One of my PMJ favorites is their 60s soul-style cover of Pour Some Sugar On Me by Def Leppard. So fun.

Of course being GenX this immediately brings up the movie...but I also remember the airplay and of course the video that was in heavy rotation. A banger for sure still! Rock on class of '89!

Marty Friedman, he was in a band called Cacophony with Jason Becker, who was a monster in his own right. RIP Jason. Nick Menza was the drummer. RIP Nick.

Several people mention Maceo playing with James Brown but my favourite pick of his work is with Parliament Funkadelic. I saw him fronting the JB's supporting the P Funk All Stars in the 90's. He has a fair number of albums to his credit as a band leader too.

I'm like you, Steven. I was in some weird Metallica camp, but also the real reason is Dave's voice. It's like Geddy Lee - if you're not ready for it, it's gonna knock you back a bit. It's grown on me a bit. This is my fav song that I've heard from them. They rock hard for sure! 🤘🤘 But at first glance, I thought it was Cousin It singing up there.😁

I was lucky enough to see him live for this tour in a small club also. It was incredible. Always gotta give props to Double Trouble for giving him the foundation to just go off. They also backed up Albert Cummings on one of his albums and he’s someone you should also check out. Tell It Like It Is and Blues Make Me Feel So Good.

You should check out his version of Jimi Hendrix Voo Doo Child from this El Mocambo show just amazing. The El Mocambo ( the ELMO) is a little club In Toronto holds about 650 people yet it has hosted some of the biggest names in music ( Rolling Stones U2 Blondie Elvis Costello and many more) . It was the place the big name bands went after their shows at the big arena at the time Maple Leaf Gardens. The Rolling Stones were In Toronto to record and they showed up unadvertised and unannounced and played a full night set under the name The Cockroaches back in 1977. I'm not sure if this is true or not but i have heard that Stevie had Jimi's Wah wah pedal his brother got it from Hendrix

Great reaction to the mighty Quo, but you need to stop saying Status the American way - ha ha!! It's Status Quo English pronunciation - ie Staytus Quo !!! There's much much more to hear from Quo, they are one of the biggest selling British acts of all time, over 120 million sales, and one of the greatest live bands ever. Seeing Quo at Hammersmith Odeon in the 70s was absolutely bonkers, the whole place (about 4500 people) bouncing up and down in unison for the entire gig. Happy days ! Funny you said it didn't sound like a 70s band to you. To me (who was in my teens most of the 70s) Quo was one of THE sounds of the 70s!!! Check out Caroline, Paper Plane, Roll Over Lay Down, Backwater/Just Take Me, Break The Rules, Is There a Better Way, Mystery Song, Whatever You Want, Little Lady/Most of The Time, Rain, Don't Think It Matters, and Rockin' All Over The World (their cover of John Fogerty's song). And that's just for starters. To try and explain how popular they are/were here - they opened Live Aid at Wembley with Rockin' All Over The World.

Stevie isn't an artist I have in my rotation 24/7, but every time I hear him play I just can't imagine anybody better. You can debate "well so and so does this better or that better" but if we're talking just straight up 10/10 no notes, SRV is Him.

This was back when he was fighting his demons of drugs and alcohol. He got clean a few years before he died. One of the reasons he is sweating so profusely, besides playing with every bit of his soul, is that he was borderline overdosing on cocaine. And yet, this is one of the best live shows ever recorded! RIP to the GOAT.

the irony "he is playing so CLEAN". I believe this was recorded nearthe end of his time on earth, not long after he got CLEAN. He spent many many many years baked out of his mind on Coke. Damn shame that he got clean, started playing ever better thanhe did before only to die

Saw SRV back in '80, '81, 82 at a place called Fitzgerald's in Houston about the same size as the El Macombo. He started out downstairs at the smaller showcase stage and that didn't last long lol. He quickly moved upstairs on the headliner stage! He was amazing! R.I.P SRV 🔥🤘✌

He played #13 strings which I know you know how hard it is to bend them and how much damage they do to your fingers. That’s how he got that tone nobody else can match. The Cat In The Hat With A Strat.

I used to know a man that worked at Ardent Studios in Memphis. He asked SRV's guitar tech if he could check out his guitar. Tech told him to go ahead. He told me, "I don't know how in the world he played that guitar." He said the neck was really thick and of course he mentioned those heavy gauge strings. "He had that guitar strung with rebar tie wire."

Texas Blues Seemas like double trouble was 83 or 84. that double album Double Trouble I think was recorded at this concert. Not sure there's a blues technique he doesn't employ whether playing or singing.lol He genuinely worked up a sweat. But stage lights were many times hotter than they are today. SRV was touring with his good friend Eric Clapton the night the helicopter crash in heavy fog in steep Terrain. It took the life of SRV along with on board including two of Eric Clapton's managers and bodyguard. Like how he turned his guitar after stretching the string. He busted a lot of Springs. When it happened the guitar switch was seamless and he never missed a note except for the broken string which his brother who Play Rhythm covered for him. Before joining with Stevie he played for the Fabulous Thunderbirds. Jimmie Vaughan is the one who taught Stevie how to play. 🚜🤠🐂
