We had layers of blankets on the bed, plus an outside toilet. When I was in ninth grade we got a furnace n indoor plumbing. I say many times like you, I appreciate what I have today.

I did this my first year here. I was inside a camper with no insulation and one tiny space heater. It was so cold I would cry all day. Everything I touched was freezing. That was 5 yrs ago. I finally got into a rent-to-own cabin. Having it wired professionally cost around$1,200. Best thing I ever did! At least it was insulated. Hope, determination and NEVER giving up helps tremendously!! This summer, we are trading a kayak for a heating stove so I no longer have to worry @ losing power during ice storms. I have no running water so some days I collect snow and melt it to use for bathing, but I am thrilled in spring when my water catchment barrels fill up. Everything will iron out. Never, ever EVER give up❤

Another thing I did that really made the difference was to put up my 3 season bike tent inside the sienna . I did put a light wool blanket over the top of it too. Sometimes you can find these wool blankets at thrift shops coming from estate sales . Or you can double sleeping bag your bedding . I also cover or make a wool shield over my sleep apnea machine but leave the filter area are exposed. *** Never cover over the side vent of the Toyota Prius . *** I have a Prius which I use for the long haul trips across country . I rarely use the heater at night. The Prius uses 1/4 of a gallon of gas in a 11 hour time period . One thing a dealer point out to me in Texas never over pack the Prius . The generator needs air . And vents need air .

as someone who has lived in my rv during very cold weather. drain all faucets before the cold hits if you are not going to run antifreeze through the lines.. use bottled water, nothing in drains. put a big pot of water on the stove. start boiling that before you get out of bed. by the time it boils the place will be heated and you can use that warm water for bath, breakfast, dishes, etc etc. just toss out the used water on the ground.

We had a fumey old oil stove mum put on for me to get dressed by. Draughty metal windows, ice on inside. Ancient boiler/boiler room that filled kitchen etc with fumes when wind blowing certsin way. Could only have about 6" water each once week for bath (3 of us) as old tank also supplied farm house, had snow falling on us in bath from old sky light window for while till dad covered it with plastic. Before this, up to 1963, diff farm had tin bath. Also once lived in old mobile home where sheet edges were frozen to wall by morning. We wore coats with hoods in that time in winter! Plastic between your layers of blankets help. My nose gets cold, can't sleep with my head under blankets, I make a tent over my bed. House sitting-pet sitting pays nice but it's temporary housing. Some storage places offer an apt to keep someone on site, my sister did this with her 3 teens, or did apt management for discounted apt. I took a job as a companion for an older man, he cleaned more than I did and taught me how to cook his style of cornbread, I just cooked breakfast & lunch for a nice room in his house for me & my baby and min. wage. His daughter brought him supper. He bathed all on his own, but needed someone in the house in case, he was in a wheelchair but had a modified van and drove, though he shouldn't. There are a lot of lonely folks, afraid, and without a caregiver they risk going in a nursing home. His daughter tried a food truck, when it failed, she replaced me. This was okay, I'd saved up enough to start over. If I had been single I could have worked a 2nd job or gone back to school.

- Wear something underneath your sleepwear (long johns, leggings, etc) and multiple pairs of socks. - Cover those windows with something more than just blinds. At the very least at night if nothing else. Anything will work, even cheap little throw blankets can make a world of difference. - Wool works better with gathering and conserving heat over things like cotton or polyester. - If you're struggling to find work, try fast food places. I know it's not ideal and it doesn't have to be long term, but it's one of the easier kind of jobs to acquire. It can put a little money in your pocket and help for resumes when searching for other jobs. Hope things get better for you!

Light some candles if you have any laying around. Those tall skinny ones in the glass jars at dollar tree are a good deal, the ones that often have religious themes. I noticed when I couldn’t afford heat, candles made a difference. I also agree with the people that said a Mr buddy propane heater would be helpful. That’s what got me through a power outage we had last winter due to a blizzard. I pray that god blesses you with everything you need to live comfortably ❤

Other people on KZbin in yr situation have used foil bubble wrap at all the windows. Separate the driving area with a warm fabric curtain. I live in a very cold draughty house and I have three duvets on my bed and a fleece blanket inside and fleece Jim jams and two pairs of socks. I don't have central heating and not enough electric power and sockets to run free standing radiators.

Your freezer will also insulate from the cold. Perhaps, you could put your water bottles in it. Perhaps you could add a bottle or two of hot water to add warmth. I have used canning jars and spaghetti sauce jars to hold hot water. I have seen instant pots at thrift stores. I use mine as a humidifier: add water and set on warmer setting. Humid air retains heat better than dry air. Infrared heat is good for drafty spaces because it heats objects not air. Currently Amazon has one for $65. An electric blanket or mattress pad doesn’t draw much wattage esp if you can get a 12v blanket which usually sell at truck stops. Advantage is blanket also can be used as seat heater. I know all this would be expensive; see what is affordable for you.
