@JamieTrull I'm thinking of going with Roll. We are moving to S corp status Jan 1 and it's just 2 of us to pay. What I'm curious about is if it will track and pay self employment taxes, income tax, medicare taxes, and social security taxes for employees?

The only follow up question I have is the ease of switching. I have QB online because the bookkeeper I worked with in the past (when I had a different and larger company) loved it and she used it. In my current starting business, I'm still too small and I'm price sensitive at this time. I'd love to switch from QBOnline to Xero but I'm intimidated by the prospect of switching. Would love to see you cover that maybe in a future vid please. Thank you for always providing such great info! Much appreciated.

Finally a non biased breakdown. Thank you. I am a new business owner, Electrical Contractor and I have very little experience with this side of business. I do residential and commercial service, I will be going to multiple jobs per week. Sending estimates and invoices and collecting payments. There may be some inventory but usually material is bought per job. What software would you recommend for this type of business?

Thank you so much. This is exactly what I needed. I'll be transitioning from QB Online to Xero. I think I am going to import all my banking information so that I can use Xero for 2024 taxes. I am assuming that you can categorize expenses in Xero similar to how you can in QB, is that correct?

Which most basic system do you recommend for predominately tax purposes on a 1099 recipient where the transactions upload directly connection to bank accounts and all you need to do is attache receipts and track business expenses? I will only need to reports of expenses for taxes

Thank you for a great video. I have been wanting to leave QuickBooks for a long time now but like you I couldn't find a good alternative. I own a small business and I maybe use up to a 1/4 of what I pay for with QuickBooks. Quick question though, I couldn't find anything about reports. Yes - there are SO MANY REPORTS! I would say Xero has the most, pretty similar to what QBO offers and easy to run in the reports tab!

I don't make invoices or proposals. I only sell digital products so I have no need for inventory tracking. I just need something super simple to track my expenses and income so I can easily pull all of that for taxes at the end of the year. Also as an Scorp I'll have to use payroll to pay myself. I like the idea of it pulling all of my information for me and wrapping it up in a neat little report for my accountant. Quickbooks is just to overwhelming for me. I'm really liking the way Freshbooks looks. It seems good for my visual way of thinking and it seems to also partner with Gusto for payroll. Do you think Freshbooks would be a good fit for me?

Definitely! If you like the vibe of Freshbooks, for sure go with it! It's much less overwhelming compared to QBO.

Sorry about that! Both Xero and FreshBooks allow you to record transactions, but they approach it differently. Xero has a more traditional accounting approach, offering a 'cash coding' feature and a bank reconciliation screen where you can manually enter and reconcile transactions if needed. FreshBooks is designed more for simplicity and focuses on invoicing and expense tracking. While you can enter transactions manually in FreshBooks, it doesn't have a traditional register or journal entry interface like Xero. Hope that helps clarify!"

Yep both include a balance Sheet and P&L!

The Simple Start or Essentials do all the common reports? Ability to manage and pay bills? Very limited information I am finding

Yep both will do a P&L, Balance Sheet, etc. As far as bill management, I believe you need at least Essentials for that.

I have a business that is service-based but we operate like a cost of goods. All-in-one invoice for a project where we take a deposit, do work and send the completed project when we received a final deposit. We have to pay other service based contractors and we keep the net. Would Freshbooks still be a good option? On taxes it'll be a COGS business but there's no inventory.

Hi. I have been using QB desktop for 23 years and it is so expensive now. I would like to switch to online but an wondering if I should try one of these other options instead. I have a couple questions, I own a home child care business and my husband, a home based Upholstery shop. We have both been using the same program, just with different companies, within the program. We also use the program to track our house bank register/ledger. If I switch to online QB is it still going to let me have 3 companies, within the same account? Also, we really only use minimal features. We both invoice, my husband does estimates, both use the register/ledger feature and then we use reports for tax purposes at the end. We do Turbo Tax also, but the intergration process has never worked correctly because we are amatures and set up our accounts as such and they don't read well, LOL. Do you have any suggestions please. Thanks.

Yes- Desktop has gotten completely insane! Unfortunately, all of the online softwares will make you have a separate account for each business. That said, I can talk to my contacts about bulk buys. For example, I know I could get you 50% off for 2+ companies for the first year of Quickbooks Online. I may be able to get a bulk deal from my contacts at Xero as well if you are interested in that one. Thank you for getting back to me. I'm not to sure what to do now. There are specific programs for home child care centers, so I might find one of those since we will have to have our own now. I'm really angry with Intuit at the moment and I'm thinking of finding a new tax software too. I would have been lost without your info so thanks so much.

I have a small business I don't really have invoices. I have Van billing which is per day and send at end of month. I don't deal with the public just school districts. I need to keep track of expenses and I have payroll. What do you suggest? I have quickbooks and it is more than I need. Plus I have more problems with it than I should. When I call for assistance I cannot understand their representative and it takes hours to fix.

Either Freshbooks or Xero I think are a bit easier than QBO. That said, you could also outsource your bookkeeping and keep QBO. In my opinion, QBO is built more for those who will have a bookkeeper helping them and less so for small business owners themselves, which leads to confusion. Their support is not great either.
