The best version of this song. I can't even estimate how many times I've listened to it, and it moves me every single time. If indeed there is a God above, he put David on this earth with the sole purpose of singing this song. The lyrics are so meaningful and deep, and his voice is so damn powerful. I just can't understand how anyone can sing so angelic yet deep, raspy, and powerful all at the same time.

I've kind of have a new favorite pastime - watching reactions to this song. And I have to admit, that THIS is one of the most honest, open ones I've seen. I could see you as you became immersed in this, at times you were almost trembling in your chair, others, you appeared to be blinking back tears. I also grew up with this song, as I am a young 61 year old who has loved Disturbed for awhile now. David has that once in a millenium voice, powerful range, and stage presence that is unrivaled.

I'm the same. Every single time I hear either version live or studio they both make me cry. I'm a 56 year old man and not ashamed to cry when I hear this. I don't know how they did it but I've noticed that this song resonates strongly with most people but I've also noticed it really hits men so much more than anything else. I've seen plenty of women cry when listening to this but for us men it's not normally acceptable for us to cry but man this has really hit so many men it's amazing. And for once it really seems that 100% acceptable for us to cry. Yet the tears are both happy and sad at same time and just flow freely.

Same. I first heard this coming out of my son's bedroom when it was released 5 years ago and I abandoned all my evening plans to research this song, the band, interviews, reactions, everything. Young people ask me what my favourite song is. I tell them I can't get past Disturbed's The Sound of Silence. Nothing comes close. Like the guys says, it's on another level.

@Reischa Parker Hey, I just happened to have the day off, and on KZbin now. I think that both you and your daughter would love a hard rockin FAMILY band called Liliac. It's like the Partridge Family revisted, only BETTER. They've got some extremly impressive Ronnie James Dio covers, and other great covers, too, but even more impressive is their own original stuff, too. Check out their song called Mars. This is a brothers/sisters band, and very young, too, but very good. Just search Liliac.

When I saw Disturbed in concert, David Draiman was sick, and told us he was sick. He apologized for what he felt was sure to be a subpar performance. He sounded just as good as he did in recordings. He was recovering from sickness on Conan also, and had a 101⁰ fever. He was disappointed in his performance here but I think everyone agrees it was awesome. What a voice that is powerful, great range and full of emotion. ♥️

There’s a folkloric character in Africa called the “town crier”, which is someone who speaks to the village when danger is coming. The town crier doesn’t scream, he doesn’t yell. The town crier just walks through the village speaking, and he has such a powerful hypnotic authoritative voice that people can’t help but to stop anything they’re doing and just listen to this commanding voice. It raises over any other voice. And it's the voice that the town would rise up to hear, as if they were being called by some powerful force that tunes their minds and souls and shuts down any other thought. That’s David Draiman. His voice is pure soul and will, powerful and with such authority. He means every word, and he makes you feel it in your guts. He touches your deepest strings as soon as he opens his mouth. You feel like you're being called. And this version is outstanding. Some people say you can listen to the original song as many times as you want, but you never hear the song until you hear this version, and that’s when you hear the song for the first time. Some may agree others may not. But I love what you said about the song being about the TV. I do understand that. And I think you're absolutely right. And we can apply it to cellphones now. I remember life before cellphones. It was different.
@ryanbtryan6514 жыл бұрын
The song is about music and the disconnect between the musicians, the writers, and the audience. Watch the video. It's obvious in the lyrics and in the video. Which is ironic because if u haven't herd this version that in some way you are being described within the lyrics of " The Sound of Silence"

You nailed it. I come from a family with lots of talent and a VERY critical Operatic coloraturo Soprano and even at 96, she just LOVES David's voice and HIS rendition of this song. I've heard he is classically trained and a cantor but I don't know if that is true or not. Regardless, his range, power and control are out of this world.

I remember when this song came out in 1964 and S&G asked us please to pay attention. 50 years later David is saying "YOUR NOT PAYING ATTENTION !!!" 1964 a poetic plea,... 2020 a passionate rage that no one is listening. And maybe they never will,........... how many of us after listening to this performance will shut off our laptops, shut off your TV, shut down your "smart phone" and look to find someone to simply talk to ? To shut off all the electronic distractions in our numbered days and learn once again or maybe for the first time to talk and more importantly listen to another human being. If you are not there yet, listen to the song AGAIN !!!!!! Slainte P.S. I am shuting down my electonic toys for a week, I have my guitar and I am looking to busk on the street once again and engage in communications with anyone. Thanks David ! ;-)

- The original is pure poetry and melancholy. Draiman takes you on an epic journey! -Draiman covers roughly two-and-a-half octaves from bottom to top. His vocals are so distinctive. -Disturbed had been nominated for a GRAMMY for Best Rock Performance for their rendition of "The Sound of Silence" while appearing on Conan. -David Draiman: "The fact that I was sick as a dog (laughs). I remember I was definitely fighting something off, but it was a cool experience. It was cool performing with an actual orchestra. It was really vibing and the mood helped, I think, enhance the delivery. The stars just aligned that night and everything went right." - How Paul Simon Felt To Have Disturbed Transform Classic Song to Heavy Metal kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKWxl6qlgKljjqM -

David Draiman has always been a firm proponent of never recording something you can't perform in a live setting, and this just goes to show you - the man can definitely walk the walk! I'm a bit on the fence about the two versions of Disturbed's rendition of this song. They are both just so fucking good! However, I gotta lean a bit towards the studio version, simply because of the accompanying video; the imagery in the video gives a glimmer of hope for the future that you lose in the live version. But that's the only reason. I'll happily stop whatever unimportant thing I might be doing at the time to give my full attention to either version if I chance upon it. Possibly the best cover of any song I've ever heard. Angelina Jordan's cover of Screaming Jay Hawkin's 'I Put A Spell On You', when she was only 9 years old (?!!!) comes in tied with this one for top spot on my all-time favorite covers list. Just took a New York minute to go back through your previous posts, and it would seem you haven't gotten to that one yet. You really should. It's every bit as impressive, in it's own way, as this song. Subscribing because of your reaction to these two, and in the hopes that you'll give this one a shot as well. Here's the link to it: Angelina Jordan, 'I Put A Spell On You' : kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKipnaJ5hb2tedU Best be seated when watching this one. Less distance for your jaw to drop. : -)

Gifted. Let's see all these singers with songs out for listening sing without superficial technology to make it looks like they sing great. David doesn't need any help at all. He's pure. Can't say that about most musicians. Especially these days. Isn't it disappointing to go to a concert and hear how different a group sounds than what they record for what they hoped they would really like to sound like. Then in concert your let down because you realize a lot of them really rely on technology to make them sound better than what they really are. David is the real deal.
