Back in the early 80s my brother learned Southern style Mantis from a HK Chinese student whose grandfather was the founder Lau Soei. He makes Dit Da Jow and Dit Da Pills which can be taken for internal injuries, also Bok Gwag Jow for healing and conditioning bones.

Fantastic Style, bit of chow gar I believe (i'm biased of course- Mike ) I had many happy years learning southern mantis so use a fair few of our medicines myself. Doug's Dit Da Jow is a good brew and I'm not saying that just because I work here! Link here shop.ensomartialarts.com/enso-martial-arts-shop-dit-da-jow-liniment.html if anyone wants to try for themselves.

Woah, that's crazy, because normally you are constantly advised to NEVER put jow in your mouth or get it in cuts. That's a feat, respect out for you and your family.

@Walking_Death666 What do you mean? The Chinese student from HK who is related to the founder was a quiet man and did not want to teach, he came to UK to study. He was introduced to my brother against his wishes, my brother pested him doing his shopping and chores and eventuallly he relented. What he taught really works and he knows moves that is not normally taught. My brother introduced him to the Hung Gar kung fu Sifu in our city's China Town who runs the town's lion dance and agreed to a spar behind closed door, it last 3 seconds.

fyi - The alcohol, in the Jow, helps thicken the skin. It also lightly numbs pain receptors near the skins surface and helps remove bruises. It has been used (world wide) as a massage rub for a very long time. Various herbs were added by various cultures, to enhance the effect. zheng gu shui is great, but has progressively gotten more and more expensive (over the last 20 years or so). They also (apparently) changed the ingredients, when they moved from the glass bottles to the plastic ones. It is still good though. And the original formula does float around online. Peace.

Doesn't the poisonous ingredients like tao ren do all the pain numbing and blood moving? Im curious because I never asked my sifu or shi-gung those specific properties of the 12 herbs, or even the alcohol, I just let him rub it in. I'm learning medicine in my curriculum now so this helps too.

@@gerrekurquidez3044 Perhaps they add to the effect? I'm not sure of the science behind the herbal ingredients. I was just talking about some common facts with Alcohol and how it interacts with the epidermis / skin layers. People using muscle rubs have known this through the ages. Another fact I know, about the resin ingredients in Dit Da Jow (that will not be known 'generally'). This is not from Eastern medicine; the resin (forgetting herbal medicinal effects) forms a layer over the skin (especially when built up with multiple applications). When the resin dries, it pulls up the upper skin layers. This, allows bruises to more easily be flushed by the bodies system. The same thing can be done with athletes tape (or even sellotape/masking tape :) Place the tape over a bruise (for say 24+hrs), then remove it. The bruise, under where the tape was, will be gone! The reason; The tape pulls up the upper skin layers. And allows fluids to flow more freely ..flushing out the bruise. Today, this is a common hospital/athlete technique for removing bruises. On a side note: Look up Surgical Spirit. it does nothing for bruises ..but, it does specifically thicken skin. Some people use it for a few months, before doing any impact training on their hands (so they have thicker skin when performing impact training). Kind of like wearing gloves before learning to strike. Oh, and remember to moisturise from time to time :) Peace.
