15:37 - I've always wondered where each line is going looking at this junction and ignoring where the 397 is going... It's going to be WCML S&C and where else??
@LeslieGilpinRailways11 ай бұрын
From the left, Newcastle / S&C (split at Petteril Bridge), ahead WCML, right the line to Maryport, Workington and the Cumbrian Coast to Barrow in Furness

Wow... quite a storm to create delays. Looks like a lot more freight was delayed than the passengers. Still, some grand shots. I remember outracing a nasty thunderstorm on an ICE3 in 2019. Trains after us did get delayed.
@LeslieGilpinRailways11 ай бұрын
The freights got stuck when the lines became blocked. But the passenger trains were planned not to run in most cases. Made a change for TransPennine to be the hero between Preston and Carlisle!

Hi Les, I am a subscriber, as I like your well made videos, the variety in Carlisle and especially the freight workings. Am I right to assume the log train took to the Carlisle Settle line so as not to impact on the WCML workings ?
@LeslieGilpinRailways11 ай бұрын
You are correct, If it does run WCML it often spends a lot of time in loops . Thanks for your kind words and glad you enjoy the videos

Amazing video, the storms seem to have got platform 1 closed, did you manage to catch anything of 37409 this week? Also the flasks which were stuck at wigton due to a fallen tree finally made it this morning instead! Again amazing vid
@LeslieGilpinRailways11 ай бұрын
I managed to miss 409 completely - partly due to the weather and then on the Wednesday morning it departed half hour early while I was driving into Carlisle! Still you caught 409 ok. The big highlight for me though was the train of low level containers.

You have really caught the unusual this time. Newcastle trains running from where the Barrow usually do, the TP going down the neck and waiting in all the different places, 88 running diesel. All I didn't see was the progress on the pools demolition and any progress in restoring the station's main entrance... Great spotting. Monday looked really close to the railway flooding again with the state of the River Caldew. Let's hope for fewer jostling storms.
@LeslieGilpinRailways11 ай бұрын
I agree we need some settled weather! You could just hear the noise of metal being cut at the pools but to be honest I didn't film back there. Maybe next time. There's been no progress on the station front nor on the damaged or replacement entrance (which I believe is delayed again). The Newcastles using Platform 2 usually happens once or twice a week to transfer a coast line unit back to Heaton depot or vice versa. Coast line trains can't run into Platforms 4-6..

It's been a while since I commented on one of your vids, sorry. Anyway, great video filmed in difficult conditions in a great location. If I could I would relocate to Carlisle in a heartbeat. However I cant so that was a pointless statement lol. I'm sure you know what I mean though. Watching your vids is the next best thing to being there. Greetings from the south coast, regards, John.

So the 88 puts out 17.5 percent of its AC power, how does it get the intermodal moving!!
@LeslieGilpinRailways11 ай бұрын
I was hoping someone might know. Remember a 350hp Class 08 shunter has the same start up power as a large steam loco - I suppose the computer on board can make it happen - however I have no idea when the pantograph was dropped so no idea if it ran at speed on diesel.
@iannorman24911 ай бұрын
On Wikipedia they specify 940hp for the diesel engine, so on that basis I suppose it should be able to shift it, although like you say at what speed?? Keep up the good work Les!!
@iannorman24910 ай бұрын
According to Railway Herald they are having problems with spares for the 88's. Two of the fleet not being in service for 18 months!

Wonder in the current climate if the flasks have gone bk to carrying armed protection hence the carriages. Nice selction anyway.
@LeslieGilpinRailways11 ай бұрын
I think its a more subtle reason. Naval flasks for or from the submarines are accompanied by guards. Otherwise the flasks to / from power stations and from overseas are unaccompanied.

I like your video’s Leslie. But I don’t think I’ve seen one yet where the trains are running normally…. It seems that every time your videos come out , the “JOB “ is up the creek. Passengers up there, must be at their wits end, with it. 😴😴😴😴👍
@LeslieGilpinRailways11 ай бұрын
I do produce the 'usual day when nothing goes wrong' but on the passenger side it does become rather repetitive! If for instance the Log train is held in the station anything up to half a dozen passenger trains will depart on schedule in the space of 30 minutes!
