However, he took charge of the entire scene and started collected contact info even though he knows he won't be working the wreck. He wanted to make sure all of that information was collected to help whoever was working the wreck.

I feel so sorry for the woman… she was already having a bad day, running out of gas and saying she wouldn’t be able to afford a tow… and in a matter of seconds, things got so much worse. I totally know how that feels, I’ve have some tough times I just had a hard time climbing out of. She seemed so dismayed. This officer stayed so calm and was so kind. That’s not always the case. If it hadn’t softened the blow, I can just imagine the poor thing lying in bed that night (hopefully not a hospital bed) staring up at the cosmos wondering, “Why me??” I live in a town with a LOT of one way streets and I have had SOOO many drivers going the wrong way down one ways coming straight towards me… and they just continue on. Honking does nothing, flashing brights at them does nothing… the speed limit stays between 25-35 on those streets and people fly at 50… texting… it just amazes me that people don’t take driving seriously. Like, you’re operating a heavy piece of machinery. One small wrong move and lives can end. Pay attention!

That was one of the nicest cops I’ve ever seen. He starts by helping the stranded driver get her car in working order/gas and after he’s hit from behind, with injuries I might add, still doing his job, calling in for fire, rescue, etc. and concentrating on the others involved in the crash. I’m really glad to know he’s okay.

To everyone commenting about the "stupidity" of running out of gas: I remember a time in my life when I was literally scrounging for pocket change, counting pennies, and making sure every drop of gas came out of the nozzle just to make it to work. The stress of being broke in general, having your car's fuel gauge permanently in the red, wondering if the $4.87 you put in the morning was good enough to get you home... Tell me you haven't had a hard life without telling me you haven't had a hard life.

it isnt just that she ran out of gas. It is where she chose to stop after she ran out of gas. Your car doesnt just magically turn off when your out of gas. There are signs that it is happening within a mile of your car shutting down. Even if she was on the highway she should have coasted to the other side of the overpass at the bear minimum. Stopping where she did was monumentally stupid.

When that happens, the car is just coasting and you lose power steering, so in fact trying to steer a cross multiple lanes of traffic would be the colossally stupid thing to do.

Like 5 years ago there was a rash of cops getting smacked on the highway in MA. I used to live there and they even put out a PSA to pay attention (like that will fix it, haha)... but I believe 7 serious rear enders happened, I believe 2 state troopers died within a year or two... Judging by the groaning sounds when he got hit, that cop is probably going to be cramping up like crazy when he gets over the adrenaline rush. It’s a shame the courts seem to think if you move around fine after the accident, you must not have hurt yourself. Oh yes. I got T Boned by someone who ran a stop sign (to be fair it was kind of hidden and I don’t blame them). I was knocked unconscious for a few seconds and my neck hurt when I came to. I thought other than that I was okay. Next day I could not walk. Could not move an inch in bed. The seatbelt bruised my entire torso. Had to use a walker for weeks. Seatbelt saved my life though as well as turning my wheel at the last min. They hit the drivers side back door and not mine. Would’ve been worse had they hit my door.

I got knocked of my bicycle a few years ago by a panel van. tore up the back and side of my right arm, had a reasonable gash on my head and chipped my femur (didnt break my leg completely but left a hairline fracture). I remember hitting the ground and then "waking up" about a mile further up the road as someone spotted me pushing my busted up bike (on autopilot after blacking out) the rest of the way home and pulled over to check I was ok. they asked if I needed an ambulance but I refused and asked if they could possibly give me a lift home. the next morning I woke up with a pounding headache, my arm felt like it was broken (it was) and I had a bruise from my kidney, all the way down my side to my right knee and I couldnt move my leg. managed to get to my phone off the dresser and call an ambulance and finally went into the hospital. I should have waited for at the scene for an ambulance and gone to the hospital but I was stubborn, barely out of my teens and I was running on a head injury (on top of everything else) as well as adrenaline. atleast I can look back on it as a learning experience now, "what not to do" I guess.

I was in a minor one-vehicle crash when I was 16 (I wasn't the one driving; icy road conditions). It wasn't until the next day that the pain from the whiplash set in. Like freezing fire covering my neck and shoulders. The facts about adrenaline and its pain-delaying properties are well-known. For any court to take such an argument seriously is atrocious- even moreso than a lawyer using the argument in the first place.

The pain always manifests itself later on. I remember getting hit by a drunk driver in my squad car (he ran the red light). I left the hospital feeling ok. The next morning I woke up and my entire body was stiff. 6 months later I returned to duty.

My husband is a disabled retired police officer who was hit in his cruiser at a roll over accident 14 years ago. His vehicle was hit by a wanted felon at 80 mph. He's now going on his 7th spine surgery and has been in constant pain since the accident. At the scene he felt sore but within a few hours the doctor diagnosed him with a broken back. These officers risk their lives every day and I wish people had more respect for them. 💙💙

The tow driver was already 8 seconds past the cop when the collision happened. He came back to hopefully get a tow. But it is coincidence that he mentioned "Don's" and other companies for the girl to call. When the cop asked the tower driver to help her with getting gas, it appears the woman refused because the tower probably was trying to charge her to fetch the gas.

I love that everyone encouraged him to get checked out and that he was ok with that. So often people shame that and praise “toughing it out”. But speaking from someone who had a serious head injury and separate neck injury and didnt get checked out till it was much worse-- just go. Yes! Adrenaline can mask our injuries very well. It’s how our bodies survive in the circumstance, but you still have to get checked to see what the adrenaline might be hiding. Head injuries are notorious for presenting delayed symptoms. I had a moderate concussion and I didn’t start fainting until 5 hours after I hit my head. Don’t even know how I was able to hold off passing out while I was driving home from the across town. I’m glad I got checked immediately because we just don’t know what could be happening, especially if you’re a little dazed.

I used to be in the Ambulance Service in Australia, and one of the things I was told duing training was that if you're in a accident with 'only' minor wounds (such as this officer), to call for an ambulance to get checked out. You may have a minor concussion or a laceration that needs to be tendered to. But it also creates a paper trail, which could be important down the line, as if months later you develop neck problem that may have been caused by the accident. Then, at least your insurance company has something to work from.

German firefighter here, and yes youre absoloutley right. Most people dont feel any pain in such a situation and the pain from spinal injuries gets back to you a few hours after the accident. Also at the speeds both the driver of the ramming car and the cop most likely suffered a concussion. In crashes where the airbag deploys we always use our spine board just in case. (also the woman after being involved in the accident still worrying about getting gas so she doesnt have to pay for a tow is worrying me. Im just glad we have adequate and mandatory insurance coverage here for such things.) Same for medical care. We would have offered all 3 involved a trip to the hospital and no one has to make a choice based on finances). This also shows how dangerous ther work is when youre on the road. Accidents on the Autobahn can get rly bad when you have cars speeding with 130km/h+ and you dont have to worry just about the people in the accident itself but also that you dont make the scene bigger by properly securing crash sites. We had a rly bad accident once where at night in rain a car crashed into the middle fence the driver was dead as we arrived. Doesnt matter for us we work just as if the person was still alive until we get the official declaration from the Doctor whch wasnt on scene yet. And a few minutes in as 2 of our guys were gutting up the crashed car to get the man out. A policemen spotted a lonely guy on the opposite side of the 6 lane road. It later turned out that that man was the passenger which after the accident climbed out of the car and went over 3 lanes of 130kmh+ traffic and stood there the entire time. When people are in shock they tend to walk away from the scene. They become a problem when they try to go back and get run over. by miracle the guy wasnt badly injured just a frew bruises and a concussion. I will never forget that. Im just glad i did not look at the drivers face or i couldnt forget that one either.

Mine wasn't drunk but I can commiserate. I was out wandering around, helped the car I was pushed into and so on. Next day couldn't move and off work for 6 months and even then I was 1 day on 2 days off to recover for about another 6 months!

She seemed mad at first the officer stopped. Thank God he did or else she would have taken the hit instead of the office. He did his job. That's what it's about. Or should be. Serving and protecting.

I think she was stressed and somewhat panicking, some people get overwhelmed very easily. First out of gas, then an officer interaction (not bad in itself but it’s an interaction you were prepared for), and then an accident. She’s got a very rough day, as do all of them now.

@@prestongarvey2961 true! BUT, unfortunately those things take FOREVER! My brother has been in an accident involving his personal vehicle AND work vehicle and the other person was CLEARLY at fault (Person running a red light and getting slammed into from behind.) Even with the overwhelming evidence insurance was a hassle and it took months to see any sort of money. I know people who've said it took a better part of a year to get paid and sometimes the pay wasn't enough. Unless my car gets absolutely totaled , I'm not at fault and the other person confesses to everything, I never want to get in an accident.

EXACTLY - she acted frustrated. Cop was figuring out the best way to help her, Kinda left her alone but said he’d stay behind her till help arrived SPECIFICALLY to protect her from an incident like this. That SUV would have totally crushed the Malibu, and even hitting the explorer cruiser seemed to really knock that cop around pretty good. She’d really be hurting. 😕

The calm demeanor and professionalism of this officer, even after getting stuck like this is only commendable. Really a huge plus that this officer handled things until others arrived to help him out. A lot would panic or forget their training completely. Happy no one got injured worse. I hope the driver of the black car learned his lesson not to be distracted while driving.

All I can say is way to go to everybody. And people from Wisconsin seem to be incredibly caring. This was an awful video to see but a prime example of people doing what is right.

As a Wisconsinite we definitely are very caring, its really kinda a mid-west thing, you won't find the same kind of hospitality pretty much anywhere else in the US except maybe Alaskans. Don't piss us off tho, we own just as many guns as Texans lmfao

I love how the roles reversed once the paramedics and fire department arrived. The medics both went and tried to open the driver side door of the crumpled vehicle whilst the fireman was giving the officer medical advice 😂

I mean the officer didnt get badly hurt and the person in the car could have a big injure after the crash the ems of course will go try to get that person instead of the officer and the firemen since there wasnt any fire and stuff they just check on the officer

not uncommon though, firefighters know basic first aid and can assist before paramedics arrive so it was just in his nature to check the officer

I've been hit three times by runners who got away and it has not affected my rates. I crack a bumper cover and they try to jack it up until I pointed out that in 20 years I've had two tickets and a single cracked bumper... what's with the bump? I really appreciate that the other officers took his injuries seriously and didn't do what other's have done on videos I have seen. He was not only hit by a car but on duty and deserves to have his employer take care of any injuries he sustained during it.
