David Draiman's voice is truly amazing yes, but also something which nobody else seems to have commented on is the wonderful orchestration which accompany's him. It's a track I've listened to hundreds of times now and every time, it still manages to give me goosebumps. What a wonderful interpretation of an absolute classic and iconic S+G song from back in the '60's. I'm sure Disturbed will never manage to do anything like this ever again. Please watch the version they did live on the Conan show, it'll blow your socks off.

Simon & Garfunkel's version was warning of impending doom to mankind, if we do not change our ways, and Disturbs response, is a much more angry version, because we did not listen to the warning......very prophetic and love both renditions ❤️ 💛 💙

Disturbed is a _very_ popular heavy metal band--this recording is not at all typical of their sound. David Draiman (the singer) comes from a long line of Jewish cantors, and has been receiving vocal training for basically his entire life (he still employs vocal coaches). He's also a very intelligent individual, and comes across as being quite down to earth and humble in his interviews. It was already mentioned, but if you want to delve deeper into Disturbed's catalog, I would _highly_ recommend starting with "The Light", which isn't quite as heavy as their other songs & also prominently features Draiman's vocal range. And make sure you watch the *actual* official video for that one, it really conceptualizes the lyrical content beautifully.

I'm also a granny and I was so glad to find out I wasn't alone :) I love this song by Disturbed and have watched the official version 100 times but I always tried to look away from his piercings. My daughter turned me on to this version and would laugh at me every time we watched it together because I would apparently move my mouth and jaw when I would see his piercing. I wasn't aware I did that but it disturbed me and distracted me. LoL. Just not part of my culture so it took some getting used to. I don't even notice it now. Love this song, love Disturbed.

Don't know how you found this video but it's not the official video and their performance on Conan is INCREDIBLE!! Paul Simon says the song is simply about people not communicating. He has since removed the piercings and the band is from Chicago, Illinois.

The song written by Simon Garfunkle, Sung as a melody by Simon and Garfunkle 1963, written to call out in protest of the Viet Nam War. The song is about the Apocalypses a Nuclear Blast "Flash of a Neon Light" and the after math of the world. Disturbed's version actually encapsulates the actual emotion to the impact and mistake of human kind in the rage which creates man to destroy itself " And the People Bowed and Prayed To the Neon God They made" its the sounds of silence to a shock over such destruction.

This is not the original video....the original is beautiful. David Draiman.....one of the BEST voices out there. Can go from baritone to tenor, from clear as a bell to rasp and back on a dime. Awesome vocals from the front man!

Oh, wow, I got the same comment from my grampa back when I got my lip pierced 15 years ago. :) You really get used to the piercing and forget it is there. I'm so glad you liked this version and David's voice. He really is amazing. One of my vocal inspirations along with Floor Jansen.

Your audio quality has greatly improved since your first couple of videos. Much better! Disturbed is a metal band. Most of their music is heavire than this. The singer, David Draiman, is classically trained and is obcioulsy very talented. Every now and then, they release a more "mainstream" song like this. It helps them to reach a broader audience and find new listeners, and it reminds us of the incredible (and often understimated) talent that so many metal bands actually have. You cut the ending of the song again. Listen to it when you check out the real official music video. It gives a satisfying closure to the song. And the video is truly beautiful and upliifting.

Not the official video, but that's ok. It's David Draimans vocals that are important. It's been said that the original was a warning and the Disturbed cover is the anger that the warning went unheeded. Just know that Disturbed is actually a metal band, if you decide to try more of their music.

When you said you'll have to listen to some of his other music I had to giggle a little. His band Disturbed is very heavy metal. Awesome, but pretty heavy. Those lip piercings aren't hard to eat with. It takes a little getting used to though. I have a lip loop that goes in just below my lower lip and loops up over the top to a ball. It's hard to eat soup with it (kinda dribbles off my lip), but I generally just move it out of the way. It can be slid to either side and tucked inside my lip if I need it out of the way. His piercings aren't even that in the way. It's basically a double labret that doesn't affect your speech or eating. The piercing hole is small and the jewelry is all to the front. The part in your mouth is generally just the post that the jewelry attaches to and the back part is flat. It will usually embed itself into the flesh somewhat so you can barely even tell it's there unless you go to remove it. They're also easy to remove/change.

@@Frakkis Yeah, mine did too so I went with a lip loop instead. Uses the same hole but it's more like an earring. Nothing to dig into the lip or gums. It's a open loop with a bead on either end so I can slide it out of the way for eating. What's really cool is that I can still attach my chin hook to the bottom when I want to. It's a claw like thing that goes from my lip and curves down to a point under my chin.

The lead singer he has some training in singing In classical I believe. And they are a group. There's sound originally is pretty heavy quite a bit of bite to it but nevertheless it is listenable. They have a new song out that's actually pretty good too doesn't have that much bite on it it is called I believe a reason to live. This one is worth checking out can't go wrong with it. It would be their new one. This why I song has quite a deep message and it also. I don't want to give away the plot LOL. I want to throw a couple of more suggestions that you might want to put them on the list if you want. When would be the live performance and it is very iconic Queen at Live Aid. Do the whole performance it is only about 23 or 24 minutes not too bad. And something totally different also is a band called Queensryche we're going to start off easy with Silent Lucidity and then we'll move on to other bigger things. All right I babbles long enough myself. I myself I am 54 years old and I think you're never too old to listen to new music to stretch The Horizon and you find something new and exciting. So the video you watched is known as the Sound of Silence Red version. It was made as a tribute to Firefighters and EMS. There is also a Green and Blue versions. I love Simon & Garfunkel's version of this song, (it reminds me of my father's taste of music). Their version is the warning of things to come. Now, Disturbed's verion is awesome. This is the oanguish that the warning was not heeded. You have to watch the original version of Disturbed's version, the imagery is more profound. then check out their performance on Conan Live, you'll be amazed beyond belief. Every I hear this song, I get emotinal as it is that good.

Disturbed is a group. The singer's name is David Draiman. If you listen to more Disturbed, just be aware that this song is not representative of their usual style. Try Inside the Fire by them, maybe. And, as for the piercings, they're gone now. They were there for a good long time, but he recently had them taken out.

The thing is that you don't need to change the lyrics, as the song is even more relevant now. People talking without speaking = texting/saying nothing of real substance or meaning. People hearing, without listening = the ignorant fools who are too wrapped up in their own politics to find some common ground with the 'other'.
