Distant Worlds 2 is a very deep and rich space simulation game. It is a space opera with incredible replay value. In this series I hope to peel back the layers in the game and provide a reference for many of the various game mechanics. Above all, I hope this series will provide a way for players to feel comfortable playing this incredible game.

I loved ion weapons in the past. But since Aurora the AI seems to build for more ion defense. It doesn't seem to work as well anymore. Not even with EM Lance.

I think in midgame, ion defense systems are required on everything, especially if you wanna colonize the species homeworlds. Ion weapons also work best as a support weapons. if the enemy doesn't have any ion defense, it can easily disable important systems on enemy ships, giving an edge in a battle stronger than just more damage

I am just playing a game with this race and frigates/Ion weapons but looking at the + (armour)/- (shield) adjustments for damage bypass I assume I had to combine Ion bomb with max simple DPS pulse weapons to help keep shields down whilst Ion bombing. Is that right? Sorry still not at war atm. Then there is the issue of the races frigates having a hanger and only one sensor slot, which gives a different alternative so Ion bombs go on the escorts but as to whether they destroy my own fighter shuttles in friendly fire I guess I will find out next week.

For an Austrialien attacking mining stations all the time has to be a political statement! :-)

- You didn't show it, but the Heavy Ion Bomb will disable multiple small ships at once when you get into fleet vs. fleet battles. Particularly when you've got multiple ships firing Heavy Ion Bombs. Best when combined with other ships that have regular weapons, if you're not capturing. - You mentioned using Ion Defenses to allow ships to go into an ion nebula. You can also create a special station with two Ion Defenses so you can set up a research station. Just be sure it's on manual retrofit only. :)

That station tip is pretty nice. Whish you could use stations in general more freely if slots allow it - like mining research stations. Probably only worth it for early game anyway though.

Throughout this series you keep saying you will be discussing ship design and other concepts in future videos. WHAT HAPPENED???????? The playlist for this series says "last updated on Sep 18, 2023". None of these videos are even close to that. Just a big lie to get players to watch your videos??????????????????????????????
