The real reason why Stephen King hated Kubrick's version of his novel is because Kubrick greatly improved it. Same reason why Paddy Chayefsky hated Ken Russell's version of his novel "Altered States." In both cases, two master directors creating great films out of mediocre books written by overrated hacks.

I love the Shining and Eyes Wide Shut but Stanley is a bit overrated, that documentary on the Shining was a joke! I was embarrassed watching it. Would love to see you review Eyes Wide Shut (my favorite Kubrick film)
