@@theHITkid-mz4ox Yes, but no. With the fact he was injured as well (and had no idea how badly) then he would not have been faulted really for sitting tight for back up to arrive. However, he took charge of the entire scene and started collected contact info even though he knows he won't be working the wreck. He wanted to make sure all of that information was collected to help whoever was working the wreck.

To everyone commenting about the "stupidity" of running out of gas: I remember a time in my life when I was literally scrounging for pocket change, counting pennies, and making sure every drop of gas came out of the nozzle just to make it to work. The stress of being broke in general, having your car's fuel gauge permanently in the red, wondering if the $4.87 you put in the morning was good enough to get you home... Tell me you haven't had a hard life without telling me you haven't had a hard life.

it isnt just that she ran out of gas. It is where she chose to stop after she ran out of gas. Your car doesnt just magically turn off when your out of gas. There are signs that it is happening within a mile of your car shutting down. Even if she was on the highway she should have coasted to the other side of the overpass at the bear minimum. Stopping where she did was monumentally stupid.

@@cylascrannell5917 Everybody makes mistakes and/ or makes bad judgement calls in their life. Even you made an embarrassing error in your own comment while trying to insult the intelligence of others. “Bear” is an animal. “Bare” is the correct bear/bare for your “bare minimum” comment. So, maybe just try to remember that no human is perfect before calling others names and insulting them. You can disagree with something someone has done and still be respectful about it. @@cylascrannell5917 Maybe on some newer vehicles, but I can 100% guarantee you that yes, a car will go from being completely functional to losing all power with no warning. But props to the young lady and the officer for being incredibly cordial and concerned for the well-being of others. I'm just really glad everyone was okay. You could potentially save yourself from a lifetime of chronic pain
@natd602

Yes! Adrenaline can mask our injuries very well. It’s how our bodies survive in the circumstance, but you still have to get checked to see what the adrenaline might be hiding. Head injuries are notorious for presenting delayed symptoms. I had a moderate concussion and I didn’t start fainting until 5 hours after I hit my head. Don’t even know how I was able to hold off passing out while I was driving home from the across town. I’m glad I got checked immediately because we just don’t know what could be happening, especially if you’re a little dazed.

Agreed. I used to be in the Ambulance Service in Australia, and one of the things I was told duing training was that if you're in a accident with 'only' minor wounds (such as this officer), to call for an ambulance to get checked out. You may have a minor concussion or a laceration that needs to be tendered to. But it also creates a paper trail, which could be important down the line, as if months later you develop neck problem that may have been caused by the accident. Then, at least your insurance company has something to work from.

My dad's a firefighter and a giant teddy bear. He has friends in law enforcement that are like this man, though those are far and few in-between. I didn't realize this until my first interaction with a cop that wasn't casual. A lot of people who are power hungry are in this profession and it's sad.

The same exact thing happened to me in Milwaukee literally a week ago. Differences aside from me not being a cop, 1. The person that hit my car was drunk (and caught thankfully). 2. The opposite side of my vehicle was destroyed and subsequently totaled, and 3. I wasn’t even in the state when this happened, I was parked at a friend’s for a ride to the airport.

The look on her face after getting out made me laugh. Thank God no one was hurt! A 15 min video showed not only kind, patient caring people. You actually saw pure gold hearts. From watching, the cop was worried about everybody else, before himself. The young lady concerns switched from, low on money to, is he okay? The witness made a U-Turn to check on the safety of the people and see if he could help with anything. The paramedics and even the tow truck company was there within mins. To top it off the cop had the one gentleman help the young lady with gas. Like what town is this?! Awesome people.
