Thank you so much for this extremely original idea, Maria. You always put lots of thoughts into your videos. This is exactly what I need RIGHT NOW. I "smuggled" some Vanda orchids from Thailand into Switzerland when I was traveling in October. Given the drastic change of environment, they lost lots of their roots and are struggling to adapt. I will wrap the stems with a piece of wet cloth and see what happens. Thank you again!

YOU SMUGGLED!!! Ha ha ha!!! What us orchid lovin' folks will do to get our orchid loving hands on them!!! Too funny!!! ...and CONGRATULATIONS on your smuggles...indeed the struggle is real!!! LOL! :) ...and thank you for your kind compliments...sharing is caring and I love to provide information and seek out methods that I believe can help others on their adventures as well as my own...it's all about learning and growing together! :) ...now as you know we are in our Winter season so it isn't the most opportune time to start this method...usually our orchids will grow more abundantly during the spring and summer months...but if you keep your orchids in a safe, warm and bright enough space it still should work for you as vandas don't need a dormancy period...although it may take longer to notice any considerable changes. The one root growth took about a month and two weeks to expose itself...but if all works well for you...by the time spring and summer comes around...your smuggled jewels should be ready to rock and roll like orchid rock stars!!! LOL!!! Good luck dear friend and indeed keep me posted on your wrapping adventures! :) HAPPY WRAPPING! :)

Thank you....and also thank you so much for watching...I always get asked how to promote growth on orchids...so I am constantly trying to figure out ways of doing it...and I am always pleased that through several trial and errors from time to time I will discover methods that work...and as you know sharing is caring so whatever information I find out I try and get it out to all of my friends... :) Let me know if you do attempt this method and how it works for you...and as a side note the best time to do this would be spring and summer...when we find our orchids in full growth mode with better growing conditions...the only reason I attempted the one was because it was severely weak and more than likely would not survive the winter without any good stable roots....and of course because I am such a child when it comes to discipline (because the method worked) I could not refrain from doing the other two....but to be honest I probably would have a better chance with healthier results if I would've waited. If you find you have to do it to save your orchid...be sure to keep it indoors protected from the cold and under decent light conditions....best of luck and HAPPY HOLIDAYS! :)

Thank you for your videos, I live in the Philippines and have problems in getting hold of some of the materials you use. Would it be possible to use alternatives like cloth strips instead of industrial paper towels? what material would be best - like t-shirts of cotton fabric?
@PictureMaria1
@PictureMaria1 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for joining me on my orchid adventures! ...and yes you most definitely can use synthetic material for growing your orchids. Some people even use yarn material. I would use whatever material can hold the most moisture and for the longest amount of time especially since you live in a very hot tropical environment. Thanks again for watching and I am wishing you the best in your orchid adventures! HAPPY GROWING! 🤗😀🌺

@@PictureMaria1You are welcome, I decided to subscribe to your channel because I learn a lot from it and more or less the climate is the same. I also like Vandas (waling waling) and dendrobiums (most common orchid grown in this country). Vandas, Phalaenopsis, and cattleyas are very expensive here. The vandas for sale here at a lower price are usually cutting and with at least 1 root. The more establish ones would cost from 900 pesos or more. Quite expensive for me. I will try to send you some pictures once I have had them have new roots. Thanks again

Thank you kindly and I wasn't too sure if I wanted to start this method in the winter season when most plants require a dormancy or a rest period...but I had started on my vanda that was soon to conk out on me...and because it worked out so well for the first one...I couldn't hold back from getting started with the other two...I figure I'll shake up its growth schedule a bit and see if we can go against the grain and still come out with a win...and it does help that it is still pretty warm and sunny in our area so it shouldn't hinder the plants growth...and I definitely will keep them indoors when it starts getting really cold...so when the others are asleep perhaps these ones will be wide eyed and bushy tail...and continue to grow for me...wishful thinking perhaps...adventurous grower...MOST DEFINATELY!!! We'll see what happens...and fingers crossed! ...PS HAPPY Holidays to you as well...and indeed may it be warm and bright!!! :)

Can you do this method for root promotion on Vanda seedlings? My seedlings aren't growing any new root growth and I don't have them in medium because they weren't looking so great so I have them hanging upside down in baskets in my window.

Hey there....long time no talk...hoping all is well with you, the hubby and your little orchid children...all is well in my neck of the woods...except for I'm getting backed up with videos that I have to do...now that it is practically dark by the time I get home it's been killing my video production capabilities...I have like 4 orchid haul videos long over due and orchid reviews and updates that just keep getting pushed back...I could try to do it indoors but living with with a household of five and two dogs....it can become quite a tedious task and in most cases I just become overly frustrated and give up. :( ...but I will make it a way somehow...I get so many comments and requests about future videos that sometimes I feel like I'm letting my orchid buddies down...but I can only do so much... :( ...and the twins are doing well....but have started to grow very slowly and nothing too much difference in their appearance other than they have grown a wee bit (winter now in session)....but nothing to write home about...so I will more than likely do an update when I notice a considerable change. I imagine now it must be pretty cold in your area....brrrrrrrr...any snow yet? Well I am sending you warm sunshiney wishes...and also hoping that you and hubby dear have a wonderful holiday season. :)
@Rosemary457

+PictureMaria1 Awe thanks hun, The weather here is just really gloomy, And is dark most of the time, Like perpetual evening, And raining a lot And temps are up and down, Perfect flu weather, Don't worry about doing a video for the twins I was just curious, Sounds like your pretty busy any way, Phals can be a pain anyway, My phal are doing nothing either, One put out some buds on an old spike then when I noticed them it killed them off, And another has What looks like a keiki growing on and old spike too, I'm just waiting for it to notice that I have seen it so it too will kill it off LOL, I only left these old spike on to support the plant because they had no roots and were dying when I bought them and was using the old spike to clip a support cane too. .Your not letting anyone down, We all have lives outside of yt and orchids, And things have to be put on the back burner, No snow yet, Just more flipping rain drizzle and damp LOL, Trouble is every time it rains hubby gets sent home early so loses money, He's a roofer and you can't work in the rain up a scaffold, Too dangerous, Warm sunshiny wishes right back at ya hun, You have a wonderful holiday season too, Huge warm hugs Rosemary XX :-)

So, there is ONE nubbin pushing through. I'll take it!! This poor girl came to me ravaged by root rot and stem rot; so there's barely any viable stem left, no roots, and only 3 leaves left. I'm just glad I was able to stop the infection at all. But I tried a bunch of other methods first that just ended with mold. I'm so relieved this is finally working. But, she's not outta the woods yet. We'll see!

Hi Maria. I've been searching for a method for root generation on my vanda that have been infected with fusarium. Although it's been treated was wondering will this method promote new root growth? as the roots that im currently having on my vanda are starting to loose their growting tips and I'm not sure whether wrapping it and keeping it moist won't promote another fusarium infection.
