Freddy is awesome! I was a student of his back 18 years ago. my skills are no testimony to what kind of a teacher he is (cuz clearly he's very good) but I run into him around town every couple of years and he's always on his way to another gig or clinic. I'm glad he doing an outlet on KZbin, he can really help a lot of people learn this stuff.

Best demonstration I've seen so far on pinched harmonics. Just tried this on an unplugged electric (grandson sleeping) and can hear the harmonics jump out. The "digging in and popping" is what did it. All the other demos give some vague waffle about striking the note with the pick and "briefly touch string with fleshy part of thumb"

I went thru the exact same thing watching videos and im thinking damn I just can't get it. So i stopped and just kept practicing but hearing how badass they sound and gave it another try I said what the hell i play all kinds of heavy metal but cant do a damn pinch harmonic or dive bomb😕😕😤😤😤😁😎😎. After this video man this guy is badass for sure. This video should be # 1 when searching how to do pinch or dive 💣 in my opinion.

Sometimes,I’ll do pinch harmonics from the nail of the index finger holding the pick, as well as the the way Freddy describes it with the thumb. A good overdrive/distortion from the amp helps a ton, also.

I had to learn pinch harmonics almost as a mistake. I was just noodling around one day and did it by accident, and that's what made it click for me.
@keithclark486 Жыл бұрын
That's how I learned it also ' I was playing at church and it accidentally happened so I kept on doing it. After Sunday service was over ' the preacher came up to me and says' we don't allow the devil's music in the house of God. I went home that day excited that I'd discovered how to do it, Anyways I ended up quitting church and started playing around with my grandsons band. I just turned 77 last month and I have my 1'st gig coming up with my grandsons heavy metal band. Didn't mean to blah blah blah so much but I'm excited and looking forward to playing that gig with them.

Pretty helpful, was surprised that there was no mention of Dimebag Darrel from Pantera and Damageplan. Some of the best examples of these techniques being successfully used available are from when he was in Pantera.

I've always wanted to make that sound, I'm not a real player but now I know how to make another noise. I'm talkin about the first lesson. I don't know why Gibson won't say let's rule the world and add a whammy on their Les Pauls. I am not going to be out the money to add one, but they are fun.

I really, really need help with this. My vibrato, natural and pinch harmonics are really weak. It's really frustrating.
@LassetUnsSpielen2 жыл бұрын
i personally found practicing these on nylon-acoustic very helpful. very frustrating at first, because the acoustic is a lot less responsive, so you have to be more precise. when you go back to electric guitar, will be much easier

@guywhoisaguy67676 Жыл бұрын
No, nothing to do with how your amp is working, I do them unplugged, clean no distortion, just a guitar and me, no pick. Pick makes it much more optional, but is not needed. You can get them tapping when you Z stretch the string (top finger one way, bottom tap finger the other way.) They can be hit on every single fret, unplugged. You had it right the first time, You need to get the feel for it, with soft work, the pick is the key, with heavy metal, the pinch pressure on the fret is key. There are multiple pitches on every note when pulling or pushing too. I was waiting for you to sink it, let it go, and let it snap back up, but you didn't.
