Hi Karin,...Love that stamp!...and I like the weird too! Lol...when I was learning what to do with alcohol inks, someone had used the 'backside' of photo paper with better results. It was compared to yupo paper. I haven't yet tried it with alcohol inks but I will. I'd be interested to know if you've tried using the backside?
@karinscorner23657 жыл бұрын
I have never thought of using the backside...because it's not glossy! But I'll see if it works. thanks for the tip. Hugs!

I came to the same conclusion when I tested the Oxides and plain distress inks. I can't tell the difference between them either. I decided to use my distress inks because they are cheaper and more colors are available. I also sprayed water with metallic pigments in them, which gets wiped off with the baby wipe (so I lost the metallic sheen). So no sense in using mica sprays if I used a baby wipe at the end. The distress inks don't seem to haze over as much as the oxide inks either, so a lot of them I did not wipe down.
@karinscorner23657 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Jan! I still love working with the Oxides, because I love the pastel look. Hugs form Holland!

Love this card ad your enthusiasm in just going for it!! I wonder if it can be re-activated in any way if it came in contact with water/moisture? Would sealing it with the Tim Holtz glaze (micro glaze?) I saw a clip recently where he demo'd it using it with a glossy alcohol paper & the oxides - I think? Just curious. Either way love the weird and whimsy!! ☆♡☆
@karinscorner23657 жыл бұрын
I think it's permanent once sprayed with water....haven't tried to re-activate it again :) I'd have to check that Tim Holz clip! Hugs from Holland!
@karinscorner23657 жыл бұрын
I saw the clip where Tim used the micro glaze...looks cool. But with my baby whipe i think i got the same result....and to add to my other comment, when you sprits water and then heatset...then it's permanent.

that's weird that you DE -oxidized the paper when you wiped it off (essentially right? you wiped off the layer that was the 'oxidization' basically if i'm seeing things right... which you end up saying too) :( could have done that with regular Distress Ink if you didn't want the oxidization aspect of the Oxides though, right? i mean if vibrancy is what you want, then that's what you want is the regular old Distress Ink. which is awesome too. i love my Distress Inks and I have every single one of em. (and i say that cuz some people act like Distress Ink is old so it's not a current & cool product just cuz it's old. i disagree. they are all so awesome)... BUT I do have to say the Oxides are easier to layer and layer and layer whereas the Regular Inks layer AND blend, and you can only go so far before you gotta stop. It's easier & BETTER to layer 1000 times with the Oxides.

Thanks for watching! Yes, when the card was finished, I thought that I might as wel have used normal Distress inks ;) But it is fun to do!! And as you say, the layering is awesome with Oxide inks. But I still use my Distress inks a lot. Hugs from the Netherlands!

I do wonder, however, if using the oxides helps with layering them *differently* so maybe it's still a better "layer" once you take that pigment layer off. Because to *me* (maybe i was seeing it wrong, I dunno) it looked like the layers didn't muddy nearly as much as the regular distress whereas the Oxides (once the pigment layer was off) looked *pure* in color even as they crossed each other in the layers. like i said, maybe my eyes aren't seeing what they think they're seeing, but i could've sworn the Oxides' layers looked purer in color and not as muddy. They are certainly fun and i can NOT wait til I'm off work the next 5 days to swatch the rest of my Oxides & start playing. :)

I think layering is easier with the Oxide inks. I love my Distress inks, but I'm very good at making mud colour! lol! The inks are so different to work with, but also a bit the same ;) I hope you'll have lots of fun working with the Oxide inks! Hugs!

I know this is a year on but I wonder if it would be helpful for others who watch this video and read the comments to know, the difference between the distress inks and that oxide inks are actually more than just there oxidizing abilities. The distress inks will only be vibrant on white paper where as the oxides will be vibrant on any coloured card. Oxide inks are more opaque because they are a pigment ink the distress inks are dye inks which is why they can only be vibrant on white paper. I hope this has been useful in knowing the differences between the two. Though I suspect you personally already know the difference now lol

I loved the card but I thought the scribble spoiled it a bit.
