My biggest disconnect and immersion breaker in these 4X games is the economy. Who is the issuing authority of Credits? We basically play like a country under the EMU that gave up monetary sovereignty (ie Greece) under a fixed exchange regime, except the game doesn't model the EMU in the game. Matrix does so well in attention to detail in their games, it feels like a missed opportunity. Would be awesome to have sovereign FIAT currencies for the major factions, and maybe have fixed exchange regimes reliant on taxes for revenue for minor factions- sort of like developing countries in the real world. Still bought the game anyway, but there's my soapbox.

It's a bit of a weird soapbox to be on imo. While it sounds cool on paper having a basic FIAT stock exchange represented in game just sounds like a lot of extra work for not much payoff. What would affect a nations FIAT currency? What would the exchange rates be? How would you know what a nations FIAT currency is worth when you first meet them? The simple form of galactic credits is used mainly because it's easy to balance and utilise across a 4X game, it also makes it easier for people to understand without having to be well versed in stock markets and exchange rates too.

@@VenomGamingCenter exchange rates and currency value (and inflation) would be expressed and determined by availability of resources and productive capacity for a faction. Taxes could then properly be modelled to its intended use of controlling inflation. If you are going to simplify it and force everything into a fixed exchange regime, then I feel like the central authority should still be modelled and offers an opportunity for politics/diplomacy.

@@screamingpalm We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. As credits have always been a universal currency system in more games than I care to name. With the determining authority being the galaxy itself at large. Modelling extra rates, inflation and superfluous extra currencies just sounds like added complexity for complexities sake. Not everyone is a FXtrader or stock broker :P

@@VenomGamingCenter that's a shame, I can see so many awesome possibilities that would stem from modelling proper macroeconomics.

What makes this better than DWU? Is it just the graphics? Great tutorial as usual.
