I was fortunate enough to be invited to a dinner there in the courtyard dining room two weekends ago! We were a table of nine, and we ordered five bottles, which we left up to the somm to pair for us. She produced the following: Modicum Blanc de Blancs, "Schramsberg Vineyards," Extra Brut, North Coast 2018; Karthauserhof Reisling, "Eitelsbacher Schieferkristall," Trocken, Mosel 2019; Domaine de Comtes Lafon Mersault, "Clos de La Barre," 1er Cru, Burgundy 2019; Produtrori del Barbaresco Barbaresco, "Muncagota," Piedmont 2016; Dunn Cabernet Sauvignon, Howell Mountain 1988. Needless to say, these wines (and the meal! and the service!) were beyond spectacular; it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I also fist-bumped Thomas FRIGGIN Keller!!! 😭

How was Dunn in particular?
@lesliemoo2 жыл бұрын
@@ajitkirpekar4251 It was lovely and had aged very well! I only wish I had tried it before the Nebbiolo because the Muncagota was my favorite of the evening; it rendered the Dunn kind of lackluster, unfortunately. It should also be noted that the wine prices are inflated around 400% over retail. A $300 bottle of 1988 Dunn was marked up to $1200. Shocking when the bill comes around, but I still got to try all of that wine for around $250 in the end. It was definitely worth it for the experience ☺️

@@lesliemoo i learned the painful lesson when I brought a spring mountain cab to single thread, only to see the corkage fee was more than the bottle itself. Thanks for the insights!

@@lesliemoo OMG, you weren't kidding. A 1992 screaming Eagle, which costs 9-12k online is 50k at the French Laundry. Its so hard to fathom that they can get away with that kind of markup.

Hey, just discovered your channel. This was so much fun. But 70 pages is child’s play. You need to take a week off and deep dive the 200+ pages that is Bern’s Steakhouse’s wine menu. We are talking 1970’s Lirac for $27. They have some cool and fun stuff that I would love to see your take on!
@TroysTastingRoom2 жыл бұрын
I went to add Bern’s to my list and saw it was already on there! Should be tackling that soon. I also took a look at 11 Madison’s 212 page list on the channel!

A regional favorite is The Angus Barn in Raleigh. We toured their cellar after dinner on an especially quiet night there during a winter storm. I may never again see as many bottles of different DRC vintages.

My guess from your List you like acidic leaning wine and live on the East Coast but grew up in California.
@TroysTastingRoom2 жыл бұрын
Very interesting! I would agree I prefer acid-forward wines, but that aligns with a preference for new-world and well-aged wines. Even more importantly, I would say wines with age (and capacity to age) start with high enough acid. As an aside, I love your estimates of my location, but I will say both statements are incorrect! Let me know what you think after the next video……
