Several weeks ago I dug up a number of clumps of Helleborus Orientalis which had self seeded into a path. They survived and today I replanted them into the woodland borders in the lower quarry garden.

Nice to see you able to get some dividing and transplanting done. Mother Nature is doing her best to annoy us this winter. Unexpectedly all our snow melted last week and temps rose enough that the daffodils began breaking through the ground. Far too early for us, and we awoke to 8cm of heavy wet snow this morning, with more predicted right through Monday. Colder temps are on their way for the last weeks of March so that will be more of our usual winter scenario. Glad to see you working hard again and I just love your Hellebores! Wishing you a productive gardening week🌞

It must be very frustrating to have mild weather, giving you false hope spring is on its way then for more snow to arrive. You experience very long hard winters. We would be in free fall if we had months of heavy snow, one week of snow here and the place comes to a standstill. The one positive I can give is my spring flowers will be well and truly over and yours will just be beginning 😊

Hi .. thanks for video… I planted hellebore plants from friends garden in spring ..the plant seemed to die back .. Will they re-emerge ? In Delaware zone 7 .. keep looking for greenery 🤔 hoping they lived how do I tell ?

The UK hasn’t adopted the plant hardiness zones you have in the US so I can only provide general information I’m afraid. That being said from my experience the majority of hellebore varieties are very hardy and reliable but a couple of things to be aware of. When I’ve lifted and replanted established plants they’ve occasionally failed to recover, some varieties don’t like to be moved. I’ve had more success with young seedlings but I do keep them in pots for a season or two. Keep them well watered and I grow all of mine in partial to full shade. They grow leaves in late spring so I would have expected to see signs of growth by now, however as newly planted specimens they will be establishing roots first and may produce a flower in late autumn early winter then new leaves next spring. So my advice would be to wait until late spring/early summer next year and if still no sign of life, on to the compost heap they go. Hope this helps, thanks for watching 😊

@@thequarrygardener5578 thank you so much .. I will keep n eye out for growth. I got them from garden club gal n we meet this Thursday I will ask her then too. Seems she had a bunch and we were all invited to dig up… 🤞🤞 I’m hopeful.

Thank you 🙏. Spring is my favourite time of year, I think it’s because I garden predominantly in shade therefore it’s when I have the most colour in the garden 😊

I've just bought some helebores I've always love them I never got round to buying them I also just planted bearded iris in my sunny border.

I love bearded iris unfortunately I don’t have a hot dry sunny area to grow them. I am hoping to add iris Sibirica to the bog garden though, I’m hoping they will grow in the damp conditions. Happy planting and thanks for watching 😊
