You've really helped me Ro. While I dont suffer from anorexia, you have helped me fight my bulimia for months. I've been watching your content since your first video, and while I don't comment on every video I just want to say thank you. I still have a way to go, but today I ate heavy food and kept saying "food is fuel" because of you. And I can happily say I did not purge after repeating it multiple times. The urge was there but I kept thinking about your progress and I want to get better. I love you so much. I'm 22 and my family doesn't want to understand how hard this is for me. Thank you for being on KZbin and being open.

a mindset that helps me is thinking of calories as a little army. like every single calorie is a solider going to heal and mend all the damaged parts of my body. edit: guys - tonight I have officially started eating. it's still difficult to wrap my mind over the word "recovery". it's a big word, and hard to apply to myself. but I told my guardian to hold myself accountable (i've never told anyone, not even counselors, psychiatrists, or doctors). and i've began eating at a safer level (still limited for a bit to avoid refeeding syndrome. but dramatically more than I used to, and it is only going to increase). it feels detached and unreal. thank you for reading.

I’m glad that you mentioned about eating disorders not just being about weight. I’ve always been naturally very slim even though I generally eat quite a lot and I remember going to the doctors for something years ago and she made a comment about me being skinny and said if I didn’t put on weight then she would refer me to an anorexia specialist. I just thought that was such a damaging thing to say to someone. And it actually made me really conscious about my weight for a few years and I would try to eat more to put weight on 🤯 it took me a while to realise that it didn’t really matter as long as I was healthy.
@gracee60083 жыл бұрын
Yes! I relate so much. Many people, including doctors, don't believe that I have an eating disorder because my weight is "healthy" and doesn't fluctuate much. But I know that my thoughts are disordered.
@sof_trackbeast3 жыл бұрын
Yes me too, I have always been considered underweight (due to skinny genetics) but once got a really bad chest infection and asked my doctor how to gain weight back but he told me to either to eat more McDonald’s or go to an ED clinic. Went to the ED clinic, and they said I was anorexic cause I was so skinny, banned me from all exercise and made me eat an extreme one size fits all weight gain diet. I became extremely ill because of the weight gain diet but wasn’t even given advice because my symptoms were ‘just anorexia talking’. I wasn’t allowed to play football with my friends, do athletics, take part in fun after school sports clubs with my friends. Couldn’t even sleep because I was up all night with stomach pain. I was discharged due to the pandemic, so couldn’t do anything fun then either. Now (2 and a half years later) i am finally starting to play sports again, even though I’ve basically forgotten how to work in a team, am defensive about everything (instinctive from being bullied by ED clinic, parents, doctors and camhs) and don’t really know how to socialise anymore. Skinny shaming needs to get talked about as it is very real and life destroying.

I’m the opposite many doctors say I don’t have anorexia because I’m not skinny enough or my BMI is not bad enough
@sof_trackbeast3 жыл бұрын
@@autumn9921 then your doctors are crap. Tell them it’s an eating disorder you have, not a weight disorder. BMI was created for white men of average height and moderate activity level [basically about 20% of the population at the most] and was actually used to measure whole populations, not individuals. Therefore it is irrelevant and the fact that your doctors using it is another red flag. Gather all the bs things he said into an note/file for evidence, then show your parents the file and tell them about it. Hope this helps!

I hate fast fashion so much and I don't want to support it, but since I started recovery my body has changed massively and none of my clothes fit my anymore (which is good!). I need to build my wardrobe back up and I just don't have the money to do that entirely sustainably. While of course the impact of individuals can be massive, it's the industry that is the problem and I refuse to demonise myself for buying clothes in my budget. That being said, vinted tends to have things second hand a lot cheaper than depop if anyone does want to buy second hand

Even though I’m recovered from BED I still had a moment of thinking I “should” eat a dairy free yogurt instead of a bagel because I don’t know carbs or something?? But I’m recovered now so I don’t do food rules. I do what I’m craving and what my body asks for - plus extra veggies where I can to make sure I get good nutrition. And I was craving a bagel with cream cheese and dried cherries. I am going to bed now satisfied and feeling so much gratitude for finally being able to say I’m recovered from BED and food doesn’t have power over me now. At all. It’s wonderful. You are literally a beam of light in my life, and I could never thank you enough for what you have helped me achieve xx Btw, have you got any tips for moving off of a set meal plan? I really wanna challenge myself to eat more intuitively but I'm so scared

I agree weigh ins cause more anxiety and causes more overthinking about what you eat in the days leading up to it etc, plus the fear of judgement by the people doing the weighing! Agree less weighing at home is also a good idea but yes the occasional check is probably wise xx. Weighing self really can unnecessarily ruin your day!

Just had a grannysmith apple 🍏 with peanut butter. It’s a big fear food of mine bc I can easily overeat it but I had it as midnight snack to honor my mental hunger and I’m so proud for not binging after. It really satisfied me and it feels so good going to bed and not hungry. You’re a shining light on this world and I can’t express to you how much you’re videos help me. Sending you lots of love and support from Guatemala! 🤍🤍🤍🇬🇹🇬🇹

I had a problem with food a couple of years but after not being able to sleep for years because of the hunger I decided that I should take better care of my mental and physical health (also the doctor told me many times that I was severe underweight) I'm so happy to see someone else getting controll over her own life you go Ro. (Sorry for my bad english it's not my first language also love from Suriname)

Your videos are inspiring Ro! Future video idea challenging different lunches or different lunch ideas? sandwiches are such a "typical" lunch and I know for me branching out and having "left over" foods for dinner is terrifying but also probably something that would make life more free and less ridged

Love this. You are glowing! Your skin and hair looks amazing. So good to see your journey to a healthy you 💗 P.S peanut butter is less sticky if you butter or margarine the toast first and just add a bit less peanut butter.

Thats interesting what you said about wanting to be a nurse instead of a psychologist! When I recovered from anorexia at 19 I went to uni to do psychology, but ended up dropping out due to other mental health problems. Now, 10 years later I am re-training as a mental health nurse due to the patient contact as you said - psychology is very theory based and as a nurse you can start helping people instantly! You can still do some therapy training after the mental health nursing course too, which is what I want to do!
