Dithmarschen is a nice area, close to where I live. Get your fresh shrimp there to peel yourself as a snack. The most used word is "Baaaah" since there are quite a lot of sheep, keeping the grass cropped and the ground on the levees compacted. Nowhere near Saxony, but close to Denmark, so very used to foreigners.

So yes Dithmarschen is mainly "Farmland" most of germany's Sauerkraut comes from Dithmarschen. Ditmarschen has also a very nice coastline with a few Beautifull tourist towns Like Büsum Sankt Peter-Ording. Dithmarschen is very Flat we usually say "it's so flat you can look out of your Window on Monday to see who's coming on the weekend."

If you want to learn something about German history, then you should check out the Teutoburg Wald in Nordrhein Westfalen! 9 years after the birth of Jesus, there was a battle between the Germans and the Romans! 10,000 Romans against a few hundred Germans. When you come to Germany you can look at the battlefield in the Teutoburger Wald! The battle between germans and romans is called the Varusschlacht in german!

00:40 Schlumpfhausen is probably a troll, at least i only know it from "Die Schlümpfe" which is a cartoon about blue creatures with hats and pants that live in Schlupfhausen and a weird man trying to do something with them. Interesting to learn something about smaller towns, i never heard of it, but also probably on 99% of towns in Germany, even if i came around rather much.
@Bauer-ke6lp4 жыл бұрын
You had a small misconception, Dithmarschen is not a village but a county (Kreis). The aerial shots you looked at where from different villages in that area. But it can't be dense populated if the whole area has only 133 thousand residents.

Man that's were I come from! Infos in this comment ^^ btw. the ad at 2:40 killed me. :D 8:03 is my hometown, it's Meldorf. Dunno what "Mecklenburg" does in the description, thats bullshit its a whole other "Bundesland". The Church in Meldorf is Called a Dom (pronounced with a loooong o in the middle), like the one in Köln, it's a bit smaller but about 400 years older than the one in Köln. It is in fact about 1200 Years old and got several facelifts about the centuries, there was even a time where it was more like a bunker. Trischen is a small island and the only island that is owned by Dithmarschen. Thing is that this island is so sandy that it is moving towards the coast. There are old maps indicating it has been much further out some hundred years ago. At the rate that it is moving now it will be in the Meldorfer Hafen (the haven of Dithmarschen) in around 100 years. Heide has btw. the secound biggest Marketplace in Europe. Burg is a very small town in Dithmarschen, not worth seeing anyway and very conservative people down there. Better stick with Meldorf, Heide and Marne and maybe Brunsbüttel if you want to see something there. There is also an prehistoric park in Albersdorf called Steinzeitpark Albersdorf were you can visit graves and towns that were build from the first humans in that area or were you can stay for some days and life like a Neanderthaler (prehistoric human). Thats fun and very interesting, you will build tools, cook bread and meat and gather the stuff you need for surviving. In Schleswig Holstein in general there is a lot of Danisch and Viking History, just google "Haithabu" thats an old Viking town found there that is in its original state with boats and everything. Schlumpfhausen is the town were the Smurfs are comming from, just the german version, someone trolled you on that.

You are confusing Lower Saxony and Saxony. The far-right Saxony is in East Germany. The reason for the two Saxonies is that in the 12th century or so the Saxon ruler rebelled against the emperor and had his title revoked and moved east. "Peasant republic" isn't an insult. It just means that the peasants elected their own leaders and judges. Rather than having a feudal overlord they had to pay stuff to. They had a duke on paper, but in practice he didn't have any authority. It was pretty progressive for the time

Hello I am a little late, but I am from a small village in Dithmarschen. Dithmarschen is a region with a few villages and small city's with about 10k people living there. The landscape is pretty flat and most of the landscape ist at about 10 meter over sea-level. The buildings you saw were ones of the old side of the city Meldorf. Another thing is, that Dithmarschen is NOT part of Saxony. It is part of Schleswig Holstein, the tip of Germany. I hope you read this and it may clear some points up for you. Greets from Dithmarschen

Perhaps interesting for you: the Luftwaffe NCO school is in Heide, where basic training for NCO candidates and English language training for NCOs are carried out. The NCO school is divided into two locations, Appen and Heide, both in Schleswig-Holstein. In Appen, NCOs and candidates receive the further training that they need as superiors. There is also a USAF instructor as part of an exchange program. There are impressions here: www.bundeswehr.de/de/organisation/luftwaffe/organisation-/luftwaffentruppenkommando/unteroffizierschule-der-luftwaffe facebook.com/Bundeswehr.SchleswigHolstein/videos/908708172616370/ Greetings from a NCO of the GAF

`i have lived there many years in Meldorf. Meldorf is beautiful with the historic heart in the middle of the town. Just 11 km from the beach. Filled with lovely people and good bakers and other food. The old church in the center of Meldorf is from the 12th century and is built in a gothic style. It is said that there are secret tunnels that went from the church to houses, as the pagans in that time were not pleased about the Christian overtaking. It is not only a peasant county but also a rebel country :) With their spirit, they were able to defeat the army. An outcry was heard in all over Europe as many aristocratic houses from Schleswig Holstein were without an heir. The Battle cry was: WAr die Gar die Bur di kummt. ( Be aware soldiers the farmer is coming). If the Dithmarschners are upset with authorities the cry is still heard. It is also known to have the biggest cabbages field in Europe. Meldorf and other towns in Ditmarschen do have cabbage festivals each end of the summer. If you wish to know more ask me :)

All German land along the river Elbe has somehow been called "Saxony". The ancient "Saxons" were a Germanic tribe that lived at the Northsea and the Elbe river. Together with the neighbouring Angles they took advantage of the decline of the Roman Empire and parts of them settled in Britain from the fifth century on, hence "Anglo-Saxons". Later "Saxony" described one of the five or so mighty dukedoms that early Germany as a federal kingdom consisted of. We talk about the early 10 century now. Later that German kingdom expanded east of the Elbe river into Slavic lands. As the Duke of Saxony played a big role in that development the result was a geographical split into "Upper Saxony" and "Lower Saxony". Lower Saxony is further down the river towards the sea, the present state of "Niedersachsen" (capital Hanover) in the northwest of Germany has its name from there. Upper Saxony became what is now "Sachsen-Anhalt" and "Sachsen" with their capitals Magdeburg and Dresden. Apart from the name "Sachsen" in those states they are very different from each other. E.g. in Lower Saxony people speak very good High German and maybe Low-German as a kind of second language, in Sachsen they often speak a dialect that makes those poor people the laughing-stock of all Germany.
