0:50 There’s this Ronin goalie who has subbed for our opponents just about every game. I’m not intimidated but he stops everything and I just know, even if I’m standing on my head, it’s only a matter of time before I let one in and we lose. PS: You’re looking really, really smooth out there. 🤙

Its tough playing against those guys. I used to regularly play against this guy who was the top goalie in the div. but on the worst team. He was 10 years older but was incredible. Definitely got me on my toes everytime we played him.

You did a excellent job! Good tracking of the puck, positioning/movement, save selection and resetting after each play. It's always good to play against a high calibre goalie because you can learn from them (as they may also be learning from you) and it pushes you to be consistent and to be on top of your game. :)

@jetjaguar44443 ай бұрын
@@ovr40goalie For sure! You can tell these higher skilled goalies had a goalie coach, consultant or two. At the pro levels, players and coaches watch so much film/footage and I'm sure goalies do as well (pro or beer league).

I’m 5’7” and am always jealous of the monster 6’+ goalies I play against. As I’ve moved up in divisions, my defense has yet to level up with me, so 30 - 40 shots per game is average. It’s good cardio. The pros are never going to call me, so I could care less what the score is at the end of the day. As long as I play the best game I can, I’m happy. You looked solid out there. great improvement on t pushes & shuffles from your coaching camp - better coverage well done - I find in first period / game (we play to 5 & switch) overly nervous in warmup - reducing warmup length & then waiting to get those first 2 goals against to settle me down - but then 2 late - again great improvement

Great game! Playing in a higher division is always intimidating, but you showed you definitely belong there. I can certainly see a major difference in your skating and movement. I guess those coaching sessions really did pay off. Something I struggled with when trying to relearn the position was over focusing on my movements and technique during games. The time to focus on that is during practice (aka shinny/stick and puck). During games, it's better to let your minds sole focus be on stopping that puck. Time to let your muscle memory take over. Great game again. Really enjoyed the video!!
@ovr40goalie3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yeah definitely over focusing is a good way to learn things, unfortunately most of our practice time happens during a game lol so I definitely see your point. It’s definitely more fun when things become muscle memory, but takes lots of time to get to that point

I use a JOBY Suction Cup with GorillaPod Arm to mount the camera. Its a little more expensive than those standard mounts but it lets you be flexible with the angles.

@@ovr40goalie That's one thing I've found about goaltending, there's a peace in it, well, maybe not in your head, but that it's just you against the world, and you can just tune out a lot and really focus. As you mentioned, the games without much work are hard to keep into, but even then, you can make sure you're moving well, tracking, just using that time to stay focused on something within the game during that off time

I normally don't focus on other goalies because I'm focused on stopping a shot one at a time. The other goalie is big, but his ability to move fast just isn't there. He reminds me of the goalie I shared time with on my old team who was just a tower, but he moved so slow. He would make saves strictly on being on angle and being at the right depth due to his size, also wrap arounds just never worked on him due to his post to post coverage, but the moment the higher level players forced him to move he would retreat back deep into the net and left a lot of net open. We had about equal stats and he had over foot in height over me. I just had a lot less margin for error.

You play against his players. I get that you can feel stressed if your team dominates and the other goalie stops everything. You don't want to let in a goal to discourage your team. However, you seem to play with good players. Just concentrate on not giving soft goal. If the goals you let in is the result of a good play by the other team, so be it. 2-1 is nothing to be ashamed about and you should be proud.

There was NOTHING intimating about that goalie in warmups. He is decent on the initial shot, but a SLOTH on getting back up and into position on rebounds and that guy would get shredded to pieces in the A and B leagues. His 5 hole is gapping and unfortunately your guys shot it everywhere except there. I'd venture a guess his east top west movement on dekes is also extremely slow. He is tall, and can get away with that in lower levels, but he wasn't that impressive. You need more confidence in yourself man. If I see another goalie that I think is on my level, a light goes off in my head that says "fuck this asshole" - and that alone ramps me up. Also, for the love of god - GET THAT GLOVE AND BLOCKER UP AND OUT!
