I personally love that they added ballads to the album. Adds a nice variety which I always liked. It also shows bravery IMO that they're willing to showcase a more softer side as well as maintaining their edgier side.

As an 18 year Disturbed fan I'll say this. MAYBE just MAYBE he doesn't want to sound like Vince from Motley Cruë or Phil Anselmo when he's 50. I've sang Stupify twice in my life doing karaoke and it's hell. Now try that 12 songs a night for 2 decades.

OMG. I love that he mentioned triumphThey've gone into obscurity and they were awesome. Love that I mean good company. 1st concert I was 14 and it was Triumph. I didn't know who they were. I just bought the tickets. I Don't remember who I went with, How much the tickets cost or where even got the money. But I was able to get basically in the very front Excellent seats in a small venue. And I yelled something out about how gorgeous the guitar player was and nothand the fucker heard me. Just as I was about to say it the song was over so it was quiet. He just smiled and like bowed with his guitar.

Concerning what might be Disturbed's "Black" album, either Ten Thousand Fists or Indestructible seem to be the best candidates for the albums that are already out. The Sickness, being the debut album wouldn't, sadly. Asylum was good and made platinum, but didn't have as much radio presence. Evolution may hit a wider audience, as intended. It's well thought out and David did a damned decent job avoiding "bubblegumming"the band's style. I like that David is embracing the softer side of Disturbed. My opinion though, is that after Evolution, that helimits the ballads to two or three per album, with any covers or tributes excepted. Or there could be a Lost Children-esque album of nothing but ballads, as opposed to just B-Sides, which I'd be okay with. Maybe call it "Cure: The Ballads" or something like that, and include every soft song, softer covers and any softer B-sides included as a compilation.

Just finished listening to the new album. I find it interesting. Personally, I don't mind ballads that much, but I must admit this wasn't fully what I expected when hearing my favorite band was releasing a new album. I know this album is experimental, and with that knowledge I can say that everything fits on this album. Personally, I like harder stuff a bit more than ballads, but a couple on an album are totally fine to me as long as they don't follow that typical pop beat, which these didn't. I hope you guys are still around in a few years to release another album, maybe go a little throwback with some heavy songs, experiment with a couple heavier than normal songs, and still add in a ballad or two. Lol still getting money from me on this one.

I've seen reviews accusing them of making a ballad heavy album because of sound of silence, but like david explained here, these are just songs the band has wanted to make for a while but felt scared to until now. And they are really great songs. The album may be different but it's really good.

Why did they have 5 ballads? Well, this is their 7th album. Their first 6 had two ballads between them. Darkness on Believe and The Sound of Silence on Immortalized. Watch You Burn was to make a ballad for The Sickness. A Reason to Fight was to make a ballad for Ten Thousand Fists, Uninvited Guest was to make a ballad for Indestructible, Hold On to Memories was to make a ballad for Asylum and Already Gone was to give Evolution its own ballad. The next album will have one on it likely, as will subsequent albums. Is the album a bit overloaded on ballads? Yeah, a bit. I liked them all though. In fact, Are You Ready was probably the only song I didn't really care for. It's a good album, just not what Disturbed usually gives. We'll see the initial backlash replaced with acceptance and praise in due time.
