My expertise is in composition and the business of publishing surrounding them so I have no opinion on distributors.... As for streaming: I definitely think that streaming is/can be profitable... however I look at streaming as a discovery tool first, an income stream second and even then; part of a multi income-stream business model... for example: (1) my production fee, (2) recording, mixing and mastering fees (3) publishing [includes streaming royalties and etc.,] and (4) sync... other producers have (5) monetized content [social media] (6) drum kits/sound patches. We could go back and forth about streaming's royalty models but I believe in streaming... You sale a CD for $10 and all you have is that initial sale regardless of how many times someone listens to the music on that CD... whereas streaming presents a path to virtually getting paid forever from hit/classic record... Artist since the beginning on time needed the ability to sale something (instruments, sheet music, hard ticket sales, clothes and etc.,). With that said; I do agree that far too often artist follow trends that "they" said you had to do versus doing what's best for your career....If printing a 100 CDs and selling them for $10 is better for your business model right now as an artist - DO IT.
