Hello Thank you for the cool videos! I want to buy an Osmo action 4 camera or a GoPro 11-12. I wonder what will be better for underwater videos and photos, because osmo action 4 only takes 10MP photos. What's your opinion?

I would get a GoPro but I don't have much experience with the Osmo

Some good advice, I did 30 years of underwater still photography on silver ,Gopro was my first underwater digitalo. I have just rewatched one of my early fillms. Very early I built a wide handrig mounting from 2 to 5 LED underwater lights. My colleagues called this Gopro on steroids. Why? I needed light power for width and LED gopro lights are cheap, $30 but they flood. If I start with 5 LEDs at the end of the week I have two or three still working. Now looking at my film of the sardine run in South Africa, In 15 minutes I have only 5 still shots,k all were on land. What surprised me is that exactly as you said, most of the time I was low, shooting up, I didn't think about that I just did it. My two gopros are brilliant for wide angle video. For still photo shooting they suck, compared to.... What I now dive with is a custom built two hand wide rig with an Olympus TG6 in case, Goipro on the hotshoe, one or two LEDs and an underwater Strobe. I will be filming wide angle video with the Gopro, but still photography and macro with TG6.

Hi, I'm just back from my first trip diving in over 10 years, so these tips are really interesting (though I could have done with finding this video a month ago!). Another tip I'd add to the video bit is to record for longer than you think. When the fish you were recording swims off, leave the camera recording for a few seconds more at least. It helps when editing footage together so that it doesn't feel rushed.

@@DiveSAGA ok went on a dive using the liner lens setting I do think there’s an improvement but I can say why but looks much better so I am leaving it on that setting from now on 👍.Photos I used to take a clips from my video for the photos I have now stopped that as there’s a big difference and also taken tips on how to position the GoPro and there’s a big difference on how they look ie not looking down . So thanks for the very helpful tips 🙏

For video , isn't the Linear setting just doing processing that can be done in Post, where you can control it more?
@DiveSAGA2 ай бұрын
Yes, very good point!.But it does affect your image and framing so doing it live informs your decision how to frame it. That's why I do it in camera unless I think I will need some kind of wide angle for some reason.
@Slabysz2 ай бұрын
@@DiveSAGA I agree with you to a large extent. There can be a big difference between zooming in later in Post and framing it correctly in the camera, especially with depth of field. Plus, I can feel it when I get in right while filming. I don't get that feeling while leaving it loose to punch in later.

Hey. im new with gopro, would like to ask, that how you shoot photos underwater? I'm guessing that you dont push always the top button(e.g. you are holding the selfie stick or the tray, than maybe it would be difficult). Is there any pro tips to this? as I saw that the remote cannot be used under water.

One question: the Go pro 11, 10 and 9 look pretty similar, features wise. with a difference of only 100$ between the oldest and the newest one… worth it to pay an extra 100$ for the 11 ?
@DiveSAGA Жыл бұрын
I have the 10 and it's fine. I often skip generations. Technology has come so far and the cameras are so good in certain aspects that the only thing I really look at is if their body size has changed and still fits my other hardware that I already own!
@sntshkmr60 Жыл бұрын
11 has significant update than other two. 9 and 10 and more or less similar.

I've had better results taking stills from video rather than using the Photo mode of the GoPro. My Photo mode pics are not good for some reason. The one caveat is to get good stills from video you have to change some default settings in PowerDirector, the software I use. By default PowerDirector reduces resolution of still from the video preview, and you have to change that first to get good stills.
@RaquelS1983 Жыл бұрын
one thing that I find really annoying from gopro underwater is that you can't change settings while diving and situations, scenes, light can change quickly. Planning the moves? yeah, but one setting does not fit all moments. Or is there a way and I don't know? I recently bought my gopro and still getting used to it.
@DiveSAGA Жыл бұрын
Yes that's a valid point and you are correct. It's why I shoot everything in a very flat profile (definitely not pro tunes) and leave as much leeway for later correction as possible!
@alaincaspar21488 ай бұрын
If you press on/off, keep it press and press at the same time the start button, you have access at different configurations. You can make those for what you need the most and then use them during the dive.
