So glad you felt it too. My son sent this to me and at 71 years of age, a 23 year Marine Corps veteran, 2 years continuous in combat in Vietnam in the late 60s ... I cried. Simon and Garfunkel sang out the warning but David Draiman drives home the rage and helplessness of humanity for not having listened to that warning!

Never done this before. We are the same age. Children of the 60’s who were there for Simon & Garfunkel’s original version of the masterpiece which has been my favorite song since it was first released. Your comments touched my soul. I can’t listen to Disturbed’s version without the tears streaming down by the middle of the song. No matter how many times I hear it the memories of the past 70 plus years stream by and I wonder what we’ve learned. In any event good luck brother and thank you for your service - although “thank you” is hardly enough to describe how I feel.

I've always loved Simon and Garfunkel and this was one of my favorites after Bridge Over Troubled Waters. When I heard Disturb version it became my favorite. You can't help but think about what he's saying and the feeling he puts behind it. Makes me cry, makes me think people should cut off TVs, games, and phones and just talk and listen to each other. To come together as the human race and not all the nonsense that's going on in the world today. Too many people killing each other, too many children going hungry, too much political bullshit! God bless those that have served this country and especially those that have died for it. We shouldn't let any of it be in vain.

To answer your questions, Disturbed is actually a four-piece band, their singer being David Draiman. He has that effect on people when it comes to his singing, especially with this song in particular. Fun fact, his grandfather is/was the head cantor at the main synagogue of Jerusalem itself, so he absolutely was born with this gift of singing.

I've heard this version at least 100xs easily and it still brings me to tears each and every time. I can't even imagine hearing this live. Sierra Sugar the only reason it doesn’t bring mento such tears anymore is really because of overplay. That, and also I share the exact same sentiment being shared in this version: that nothing has changed and it’s worth being pissed about. But it is still a gorgeous piece of work and frankly had redefined Disturbed as much more than a metal band.

Laurie Beth H - ha! If you decide to listen to slipknot please do this. Listen to these 2 songs back to back: Vermilion pt2 and then one of devil in I/psychosocial/before I forget. One of the things I love the most about rock in general is its range. You can easily listen to it for an hour and never hear 2 songs about the same subject or perspective. Few musical forms do this to my knowledge.

you know, the fact that bands make angry and violent sounding music it doesn't mean they're an angry & violent band. For example - Suicide Silence have a song called You Only Live Once which sounds very violent but has a positive message. The band sold Mitch Lucker's (the previous vocalist which tragically died in 2012) shirt that he wore in the music video for 800$ and bought toys for kids in Christmas with the money. The metal community is the most loving & dedicated one, despite all the stigmas...there's no "beautiful side" to metal, metal is beautiful.

I've seen them twice, both times i was lucky to be right smack in front... and im not a religious person, but when David Draiman tells you to put your fist in the air... all there is, is a sea of fista. he has the presence of a god. And it sounds crazy, but as a black chick, when i was 14yrs (in 2001), hearing Down with the Sickness changed my entire perception and possibly the course of my life. I mean... i could've been a Drake or bieber fan.

This is my favorite version of this song by far! I’ve listened to disturbed since I was in my late 20’s. When this song appeared I wasn’t sure. Then I heard the song and tears and emotion flowed. I was floored. I’m so happy for you that you were able to receive the same gift. The song is Amazing to say it mildly. Now At 47 I’ve never heard a performance of this song that even comes close to this man.

No lies, I freaking CRIED when I heard this version for the first time. Simon & Garfunkle's original, while great, just had this kinda spaced-out quality to it. Like, they were acknowledging that the world is falling apart, but they've kind of resigned themselves to their depressing fate. Draiman and Disturbed are saying "Yeah, this sucks, but I'll be DAMNED if I'm just gonna sit here and do nothing about it."

His name is David Draiman, and he is as spiritually deep as his cover of *The Sound of Silence* He STOPPED A SHOW to save a woman's life as she was being crushed by the crowd in "The pit." He honored her by having her on stage as he continued to perform. I am a messenger through music. I have made people laugh, cry, and even change negative attitudes to positive... but I am easily forgotten, and that's okay. *David Draimon* can NEVER be forgotten. He was alone in the studio to record this song. He was so broken, his band had to make sure he was okay. THAT is *David Draiman*

I have seen any number of KZbinrs react to this song. It always makes me chuckle as they have no idea of the wrath that is coming their way. However, I think this is probably the most genuine and reactive of them all. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing your raw emotion with us all. That is exactly what I felt the first time I heard this cover on the radio. You have a new subscriber!

I never used to watch reaction videos and then I watched this one. This is by far one of, if not the best reaction video I have ever seen! The genuine feelings and the way you are moved makes me come back and re watch it. There is something so special about watching someone be so moved by what they are seeing! Fantastic video, you rock!

Disturbed is an American heavy metal band from Chicago, formed in 1994. The band includes vocalist David Draiman, guitarist/keyboardist Dan Donegan, bassist John Moyer and drummer Mike Wengren. Draiman, Donegan and Wengren have been involved in the band since its inception, with Moyer replacing former bassist Steve Kmak, first as session performer in 2003, and then officially in 2005. The band has released seven studio albums, five of which have consecutively debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.[1] Disturbed went into hiatus in October 2011, during which the band's members focused on various side projects, and returned in June 2015, releasing their first album in four years, Immortalized in August 2015. They also released two live albums, Music as a Weapon II in February 2004 and Disturbed: Live at Red Rocks in November 2016, which was recorded on August 18, 2016, at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado.

David Michael Draiman. This guy was actually an Administrator for a Healthcare Facility before he hooked up with Disturbed. Can you believe it?

I have heard Disturbed' rendition of this probably a hundred times, and it bring me to tears every time. Such a beautiful song, and such a powerful presentation of it!

The sound is not the power.. The sound is only the conduit.. Its power of the words within the tone, to reach the darkness, within the soul, where true power lies. Even when I first heard the 2 men whose voices I heard sing this first when I was very young, and felt the words come from them, I knew it had power. Disturbed tapped that power. They knew there was something more to be unleashed. And to see another feel that power makes me shake. Cause I can feel it as I watch.

James Row the true power is within the light, not the darkness.

Spleenlicker Maginticutty You are misunderstanding..I said "the power is in reaching the darkness".. I didn't say it was the darkness.. We all have a darkness within. Try to read my words with less judgement and more comprehension.
