Seven is such a sick movie, I love it! The villain (despite Kevin Spacey) to this day gives me chills. Best thing about him is what’s not pointed out that much, but is brilliant world building, and that’s the city. The city is a terrible place, old people get stabbed, people throw stuff at cops chasing the killer to shut them up, and everyone’s bleak attitude towards other people and the law, it’s the worst place to live- Gotham but real. Then this one guy comes along, and does this twisted stuff and in what he says, “you can’t tap someone on the shoulder to get their attention, you have to bash in their skull with a hammer to do it.” And he does that, not just to his victims, the cops but the city too. He makes everyone look at him and say, “Oh, sh@t, we made that.” That city made John Doe, and makes they worry that more people like John- or worse may came along. So, in a sick, twisted way, John Doe kinda saved the city by making it look at what it can create, and does a reality check to it and makes it want to change for the better. I LOVE IT.

0:37 I mean, at the end of the movie he calls himself the sin of envy. Him getting shot by the cop was a part of his plan where his sin of envy of the cop's life was punished by death, and the cop had to live with the consequences of his sin of wrath.

I can one-up your being scared of The Mask with something even more lame. When I was little I was scared of the part in The Muppet's Christmas Carol where the doorknocker turns into the old guy muppet's face and screams. I would hide under a blanket or behind the furniture during that part of the film, which I insisted on watching multiple times because other than that I was cool with it and the literal personification of death that shows up later was apparently fine.

The first time I partook in the devils lettuce I fell asleep and woke up to the screaming scene from Pandorum, with no one in the room. I still to this day have never watched it. I have asked around on many sites for a movie I walked in on as a child where they're cutting open the cast over a dead persons face and this horrible ball of crazy flesh pops out straight up and that's all I saw and it's still imprinted in my mind. (And no, it wasn't the OG The Thing, it was like a b list sci fi movie). Also the scene where they take the organs out of the corpse from Monkey Bones and he reanimates and wraps duct tape around himself HAUNTS me. That scene scarred me for years.

as someone who has never watched The Mask or know anything about it, I am more confused than anything. but if it makes you feel better Jim Carrey is in fact insane. and yeah, I can totally get behind being scared of a scene when most don't. I was afraid of Zurg from Toy Story 2 for the longest time, and he wasn't even the main antagonist. my fear has mostly subsided, but still even the mention of him gives me chills.

hi! not a psych major but a psych minor. i think the reason the jim carrey scene might disturb you is cause jim carrey is already a very animated man in his acting, so he might fall under "uncanny valley" if you aren't used to seeing people as animated as him, but also because i think the balloons turning into a gun subverts your expectations of what a balloon is supposed to do- as a child, a balloon is something fun and nice that you get on your birthday, so the idea that something like that might suddenly be deadly would naturally cause distress.

Well my guess on why you got scared by the balloon animal scene in The Mask is probably due the fact that it started with The Mask making balloon animals all normally until he gets to his favorite where it starts as a normal balloon which he shaped it into a tommy gun then is changes into an actual tommy gun. My guess you got disturbed by who his power can go from fun and goofy to HOLY SHIT HE CAN KILL ME WITH A SMILE ON HIS FACE! But that’s my guess why that scene disturbed you. Btw that egg part made go WTF.

Young you probably thought the exaggerated facial features and disproportional teeth were scary. It's not weird, most kids have a fear of anything that is technically "uncanny valley," even in the slightest.
