Wanted to take a moment to thank you for this video. Followed you to a T. Thank you again. Love this orchid and now everyone is together. Should have good results here in Florida. 👍 Well done.

You DEFINITELY do not play the radio HAHAHHAHA..but wow what a massive specimen... i understand that y ou are indeed the propapation queen but darn just imagine the amazing show of spikes and blooms that y ou wouldve got next year if it had remained intact as one plant once it is potted up all together or even mounted along the side of one of your massive trees..but still massive divisions ...well done Maria and thanks for sharing and including us in another orchid adventure :-)

Lol!!!!! Maria I absoulutely love your videos. I love seeing your repots, dividing, cleaning up whatever. The bulbs do look like a basket of eggs, ha, ha. Please keep us informed if they grow new leaves. Thanks again for another great video!!!! :)

rmcandlelight Ha ha ha!!!! Thank you so much! That means a lot to me! I love my orchids and have so much fun showing them off and creating the videos...and I get to allow my inner child to come out and play all day and she doesn't even have to worry about being scolded! LOL! ...but the best satisfaction I get is when people say that I have influenced them or inspired them to dive into their passion and indeed become lost in the art of growing orchids...when it all comes down to it...it's about embracing life and everything that makes our world so beautiful...when we can begin to appreciate the magnificent world that surrounds us or is within us...only then, I believe we can tap into true happiness...indeed live, love, laugh...and HAPPY GROWING! :)

+PictureMaria1 Hi Maria! Wondering if you have an update on this propagation video? I have 3 seedlings of this species. I grow it in bark and moss mixture, which doesn't seem to be holding enough moisture. I will likely report and add peat . Look forward to your update. Thanks & happy growing!!!

Kati R. ...Ha ha ha!!! I don't know about bravest...but I am pretty duuuuurn cool, aren't I...LOL! It's funny how my friends in youtube land get a kick out of my vids...while all of my neighbors think I'm a little bit weird...spending so much time in my garden, having a hoopla of a time...talking to myself and my orchids and of course going into my character voices...I always catch them giving me confused, awkward glances...then waving politely and laughing it off, when they realize that I see them. LOL!! I always wave back...glad that they haven't called the people with the white jackets on me! LOL!! ...but it's actually the other way around...if you can't be yourself and and live out your life fully diving into your passions and dreams...that is what I consider insane! ...at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it!!! :) LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH!!!

Love to see you working with your repotting - you certainly take the "scary" part away! Can't help noticing that there didn't seem to be such a lot of medium used to repot this and that the plants are low in the basket - is this customary? As a beginner I would probably put more medium in the bottom of the pot to have the plant higher in the basket - help----am I over potting? Can we see an update on this plant ?
@PictureMaria18 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your positive feedback...I do appreciate it...and it really is all about your preference and also just being mindful of their growth habit...these orchids have a tendency to grow horizontally and have a spreading nature...so I like to give them room to spread...and yes when you add more medium then what is necessary it can be considered over potting in the aspect of giving it way more room then it needs and having media that absorbs too much water and takes longer to dry out. I think that is the biggest danger of having to much media because that invites fungus and rotting infections to set in....and speaking of rotting and infections this plant is actually in recovery mode...during our hurricane season it was knocked down and remained on the ground where the basket became overly saturated from the rain...I currently have it growing with in another basket with my airplants... I will try to showcase her...although at this time she is not much to look at... :(

Hey Maria, crazy orchid momma. I remember watching this when you made it, or not long after, so sometimes these days, now I have been into orchids for a few years, it's interesting to go back and watch again. I recently divided a massive Encyclia myself, and no, it wasn't easy. I am just finding it interesting that now I have collected a few different species that I am doing what you have already done. I love this orchid world of ours.

That little lizard skeleton is another example of how orchids get their fertilizer in the wild. :) I know people who don't fertilize their orchids at all, because they say that in the wild no one is fertilizing orchids and they still grow and bloom. But in the wild they get all sorts of nutrients from decomposing insects and little animals, bird and bat droppings, frogs' and lizards' remains, dried and decomposing leaves from trees, etc. But when people grow orchids indoors they don't ever get any of that. It's interesting to see the orchids you grow outside, and I think your environment resembles the conditions they would experience in the wild. You have a very nice place for growing orchids. They all look so happy and healthy.
@PictureMaria19 жыл бұрын
Orchids & a Dutchy Indeed that is the way it would receive its nourishment...although I still can't stomach the skeletal remains just sitting there looking up at me with it's beady little skull eyes...LOL!!! I'm glad I just didn't witness the decaying carcass...that would not have been too appetizing! LOL!

Hi Maria. I'm soooo happy you did this video. I have a seriously potbound Oncidium Dancing Lady and I have been trying to pick up the courage and confidence to tackle this daunting task! You have been a huge help with your advice and I'm ready to sort The Lady out. I tried to send you a photo but don't know where to post it. It is my intention to try and propagate a couple of old pseudo bulbs so I can give some friends a small gift from my garden .... with the help and advice from Maria Young! 🤗
@orchidsadutchy49409 жыл бұрын
She really looks much, much better after you divided it. You will have lots more flower spikes from this hanging basket, since it will produce more points of growth. At the beginning I thought the plant was so nice that size, and I thought it was a pity to divide it, but it was a good decision. Well done! :)
@PictureMaria19 жыл бұрын
Orchids & a Dutchy Thank you and indeed I hope so!!! Yes I wanted to clean her up...give her a new start...and at the same time see if the back bulbs would give me new growths...I think it was much needed and came out rather well...now I am just finger crossing that the back bulbs will be evident of such a worthy cause! :)

Awwwwwwww shux!!!! Good thing that my cordigera is such a feisty gal...I have confidence in her that she will produce more....and surprisingly sometimes casualties will actually promote new growth...it is quite common when one is lost another one will grow in it's place...so I'll keep my fingers crossed and I will also anticipate perhaps one or two to grow on my propagated back bulbs....at least I hope. :)
@starshadow19999 жыл бұрын
Haha yea and I'll stay tuned for those backbulbs update. (:
@josuebanega97049 жыл бұрын
It is like to loose medium, this orchid loves tree fern slabs or being attached to a hard raw slabs of wood. That king of medium is going to get rot soon and the roots are not going to develop properly.
@TheJUANCAMILO12348 жыл бұрын
It is my opinion, for propagation of orchids it is necessary a minimun of three pseudobulbs, never cut only one
@PictureMaria18 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right...that is like the golden rule to propagation...although you can propagate just using one bulb...but it is not the best way to do because it is a lot weaker...and takes a lot longer to bounce back. Usually the new growth from a back bulb will not bloom as it normally would in a regular propagation and could take several years even.
@annaisgrowing9 жыл бұрын
As always, wonderful video. But kind of a dumb question for you: why did you break her apart if you want her to grow back together in the end anyway? was it to grab the interior backbulbs or is there some other logic going on in there? Thanks :) ~Anna
@PictureMaria19 жыл бұрын
Yes, I took her apart to clean her up and reshape her growing structure....she was growing in almost in a line shape and I wanted her to take on a more circular form to allow her to have a more appealing look and eventually look very full...and the back bulbs had become very unsightly and thought I could get better use out of them by propagating for new growth instead...and that my friend is the reason to my madness. :)

Haha I never thought to give my orchids bling! That must be your secret to healthy orchids ;) Do you know what variety your cordigera is? I just purchased a seedling that is the pinker 'rosea' variety but I'd love to own the normal color as well. If your back bulb propagation is successful and you need to sell any I'd definitely be interested!
@PictureMaria19 жыл бұрын
***** LOL!!! ...everyone and everything deserves a little bling in their life!!! ...and I believe mine is also a Rosea variety!!! ...and the fragrance on her is so marvelous! One of the best smelling if not the best smelling orchid that I have! ...and yes I'll be sure to let you know! :)

Yep she looks a 100% better, I hate bugs too, yuk, trouble is i'm a screamer lol, If anything appears in my house be it wasp bee, or spider, I have a fit, it's world war 3 untill it's gone, my son usually saves me, but even he says come on mum that was the size of an ant, I don't care it has more than 2 legs, (shudder) My hubby said tonight theres a huge spider on the ceiling in a bedroom, i bolted, as fast as I could, (Really slowly I'm disabled) I wouldn't go in, Until they started laughing, It was a massive shadow cast by some plants I have hanging on my bedroom door, You can see a body a thorax and legs, But in reality Oncidiums ha ha ha, I duck if a house fly comes in the room, I'm old and still scared of these things LOL :-D aren't I silly LOL LOL :-)
@PictureMaria19 жыл бұрын
Rosemary457 RIGHT!!!! ...and yes I am a screamer too...but my screams sound more like a cross between a dying cat and a frog...My husband always comes running out of the house thinking I hurt myself...but when he sees me wildly flailing about like a fish out of water and screaming "GET IT OFF, GET IT OFF"....he then realizes I've more than likely been a victim of squirmy wormy paranoia...LOL! ...and ha ha ha...I didn't know Oncidiums could be so scary...but YIKES!!! LOL!!! I'm glad to know that I am not alone in my boat...there should be a program that teaches growers how to confront their fears of these hideous plant critters...if I ever hear of one...I'll tell you first...and you can tell me later if it works...LOL! Heeeee heeeee! :P

PictureMaria1 I tried one, well I didn't have a choice, my big brothers thought that if they threw enough creepy crawlers on me, I wouldn't be scared anymore, I don't think there plan worked, it made it worse, I only like butterflies at a distance, I can't bare anything to land on me, no matter how pretty or harmless it is, just the though of all those legs or wings and buzzing (shudder) makes my skin crawl brrr, I could faint at the thought of it, Do you think i may have serious issues about this subject, heeee heeee!
