I’m currently building an EM Gauge model of Burdale, and me and my mate went up there last Sunday for a look around. The gap in the platform is for the point rodding and ground frame. It was boarded over by a wooden plank, and there was a small corrugated metal hut which housed the point rodding as seen in one of your photos. The other platform is also a loading dock 🙂 That small hut you saw half way down the line is also just a lineside hut, the two smaller ones up near the quarry are blast huts, for workers to take cover in when they were blasting as rocks flew everywhere. The small pile of bricks near the tunnel is where there was a house and lineside hut. These were for the guys employed by the railway to maintain the tunnel 🙂 Great video! Thank you for sharing 🙂

I've also been tracing this line recently while cycling the area. I've been up the hill at 8:30 a few times and always been frustrated I can see the tunnel portal from the road. I love the dry valleys of the Wolds because they all look like disused railways to me because of they way they snake through the hills with really flat bottoms. Just yesterday I rode from Fimber Halt in a loop around Sledmere looking for sections of the track there but very little evidence remains.

Yep. There are a few bridges, cuttings and embankments. Next to zero sleepers and chairs and a couple of old broken signal poles. Not a lot left at all

Excellent video from memory that hole would likely be the location of the ground frame and the concrete slab looks like its the location of were the lock up goods/parcel warehouse would be there is a a picture of that somewhere including the top of the steps coming up :) keep up the videos :)

The other platform is goods and from what my grandad told me it was just flat with a battered embankment at the rear on to the road way :)
@newmotorcycleguy Жыл бұрын
I would agree on that. I’ve been sent all sorts of photos of it now!

Was the concrete base near the platform a base for a crane for unloading goods.
@newmotorcycleguy11 ай бұрын
It may have been. But I’m not certain this station had a crane. I do have some plans of the station and don’t recall seeing one. Maybe I should take another look 👍🏻

Great video. That gate on the tunnel should be locked as its very dangerous in there due to collapse. I think the Birdsall estate are responsible for it?
@newmotorcycleguy Жыл бұрын
it seems a long way from that estate i dont know who own it.
