Thiazide when given in diab insipidus decreases glomerular filteration rate. So urine output is less. Hence it decreases urine output. But when comes to definition of diuretics they are substances that increase the urine output.

Sir .. why thiazides are causing hypokalemia .. if Na+Cl- symportor on luminal side is blocked then Na k+ ATPase on basolateral memb should not work and so k+ will remain in blood only and it won't come out into distal tubular cell as it was moving in earlier in exchange of Na+

Because inhibition of sodium-chloride symporter at distal convoluted tubule of a nephron and stimulation of aldosterone that activates Na+/K+-ATPase at collecting duct.

Sir is it important to know that the thiazide cause moderate Natriuresis??? Because loop diuretic also inhibit the Na reabsorption so how much amount of Na coming from Loop that much amount of Na release from DCT?? M I right??

assalam o alaikum sir i hv a question here... sir thiazide hv adverse effect that they can cause hyperglycemia ... then why we should gave hydrochlorothiazide in hypertension? i knw its for eliminate the excess amount of sodium n water but it may also cause hyperglycemia....e.g; in co eziday tablet used in high bp case have hydrochlorothiazide wd losartan

Yes you are correct. Such examples are here which may affect two conditions so its adviced accordingly. But the ratio of benefit and side effect has to be observed
