough to have been there for that.

As a 16 yr old when this came out I think I knew what a masterpiece this was. I love watching people discover them

I was 11 in ‘87 when I first heard this. I was having trouble trying to figure how is something so great possible to play and play live? I soon found out when I convinced my older brother to take me to see them live in ‘88. Let’s just say that concert tshirt started looking very vintage pretty fast with how many times I wore it and washed it🤘🏼

I was 10 when I discovered Metallica, and this album was 3 years old. First song I heard was Leper Messiah, and then I found Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Sepultura, Pantera, Metal Church, Cannibal Corpse, Gwar, and on and on.

2 of my favorite tracks off this masterpiece album! I can’t wait for you hear ‘Orion’ she will melt in her chair when she hears the 2nd movement, the drop to half time and the eargasmic bass lines ❤ great reaction… but I am a little disappointed, there was no live version with this, she even mentioned she wanted to see them perform it live…

There are no bad songs on this album. Half these songs are among my top 10 Metallica songs… and a few more are from Ride the Lightning. Metallica’s writing and execution were just prolific at this point in time.

All of Metallica's older records (at least) had a central theme; Master of Puppets was all about various types of manipulation...whether it was religion, the government, or drug addiction. Look at the cover for a minute, and you'll see imagery for everything that I just mentioned. Yes, Lars has two bass drums. He played a big kit back in those days. His kit is a bit smaller at this point, and it has been for a long time. His rack toms were the size of floor toms at one point. You could watch live versions of these songs from their Seattle concert in 1989, later, if you want to see them. I know you've done a little of that. I recommend "'Creeping Death": from Moscow 1991. I don't remember if you've done that already.

Loved Leper Messiah - and I understand the hypocrisy they were on about - The Jimmy Swaggerts and Jim & Tammy Faye Bakker (wonder what happened to them 😆). I was 23 when this timeless album was released and it still gets played at least once a week in our house - LOUD. Looking forward to the next one. If they don't play 'Orion' at my funeral, which will be sooner rather than late, I ain't turning up!!!

This is one of those formative albums the instructed so many of us at the time about what the new discipline of metal guitar playing was going to be all about. Between this and slayer's Reign in Blood album it was a master class in how to utilize palm muting and super aggressive tremolo picking and all other manner of remarkable rhythmic implementation that just was not super present in metal up to this point. AAAAND... lover Messiah still sounds like something written by Dave mustaine. It's one of the few things that isn't in the key of E on this album, and it's just got his handy work written all over it despite whatever they may claim in the credits

I must say, I was very disappointed that Metallica didn’t play this song last year at SoFi Stadium in LA, for both days. They played 2 different setlists, and they left this epic song off. Naturally they can’t play all their best songs, but this should never be left off.

For true angry Metallica, you will need to check out ...And Justice For All... the album made after the death of Cliff. My favorite review was simply two words: "Unrelentingly Dour" Master is their best album, but Justice is my favorite.

That way , Master of Puppets is not also Anti-drugs. But if the message on the lyrics makes war or drugs look bad, then I think we can call them Anti war/drugs songs.

It is a war song, which portrays the treatment of soldiers in a negative light. That also makes it an anti-war song by definition.
