@TechnicallyTrent
@TechnicallyTrent 12 сағат бұрын
Hi @novelamediaconnector! Are you talking about adding a watermark to your images? The easiest way would be to place your logo in the Affinity file by choosing File -> Place. Then, in the layer stack, move your logo to the top. From there you can adjust the size and transparency as desired. Hope this helps!

Please be honest! Is Adobe Premier pro better as an overall software? Or is Davinci more equipped?
@TechnicallyTrent

Hi @top1s254! If Adobe Premier Pro was free, I would still use Davinci Resolve. I just find Davinci to be much better designed software to use. Plus, Davinci Resolve is totally free so you have nothing to lose by trying it. Hope this helps!

Trent...again thank you for the detailed instructions you provide. You do a good job - that is what I strive to do in the KZbin tutorials I do for Woodworking and 3D print making on Lasers, CNCs, and 3D printing. One of the things I focus my channel on helping people with is designing projects to use in each of these efforts. In the past my focus has been primarily on using Vectric vCarve or Aspire, and Lightburn software packages. But, as I purchase files I notice some people appear to use things like Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer, and other graphics programs for the svg, and other vector files they sell. So this has gotten me more interested in trying to seriously learn Affinity Designer and therefore you see more questions from me in your comments section. Your replies have been helpful and I know how challenging it can be to keep up with comments and provide a thoughtful reply vs. KZbin's suggested candid response they offer us creators. In show of appreciation for the work you have put in and the fact I am asking some pretty detailed question I want to give you a thanks and will use the thanks button to do so. This may not be the best way to do this but it is quick and heartfelt. OK now that I bribed you a bit, another specific question. One of the things in designing the projects I do is to have accurate measurements with my designs - for example if I am designing a layout for a cribbage boards, I would want the holw vectors to be be 1/8" in diameter and the width of the board and traks, etc. to be specific measurement parameters to allow the svg or dxf file to be imported into the vectric or laser software at the correct size. Do you have a video or series of videos about designing with specific size/dimension parameters and then ensuring my exports remain true to those design parameters? Do you have a website, Patreon, or other way for people to reach out with specific questions?

Hi @RobSandstromDesigns, thanks for your donation, I appreciate it! And best of luck with your channel. Handmade crafting is something that is constantly on my to-do list, especially with resin. I just need to sit down and finally do it. I don't know a lot about lasers, CNC, and 3D printing, but it doesn't surprise me that many people would use common programs like Adobe Illustrator and Affinity Designer. Probably if you can unite those topics (laser/wood with common software), you'll find a dedicated audience. As for your question, typically vectors are designed to be independent of size. My understanding is that when you import them into your tool's software, that is the stage where you specify the actual physical size. To keep things straight in your head when designing, you can specify the size in inches in Affinity Designer when you create a shape. Example: a circle that is 2" in diameter next to a square that is 1". This will allow you to set the relative size of things. However, I don't think the actual physical units of "inches" will be stored with the file when you export it. My guess is that you will need to re-specify the overall size of the design when you import it into your cutting/laser software. Let me know how it goes! As for contacting me, currently KZbin comments or email (shown on my channel banner) is the best way. Have a great weekend! Trent

I just came into design thing and tried almost all the popular vector graphic software, and affinity is the best looking interface lol. It's super nice to see, easy and the best, snapping also the best among all popular vector software. It's just that, no bitmap trace. I wish that they make the bitmap tracing that is equal to power trace in coreldraw, because I find it the best bitmap tracing among all vector graphic software. They also need to make the capability of exporting to illustrator file.

I'm new to affinity and found your channel. I purchased the universal, but most will use the designer and photo. My main reason is to build lower thirds for my youtube channel. I looked through and may have missed a video on how to build lower thirds with a transparent look. I also edit with fcp and can use motion to make the different elements move that I make on designer. I just need some help getting started with building the elements in designer.
@TechnicallyTrent
@TechnicallyTrent 3 күн бұрын
Hi @TAHDAHFarm, thanks for watching! In general, I'd say that to build the lower-thirds graphics you'll want to create PNGs of the text with transparent backgrounds. You can also export as SVG if your video editor supports that. I use Davinci Resolve, and it is a convoluted process to use SVGs in that, so I export as transparent PNGs. But if your editor supports SVGs, that would be a good choice. Hope this helps!

I have not used SVG before. Always use png. I'm trying to figure out the transparent and cropping of a bkgd I want to use. I have png logo to go in the lower left. Just need the, basically, bkgd to put the font on. I'm probably jumping in over my head with just starting to use this software.

Color me hardheaded, I can't follow. You're jumping all over without more information. What is bitmap, how did you get to it? Everyone is excited that you have simplified it and it does look simple, till I try to apply it as I watch.
@TechnicallyTrent
@TechnicallyTrent 4 күн бұрын
Hi @photography8868, sorry some parts of the video were not clear. Yes, you hold SHIFT and click on multiple objects to select them at the same time. A bitmap is a graphic you can place in your document. They can be PNGs, JPGs, or even some other formats. Typically it is something you could have downloaded form the internet, bought, or created yourself. You can add them to your document by selecting File -> Place. If you'd like an overview of how Affinity Designer works, you can check out my free 2-hour beginner video here on KZbin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqqYdHejf7inbsk Hope this helps! Trent

This feature doesn't work correctly in Affinity Publisher. Selecting a colired shape in publisher and converting it to a text shape, doesn't eliminate shape color and in fact you can't change the color of the shape once it is a text shape.
@TechnicallyTrent
@TechnicallyTrent 5 күн бұрын
Hi @radkonpsygami7634, thanks for that note. Yes, sometimes Publisher, Photo, and Designer have slight differences in behavior. I'm not sure if the Publisher behavior is a feature or a bug. if converting a shape to a text frame, I recommend making a copy of the shape so that it can easily be colored/un-colored later and re-converted to a text frame if needed.
