And no one can express their feeling in a poem as word to word without using metaphor.... Hanuman chalisa was composed in kaliyug... It is not supposed to be written there..... Second thing.... In making a poem we have to take thing Lightly... By using the reader's sense of humour... Its understood that writing it like yug sahastra yojan par bhanu is more easier and correct way of writing a poem than writing "the numbers of years in kaliyug times sahastra yojan par bhanu"... In this verse, the author pays respects to the one (the reference is to the sun light) who moves 2202 yojans in half nimish. Yojan is a quite common unit in India, it means 4 kose, each kose measuring 8000 British yards and each yard measuring 0.9144 m. The definition of the time unit nimish can be found in Shrimadbhagwat 11-3 to 10) where it is mentioned that 15 nimishas make 1 kashta, 15 kashtas make one laghu, 30 laghus make 1 muhurta and 30 muhurtas make 1 diva-ratri. A diva-ratri is, of course, a day-night which is 24 hours in modern language. When you convert 2202 yojans per half nimish into SI units, it turns out to be 3.0 x 10 8 m/s up to two significant digits, a value quite accurate as we know it today..

I am not mathematically adept but someone I know who is learned in mathematics, Sanskrit and astronomy mentioned that Surya Siddhanta is a great work to understand ancient Indian knowledge pertaining to astronomy. My approach to understanding such phrases are rather simple. In any case he is trying to explain that the sun is very far away and Hanuman went towards it thinking it was a fruit. He is trying to tell us how innocent Hanuman was as a child and his will power immense. And if someone thinks it is a calculation of distance, well he is free to think, as such coincidence only makes Hanuman chalisa special for us Indians.

This was the first I learnt of this claim. I was told by my teacher that Sri Tulsidas didn't write the Hanuman Chalisa in Sanskrit, but in a related language called Awadhi. It is frankly depressing and thus I did not want to answer them (create a short video, etc.) when I am irritated. Hi, first of all kudos to you! You are doing an incredible work! I watch your videos sometimes several times and enjoy them and learn a lot from them. Your study and research is profound! So thank you! Now here is the food for thought from a relatively less learned person, me: My conclusion to you is that maybe this shloka tried to encode the distance (as well) but here is why I am saying that. When I learned Sanskrit from 8th standard to 12th our very erudite professor introduced us to several shlokas which had double meanings. He specifically wanted to show us how beautiful Sanskrit language is that it can express multiple meanings with same arrangement of words in the most concise form. Maybe this is one of such shlokas? Also something that you mentioned that yuga is the time unit and not a distance unit but could it be a case similar to the unit "lightyear". How light year is a distance unit but on the face of it, it appears to be a time (Year) unit? And the third reason I am thinking is, then why this calculation is remarkably in line with reality? Isn't there any credit/ value in it? Is it a sheer coincidence? There is a mistake... Yuga means a complete yuga cycle which includes all the four yugas... The total period of all four yugas is 1728000+1296000+864000+432000 which is 4320000. So there can be a chance of validity for its calculation... In many ancient books such words are used for representing numbers... For eg indriya to represent 5... Sahasra has a meaning of 1000. So it can be 1000 itself I just want to say that we cannot completely ignore the calculation by just adopting meanings for words...

I remember watching the KZbin upload on this from about 4-5 years or so back? My comment on it in the comments section was that Hanuman Chalisa is a Poetic Devotional text and that no one to my knowledge has ever used it for gleaning knowledge of science or maths. If you wished for that you needed to go to texts such as surya siddhanta etc which were made for that purpose. Suffice to say it was a Hindu Bashing upload.

The word YUGA in terms of time means 4,32,000 human years because every other yuga duration is a multiple of this. It's quite common in Sanskrit to use a word that is in a short form to denote a specific term. Apart from this other parts of the analysis you did is correct. Although call it a coincidence or not but the numerical translation is also logical as it does arrive at a very close value of the distance between the sun and earth.

In astronomical measurement, we use units of distance and time combined to measure the distance to a planetary body or deep space body. For example, the distance of the Andromeda Galaxy from Earth is 2.537 million light years, and the distance to the Sun is 0.00001581 light years. As you can see here year which is a unit of time is being used to measure the distance. So that's why you are wrong to say that unit of time cannot be used to measure distance as you have mentioned at 3 min 38 sec of your video. 👍

Not trying to disapprove of what you said. But the same logic that you applied to prove your point can be used to prove that this shloka indeed talks about the distance to sun. The logic being the right interpretation of words mentioned in the shloka. You did mention that yug can be interpreted as 12k years, Sahastra as 1k and yojan as 12 something. When this hoax was circulated in WhatsApp, I got it from a classmate who has a Master's degree in physics. At the very first glance, I identified the hoax, as Yuga (unit of time) is being multiplied by Yojana (unit of distance) to get distance again! I was reading the Valmiki Ramayan. Raja Dasrath describes his age as "षष्टि वर्ष सहस्र "(Shasti varsha sahasra) . So what will be its actual meaning as per the context? It cannot be 60,000 as one's age cannot be such.

And vedas are considered the highest regard of authority, Manu says , "Vedakhilo Dharma Moolam"(Vedas are the root of dharma) so anything against it cannot be true. RigVeda 6/48/8: "Hey Agni, May I live hundred springs..." Rigveda3/36/10: "Hey Indra, you are omniscient, give us hundred years". So this shows humans wanted to live for hundred years, not lakshs or thousands. In the Patanjali's Yog darshan it is prescribed that through Asthtang Yog we can reach max. 400 yrs. So 10^4 yrs or 10^3... are illogical to say. This gives opportunity to adharmics to make fun of your culture.
