I know these cheap amps aren't a high-level tech's dream job to work on, but maybe you'll get more eyes for your video side of things because so many more own this type/level of amp, compared to a barely used vintage amp that runs $5k to buy. I own both - handwired and cheap PC board w/thin boards and SMDs, and want to learn about them both. The cheap amps sound good enough to justify throwing reasonable tech time $$ at them for component level repair, but I ease the $$ burden by removing the chassis myself so the tech can focus, and I always provide a schematic. So far, so good. Thanks for another great walk-through.

A friend and local amp technician of mine got in 3 of the bigger ones into his shop. When they finally got picked-up, they all caught fire from a band using them as backline a few days into the tour The cabinetry is really bang-on, and I find them pleasant, but it’s a shame the build quality is brutal. Buddy ended up buying one of the toasted ones really cheap from the store and ended up hand-wiring it w/ a turret board in line with the original circuit.

This looks like my Harley Benton GA5/Epiphone Valve Jr on the inside, is it made it China? To be fair those amps are nice inside for their price point, and they are well put together on the outside, but with the same header pin based assembly and sockets.

Thanks. Aside from lead diameter and spacing, no, but the cathode only has about 24VDC on it in standard use.

@@PsionicAudio Just my wild speculation, but given how people tend to run this sort of amp I'm wondering about flyback spikes exceeding that voltage. Not sure if output stage has NFB or not.

I have found endless possibilities in a scrap two-by-four drilled with holes, routed out with a flathead and hammer, etc. Way quieter than having your wife stand next to you holding things for you and asking why you are doing it that way and how she thinks it should be done a different way. I just caught the felt on the back of the ESP style wrench! I love that tip. I use those same wrenches on my guitars and I always use a T shirt or something....but that is so much simpler.
