BaarakaAllaahu Feek. The ustadh is right. Though, there are some who portray the way of the Salaf and do Tamyee, their own Ijtihaad, misinterpret or find a Fatwa to suit their actions.

The enemies of Islam are greatly benefiting from this disunity and infighting. Iblis is laughing all the way to the bank. Barakalahu feek my brother for your advice and effort.

Assalamualaikum Brother, What are the foundations on unity/disunity? As a layperson, I cannot tell what the line is. For example, people say we only unite on correct Aqeedah. What are the standards for this? How would one go and study this? I know sometimes people are too lenient and some are too strict and think only they and their sheikh are guided. Where is the middle ground? What journey can I embark on of knowledge to learn this middle path?

May Allah bless you and guide you. I'd refrain from generalizing. As this could lead to harming the innocent. However, to be just, this rightfully applies to many of their "associates". Nevertheless, I've had the opportunity to communicate with our brother Hassan Somali (May Allah bless him) and he adhered to the advice provided and understands the harmfulness of splitting amongst the people. Does he correct, admonish, and advise his "associates"? I can't confirm. But, on the other hand, I've spoken to too many of general people from their "communities", and they'll reject unity amongst the people of the sunnah (or whoever claim to be salafi besides themselves), no matter if you convey the message gently, harshly, provide the speech of the salaf, the book of Allah and the sunnah, or even contacting the scholars directly. They'll most likely reject the apparent truth outrightly, and apply new methodologies that are absent from Islam. Sadly enough, even if you contact a scholar from the people of the sunnah in front of them, they'll reject. Why? Because many have abandoned the scholars, generally speaking and made themselves scholars. The best outcome would require individualized advice for each and every member of their "association". However, be cautious, I've advised an innumerable amount of them, and they'll accept your advice and absolutely agree with you when you're alone with them. However, once they go back to their "associates" they'll change their face and act as if it never happened. May Allah protect the people of the sunnah, and grant us all uprightness. Ameen!

Many of the people who insist upon calling themselves Salafi see themselves above the rest of AhlusSunnah wal Jamma, and this has created arrogance and intolerance and sectarianism in their hearts and behavior towards other Muslims. Even amongst themselves you see constant infighting and harm. True misguidance.
