I grew up on Simon and Garfunkels original performance, so when I saw that there was a remake, a cover by a metal band, I had absolutely no interest in listening to it. How could anybody improve on the original artist? But I read a few comments under some of the videos, and it convinced me to give it a try. I was blown away! I still love the original, but it’s like comparing, I don’t know, a lullaby to a symphony maybe. S&G version is a gentle warning & Disturbed is more like an angry demand that we pay attention to the warning. Goosebumps, indeed.

It definitely was a warning back in the day when the TV was introduced…and this version is the angry version of the warning cause we do bow down and worship the “Neon God” we made…before TV we used to sit around the table and talk bout our day…nowadays we sit around the TV cause we afraid to disturb the sound of silence

Saw a reaction content creator who loved Disturbed and for whatever reason always skipped this song on his CD he played in his vehicle. For years he skipped it. When he played it for the first time he cried. Literally cried he missed out on this song for that many years.

@@setonhillstudios it is beautifully done. And apparently David was feeling quite ill, opting to sit on a stool to sing, but did amazingly even so. Such a gorgeous voice. Really enjoying your reactions….the pleasure you get from the different genres is lovely to see. This from a 63 year old Canadian who’s been a Metalhead since the genre became popular in the early 1970s… Keep up the good work!

"The Sound of Silence” comes to a close with a warning, pointedly calling out the all-consuming consumerism and using those already lost to it as an example of what’s to come if we continue to find solace in the silence. A new generation has been introduced to the iconic song, but they also may have missed out on its meaning, one that is just as important if not more so today then it was six decades ago. "The Sound of Silence" is and has been taking over everyday interactions in society. It's not often that we actually speak to one another. We text, we email. we post on Social Media etc. etc. interactions become all the more surface-level and indifference continues to grow. ~People talking without speaking ~People hearing without listening ~People writing songs that voices never share ~No one dared ~Disturb the sound of silence I love his voice. He nailed it big time. Paul Simon shared in an interview with Playboy : I used to go off in the bathroom, because the bathroom had tiles, so it was a slight echo chamber. I’d turn on the faucet so that water would run.... I like that sound, it’s very soothing to me and I’d play. In the dark. ~ Hello, darkness, my old friend ~ I’ve come to talk with you again Simon pinned most of his songs in bathrooms.

I was a HUGE fan of the original "Sounds of Silence" written by Paul Simon and released by Simon and Garfunkel in 1965. My little folk band (which never did have a name, by the way, other than "Linda and Vicki's Band") used to play and sing THAT version all the time, and I still love it. I wasn't happy when the name was altered to "Sound of Silence." (grrr) I heard about Disturbed's version when it first came out in 2015, but it wasn't until 2017 that I finally said, "OK...I'll listen, but I doubt if I'll like it!" I didn't just "like it," I fell in love with it! These days, I will listen to anything that pops up saying that it's sung by David Draiman. His voice and presentations are just wonderful. There's another version (patterned on the original), also, that I think you would love to react to -- performed by Peter Hollens and Tim Foust. It's a real "WOW!" I'll let you discover why I said that, on your own. 😀 My all-time favorite version, though, is Dan Vasc's second go at it. I have your cousin's (I'm sure I saw his name, somewhere...on Patreon, I think...?...but I can't remember it off-hand) reaction to Dan singing the Disturbed version of this song, waiting, next-in-line. Thank you VERY much for your great reaction to what I agree is truly a masterpiece. Great job! 😀
