DIVING WITH SEALS in the FARNE ISLANDS, Northumberland, UK

Welcome to Scuba 2000's much anticipated Farne Islands Adventure 2022!
The Farne Islands is just a short distance off the Northumberland coast and is renowned as THE BEST place in the UK to dive with seals - approximately 4,500 Atlantic Grey Seals live here. The area is a popular location for wreck diving, with many wrecks having sunk here throughout history. The most famous wreck is that of the Somali. She was a 6810 tonne passenger-cargo steamer bound for Hong Kong when she was bombed and now lies in 29 metres of water.
For us, the seals were the main attraction. Being lucky enough to visit at prime time and having managed to dodge the majority of bad weather predictions, we made the most of our time with the seals! They did not disappoint, giving us amazing encounters on every dive.
Our group of 9 divers completed a total of 36 dives, an average depth of 13m and a total of just over 26 hours underwater.
Check out the highlights from our trip - I've managed to get over 1.5 hours worth of footage down to around 13 minutes! Quite an achievement :-)

Love the Farne islands hit or miss with the weather and the vis . Looks like you hit gold on the day of your dive . Many times our dives are cancelled due to the weather. Going to do a club dive in November fingers cross ❎

Great footage. Knivestone always good for the seals especially at HW. Worth diving Whirl Rocks if you get good weather on neap tides. Best wreck dive is the Athelduke albeit a tad deep on compressed air.

I'm hoping to do this trip later this year, what are the rules on touching the seals? I don't think I could resist if one came up and was messing with my fin or something :)

You will have an awesome time. Some interaction is generally OK if they seals are happy to play :-)

Thank you! It was fantastic trip... we went first week of October and were very lucky with the weather, as the days before there was heavy rain and wind!
