Really loved this ranking system and approach. Would LOVE to see versions for various areas….cult Napa wines, Pomerol, Burgundy, etc.

Enjoyed this ranking video very much. Pomerol, St-Emilion and Burgundy would be interesting, too.. Always enjoyable to listen to experienced opinions, especially regarding the higher valued wines. And humbly agree, Haut Brion (2009,10,16) is a magnificent wine. Incredible.

Back around 1983, I purchased two bottles of 1979 Chateau Cos d'Estournal at a "state store" in Pennsylvania. The vintage wasn't the best but it was my son's birth year. It was going to be opened at his 18th or 21st birthday with the obligatory "Ah yes, it was a very good year." But life throws curve balls and although my son is fine, he can't drink. I've kept it ever since until three nights ago when I opened one to share with friends. I can't do wine justice as I simply don't have a sophisticated palate. Nevertheless, I can tell if a wine is spoiled and this one was definitely not. We enjoyed the bottle very much. The point of all this is, at the time of purchase, btw it still has its price sticker: $19.96, all I could afford was a second growth. Your video and ranking of this estate to your S category really made me smile. Thank you.

Very experienced as a culinary gourmand but pretty earn into my wine journey, I was very happy to see a Cos and Montrose on the list as I dipped my toes into the Left Bank with their respective 2nd wine/less expensive associated wine (Tronquoy-Lalande)! Would love to see a tier list for Saint Emilion, well-known Napa Valley wineries, and fine Rieslings!

I love this format! Keep it up! Maybe dive into 3rd/4th/5th growths, and even better, touch on some of the non-Grand Crus which perform above their status? As for this list, I think you’re rankings largely match my personal experience. Minor quibbles-personally I would flip-flop Cos and Montrose. Also, I would maybe bump Mouton up to C. I agree it certainly doesn’t meet my expectations of a first growth, and I would probably rather have 10 bottles of Brane for the price of one Mouton, but I don’t think it’s the absolute worst of the bunch. I’ve yet to try Durfort-Vivens, though I have a pair of the ‘05 resting in my cellar, and I don’t ever recall seeing Rauzan Gassies in any wine shop or restaurant list, ever 🤷🏼♂️. The rest I’ve tasted over multiple vintages, although I’m assuming my experience is nowhere near as extensive as yours.

Great list but agree that Lalande would be higher in my mind. Obviously, profile has been evolving with increasing focus on Cab. Comtesse Reserve is also solid as the second wine.

Demote Cos to "B", demote Dufort to "C", upgrade Montrose to "S", upgrade Lalande to "S", upgrade Baron to "A", upgrade Segla to "A", upgrade Lafite to "S", upgrade Brane to "B", demote Lascombs to "D", demote Gassies to "E", and upgrade Mouton to "S". Other than that, I agree!

I love these I’ve done one myself haha and they are always controversial ! I see you based this off your personal preference and not based on the price they go for now instead of 1855 and it was very interesting loved seeing your thoughts on the vino 🍷

Loved the blunt honesty! Where would you place Palmer? Would love to see the Burgundy GC ranking, I always found it hard to discern the effects of quality and scarcity on the prices of those wines.
@TroysTastingRoom2 жыл бұрын
I already consider Palmer an honorary first growth, perhaps a spoiler for a future video! And Burgundy tends to sway harder with vintage and producer, making it a bit more complex than Bordeaux, but all the reason to do a video!

Interesting. I've never tried a Mouton Rothschild, but have a bottle from 2003 lined up for Christmas. I'll have a chance to see if I agree with you.

I've only had Mouton twice. A 1998 first label - opened just last year, and a 2010 Le Petit opened in 2019. Both were surprisingly disappointing.

Dufort Vivens above Lafite is very surprising to me! Haven’t had Lafite but I’d hope it’s better than Dufort considering the insane price difference

@remifjelldal72992 жыл бұрын
what do you think of chateau palmer? and perhaps especially the 2018?
@TroysTastingRoom2 жыл бұрын
Palmer is always a favorite, including the 57, 83, and 05! I haven’t tried 18 yet, maybe hasn’t hit my market, but 18 has been stellar across the board for Bordeaux. No doubt Palmer performs just as well!
@remifjelldal72992 жыл бұрын
@@TroysTastingRoom thanks for the quick reply. I have the chance to pick up a bottle of the palmer 18, but could also go for the estournel 16,18 or 19 for around the same price. what would you do? cheers
@TroysTastingRoom2 жыл бұрын
16 Cos for sure, Palmer in a close second! 16 is just such an all-star vintage for me, almost regardless of producer, but especially with Cos and especially if you don’t plan to wait 50 years on the Palmer to hit peak.

Well there are fifteen minutes I will not get back. There are palates with which you feel some kind of alignment, and then there is this. Hopefully, people will taste before making any serious buying decisions. Let’s start with the most egregious, Mouton. Perhaps not the most consistent of the FGs, but 1982, 1986 and 1996 are among the finest Bordeaux I have tasted. And the 2016 for me was the wine of the vintage. The Pichon Lalande , Ducru and Montrose are candidates for the top tier, the Cos would be in the third. I gather terroir is not something you value. Overall, it was like watching a car crash in slow motion, starting with the Cos which was the screech and skid. Impact was the Mouton and the jaws of life extraction was Lafite. In between were more minor moments of agony, Dufort which might get a fifth tier on a good day, but more excruciating the Pichon Lalande, and the shard of pain realizing that Cos was “better” than Montrose, Pichon and Ducru. I only continued to watch because I was in the middle of exercising and my occasional growls of disbelief probably made the cardio more effective.

Perhaps the most extraordinary comment I've ever received. S-Tier! Thanks so much for watching!

True and based. Cos in S tier? Dufort in A? You sure were drunk when you did this!
