Woody's "I don't even know what they're doing" summarizes how insanely precise things become the more you learn and get into them, including most professions in general. This is on the "My life is cave diving" level and his statement is a testament to how much skill and effort these people have to do what they love.

I feel for Woody, when you're accustomed to a warm, mild climate, any big drop in temperature feels SO cold. My first winter in Northeast WA after living in CA for 20 years was the coldest I'd ever been in my entire life. The first time I stepped out into single digit temps...oof. It took probably 5 years before my body adjusted. Now I overheat the moment it hits 80°F lol!
@MerryJanne
@MerryJanne Жыл бұрын
@@ghosttowntomatoIt's more than that. wild how your body will adjust given time. November, 5c (don't know freedom units, sorry) feels freezing. After months of up to -45c, -10c is literally shorts and a hoodie weather. At 5c in the spring, you are sunbathing, lol. (Canadian from Alberta)

It's crazy how that works. I grew up in Montana where I still live and I'm 31. It's been around or below 0 for weeks. Today it's 40° F and it's so warm to me I'm sweating every time I go outside and come back in. Life really is whatever you're exposed to.

You make me laugh, and I always learn a lot, even if i'm never going to use the knowledge, knowledge is nice to know all the same. The underwater caves look fantastic, but the most I could do is dry caves, and even then i wouldnt want to feel like I could become trapped in a tight space. Looking forward to seeing what you have in store in 2023. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to sharing with us your adventures and knowledge. What you guys do is express the duality of diving - firstly all the technical knowledge and equipment required, including the environs of the sea and the caves. But secondly the beauty, the comraderie and the spiritual aspects of the whole experience. The danger and the exhilaration. Thank you. And by the way, fish like Woody don't need snorkels. He just breathes the air bubbles in the water don't you Woody? Maybe! Thanks for the fun, from us all over the world. Japan is cold right now. Stay rugged up till you feel emotionally warm and loved again, Woody. And Gus, appreciate Woody just a little bit more. He gives out a lot of innocent joy to us!

@DIVETALK
@DIVETALK Жыл бұрын
When you are wearing your mask you can’t breathe through it, it’s all through your mouth on the loop, once you take it off it’s really difficult to breathe 100% through your mouth, there’s always a little bit that will go through your nose unconsciously, so the plug allows them to ensure mouth breathing while taking a break from wearing a mask.

Just for fun I want to make some calculations. So if I remember correctly buoyance is equal to the weight of the water that is displaced. So if we guess that habitat to be 4'x4'x4' which equals 64 cubic feet and multiply that by 62.3 (the weight of 1 cubic foot of water) that should mean the habitat is pushing against the ceiling with about 3,987.2 lbs. of force. I am guessing that perhaps being 9 meters down which is nearly 1 atmosphere might change things, most likely increase the force, but still that is a lot of force. Thank you for the video guys.

JJ is short for JJ-CCR which is a reasonably popular rebreather manufacturer in Europe. They are very flexible regarding what cylinders you can mount for diluent. So I’m guessing double 7 refers to 2x7 liter @300bar as rebreather mounted diluent/bailout

You were commenting about the double 7L JJ : This configuration is used because it provides sufficient gas to enable the rebreather diver to bail out to open circuit on the same back gas supply that supplies the rebreather in order to deal with a problem without having to switch immediately to a larger offboard gas supply. This allows you to briefly switch to OC at will as part of problem diagnosis.
@MaverickMito
@MaverickMito Жыл бұрын
in this case we used the 7l because of the profile. If you dive down to 80 up to 20 down to 90 up to.... you need a lot of gase to compensate. While diving down you need new gas and will diving up you release the gas. 3l for the whole profile wouldn't be enough. So we decided to use some "bigger" bottles. For bailout the push team has a 20l bottle with 250 bar and the second rebreather. The 20l bottle is connected to the BOV via QC6.

around minute 7:58 to answer this: you need to know how to rig highlines that will act as a carriage system to get your gear to each of the three points. There is a good photo of their carriage line setup at 8:00 min mark. Depends on what part of the world you are in but sometimes these things are taught to first responders for technical rescue or other times to workers that work at height called rope-access. Yeah, I got into this stuff like you all did cave diving.

I nearly drowned as a kid in California beach I'm not 100% sure where it was but I was so far out into the water that people on the beach look like little tiny ants. I got hit by a rogue wave after stepping on a jellyfish at that point I panicked it did not sting me but I felt it squishy head underneath my foot and that's when I started swimming like crazy panicking. I was so far out that a shark easily could have swam up next too me the water got slowly deeper as you went out. If I had to guess I was more than a mile out from the beach even the lifeguard would have not noticed me. I was body surfing at the time and I got hit by the rogue Wave and it crushed me so much by the water pressure that every part of my body was unable to move from the weight of the water I basically became a stone tumbling on the ocean floor. I would love to talk about it sometime. If I had been stung by the jellyfish I probably would have died for sure. The weight of the water compressed my body to the point that I could not move a single muscle I could not breathe I was completely stationery but tumbling like a log rolling through the ocean floor and eventually the weight and pressure of the water lifted as the wave passed. I swam to the surface and breathe immediately and then I got back to shore... Was terrifying
