Your suggestion to let the AI do the base building and the player builds all state ships made me start a new game to see what it's like. And it's a game changer. The game is barely chirping at me now. What a relief. I'd get rid of the research notifications too, but I'm worried about the 'pursuing the wrong path' which I would like to get. Anyway, the game is way better now, thanks.

It would be nice to queue up manual commands through the right-click context menu on an automated fleet, then have it automatically return to it's previous automation setting.

Very nice, though I'd be happy at this point if the AI would simply refuel all the ships in a fleet instead of 80% of the ships, leaving one or two with zero fuel and constantly dragging behind the fleet at 1/3 speed.

I am really enjoying your series. Imho, don't worry about the length. As someone new to the distant worlds franchise, the little details you are covering definitely adds to my excitement and immersion. :) I would probably simply miss these details if you just ran the combat without pausing at full speed.

31:31 You said the AI does a good job building bases and that's somewhat accurate, though this pirate base is a clear fail build. Energy Collection Rate is 75, while Static Energy Use is 80. It should run out of fuel quite quickly. The dev said something in the pre-DLC live stream about a "temporary fix" where weapons run solely off of the energy collectors. Edit: Excellent video, especially the part around 44:58 where you describe combat with the base in real-time. I've mentioned your series on the Steam forums several times, trying to direct new players here.

"Ai does a good job of its ship design" I don't know about that. Usually is pretty ok, but I see a lot of mistakes and weird loadouts that show that the AI doesn't fully "understand" what slots are good for what and their purpose. It has some rough guidelines (puts pd in the widest angle slots, sometimes to its detriment as it puts pd rail gun into a medium or large slot) I would love if they introduced a guided AI ship design. You select parameters for each role (Type of weapon, range, speed vs firepower vs defence) and then ai would try to create something with your parameters. Even the "Upgrade" button instead of just replacing the old with a new weapon of the same size in the same research path, the ai is changing my weapon sizes or puts completely new weapons into the slots I didn't even have anything in. It makes the whole ship design unnecessary cumbersome

I agree, but it does a good *enough* job for non-warships. For many, good enough is a good job.

I wouldn’t worry too much about keeping these videos short Das. In fact longer videos would be preferable as you could cover the subject without having to rush and miss things.

Does anyone know what exactly the height in these damage charts in the weapons menu shows? (For example at @40:46 ) The length horizontally is the range like DasTactic explains and the legend shows, but is the vertical height the damage? It also seems to change in transparency over it's length. Are these just astethic choices or do these things actually convey additional information?
@harvbegal6868

Good question. I thought it had to do with fire rate. But the fact it gets thinner over distance makes me think it might be accuracy.
@Baldamundo
@Baldamundo Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure the width is damage (which usually will reduce at range as a function of reduced accuracy). Not sure about transparency
@MC-ro5sb
@MC-ro5sb Жыл бұрын
@@Baldamundo I assumed transparency had to do with lower accuracy as a lot of weapons have dramatic accuracy falloff at Max range. Could be wrong though

What do you tend to do with the debris of destroyed ships and monsters? I notice you can micromanage a ship to collect them, but it is rather time consuming. Will your private industry ships go there and eventually conduct salvage? Is it even worth worrying about?

If I recall correctly automated constructors and explorers pick these up but I could be wrong I’m just getting back into the game

@@zigzera7757 You can actually even set a constructor to only pick up salvage automatically. Check it's automation options.

One Caveat about letting AI design ships, involves the AI Loading a precious slot with a Large planet Bombing weapon, when you have no intention of bombing planets, while you need maximum DPS firepower to win a war....

Since it takes into account weapon slew limits, does it take into account shield/armor facing? ie. Is combat always frontal assault?
@adhyperdad3027

No. Combat occurs on a 2D disk. A great way to see this is to zoom in on a fighter or bomber and watch how it skips around the field of combat

@omni_0101

Ground combat and ship boarding is mostly abstracted but it does exist and it is important to the game. So you can build interdictor fleets that disable your enemy ships and take them over, and you can invade and occupy enemy colonies.

It's really a poor design choice by the developers to put such a short range limit on rail guns. There's nothing dispersing or slowing the slug over a distance in any realistic scenario. I guess that's there way of saying it's a game and not a real simulation. I'm also baffled why no fleet formation here. Clearly, a simple perpendicular line formation would be vastly more effective than having ships wander into enemy kill range 1 at a time. Perhaps it's in the game but wasn't used here due to time constraints? This game has been so disappointing, but it is slowing getting there year after year. It would be nice if the modding ability was more than a simple token offering of changing music or some graphics; changing behavior or altering actual code/scripts that affect operations would be real. (like egosoft X3 modding, you know.. "REAL" modding)
