Great practical information Trent. That erase blend mode is awesome! And that bit about the alpha curves adjustment is gold!

Thanks Trent I always had a hard time with textures now I understand. Is it possible to do a tutorial on embedded documents. The way you explain things always make the lights come on for me. Once again thank you for these tutorials.

Hi JimDart, thanks for the suggestion...I will add embedded documents to my list! Is there any particular aspect of embedded documents that is giving you trouble?

Hey Trent, Another great video. Thank you. Couldn’t you have used the … I can’t remember the name … Blend Range maybe … so that you’d clip the range on the black end? I think it would work like the Threshold layer adjustment.
@TechnicallyTrent Жыл бұрын
Hi DougDina, that's a great suggestion that I didn't think about! I looked at the Blend Ranges menu and it seems like it doesn't allow you to select on Alpha (Opacity), only Red, Green, Blue, or Master (all RGB). So I don't know of a way to get it to work, but if you figure something out, be sure to let me know :)

Oh man! So useful! Thank you for proving great tutorials like this. Issues shown are ones I find I need to overcome often and your samples explain them visually so well, and are exactly what I need to know. Excellent info with great visuals and explanations, two thumbs up!

Great tutorials. It seems like all the best teachers are in Adobe (which I know inside and out) but trying to switch to Affinity to avoid the rented software from Adobe and the ever-growing charging of their fees. Great work - you are up there on top as my favorite Affinity teacher! I haven't FULLY made the switch to Affinity but getting there little by little as I get more comfortable with Affinity and the options they have keep growing. (One program I can say that I have completely replaced is inDesign (and I really loved InDesign back in the day - Publisher is great!) - the hardest program I have getting rid of for Adobe is Photoshop. I will miss Acrobat too, but it can be replaced as well.

Hi KAGosage, thanks for the comment! Yes, it can be hard to get off Adobe, especially when you need to work with other people who use it. I am actually learning After Effects these days, so I still have to be in the Adobe system, but I would love more alternatives.
@KAGosage25 Жыл бұрын
@@TechnicallyTrent Very true. Adobe has great software. I don't even mind paying the expensive price as their software was worth it but I don't want to rent the software. Affinity does have some better and more modern approaches with some of their techniques vs Adobe as well. The more competition, the better - just like Quark found out the hard way in the early 2000's. lol

I'm following the steps but when I try to export it, it's giving a white background around the graphic even though the background is set to transparent
@TechnicallyTrent7 ай бұрын
Hi @MigsK9, which file format are you exporting to? Only PNG will support a transparent background.
@MigsK97 ай бұрын
@TechnicallyTrent ahh I see, I was trying to export it as an SVG, I tried PNG and it worked. I didn't know only PNG supports it. Thank you for the reply!
@TechnicallyTrent7 ай бұрын
@@MigsK9 SVG can also have transparent background, but a lot of times it puts in a white background by default. But what you can do is select the white background in your SVG and delete it. Then it should be transparent. Hope this helps!

Brilliant! Thank you. I don't know if I'll ever get into on-demand stuff but this is an invaluable help if I do... and if I don't! I am curious to know what the size is of the texture samples you used, in pixels per inch (I'm guessing 300) and in inches and/or cms. Thanks.
@TechnicallyTrent4 ай бұрын
Hi @richardmale3191! The bitmap texture files I use are usually about 3600x3600 pixels. It depends on where I download them from, but usually they are in that 3000 to 4000 pixel range.

Do we have to be members to buy textures? Or does a subscription cover any downloads? I noticed the bundles have prices on them
@TechnicallyTrent6 ай бұрын
Hi @dccd673! A subscription covers unlimited downloads for everything on Creative Fabrica. When you are subscribed, the prices go away and you just see a "Download" button :)

If you need to be able to adjust the color after adding the distressed effect, does that preclude using a jpeg? I used a jpg. distressed texture on text and it kept blocking color adjustments afterward.
@TechnicallyTrent4 ай бұрын
Hi @bertnerny! Are you referring to using a JPEG for the texture? If you rasterize it to a mask and apply it to your text, you should still be able to change the color of your text. I just tried it and it worked. Hope this helps!

@@TechnicallyTrent Hi Trent! Thanks and I'll try it again. For some reason the color wheel wasn't responding before.

I have the text I want typed in that I want to distress. I loaded a texture image and put it over the text. I went to layers and erase and it's not working. What am I doing wrong? Ty!
