Disrespecting Oyo Monarchs | Obasanjo Stands By His Action

For an average Yoruba man, Respect for elders or positions of leadership had always been held very highly.
One recent case is that of Former President Olusegun Obasanjo who condemned the Oyo Monarchs for failing to rise to greet the state governor, Seyi Makinde.
This was during the inauguration of two projects in Iseyin, Oyo State where he commanded the traditional rulers at the event to stand up and sit down as a sign of respect to the governor.
The Yoruba Council Worldwide in a released statement signed by Aare Oba Oladotun Hassan has now declared they won’t recognize Former president Obasanjo as a holder of any traditional title in Yorubaland anymore.
However, Obasanjo says and I quote "In Yoruba land, we respect two things: age and position. The governor’s position is superior to that of any king in as much as he is a governor" end Quote.
