sounds superb, and as i've said elsewhere, i love the prototype aesthetics - what a designer too, purposefully taking into account the fact that most can't afford the pleasure of modular, very commendable - now everyone can be jack dangers, and i like that sequencer...

The concept for the 16 step sequencer is pretty cool IMO. Setting 5 CV values and then programming a 16-step pattern of those values is limiting in a very good way.

Build quality is actually very good and the format is compatible with eurorack by inexpensive adapters. I run my Neutron through AE Steiner filter and the waveshaper. Works great.

Do the CV levels work with the Neutron?
@TimeScribe5 жыл бұрын
George Ray Yes. There is an in/out module that takes cv and audio from the AE system to 3.5mm Eurorack jacks. Eurorack cv or audio can go in or out of these jacks. www.tangiblewaves.com/store/p46/4I%2FO.html The master unit also has two audio and two cv in/outs.

I like the jumper wire patch system and the way that it is standardized at the top along the edges... also using the standard euro-rack voltages. Even using rubber stamps to label the face plates means that the tooling for new boards is quicker. This seems like a friendly format for building limited and experimental modules.

Been looking at getting back into modular again (boy do I miss my dotcom setup, but I... don't miss the amount of room it takes up!)... I definitely like the way they're looking at all this - great quality sound, size benefits of the smaller formats, but without having the "pain to the wallet" kind of pricing you'd typically see. ....Wait, seriously, their two-row case starter system isn't even $700 CAD with shipping?!?!?!!?!?!? It's seriously about $7 CAD more than a 0-coast, wow. So I could realistically build a rather powerful system that fills two cases, yet only hits the wallet for $1,500ish CAD or so, and maybe a four case setup for not too much more, and still wind up being cheaper than some of the starter systems out there. There very well might have been some rather happy swearing made, given that this is something I'd much rather save up for than a semi-modular synth, doubly so with that sequencer! ...And even more so given that if one has $200 CAD to spare, you can actually buy several modules with such cash...

@theorist54975 жыл бұрын
Tangible Waves make adapter frames in 8U, 12U and 16U which allows you to mount AE modules into eurorack format. So you could ostensibly purchase a few of those, plus something similar to a Tiptop Happy Ending Kit (with power) or an Exploding Shed euro rackmount kit (just 2 rails, 2 rack ears, threaded strips, no power) and be good to go.
@Sebastian_Roth5 жыл бұрын
theorist but it’s not about adding it to eurorack but to 19 inch racks ...
@theorist54975 жыл бұрын
@@Sebastian_Roth And what I said should get you exactly that - with a little finagling. Euro is based on the same standard. 84hp rails with rack ears will fit into a standard 19" rack - they dont call them "rack ears" for nothing :P Also I see the confusion may have come from how AE lists their adapter units - the 8U, 12U, and 16U - I copied those straight over from the website without thinking about it. For some reason they are using U = AE units/modules instead of horizontal pitch. They seem to do that all over the website now that I look closely - which I wish they wouldnt do. Thats confusing as all hell. Anyways, the lengths of the adapter units seem to be a division of standard eurorack lengths - you would just need to add up the correct combination of the adapter units to get you a full 84hp.
@theorist54975 жыл бұрын
Mutable Instruments open source modules in AE? Oh hells yeah! I've said this before, and I'm going to say it again. Roberts AE modular is the system that actually deserves all the hype, attention and investment that TE's faux "modular" PO system is getting/got. I don't have any ill will towards TE, though they have done some really shitty things imo - also made a couple great things, too. I just hate seeing a smaller manufacturer create something that is truly deserving get somewhat overlooked while a lesser product, especially from "lifestyle" brands be praised for whatever reason.
@noisebleeder60965 жыл бұрын
Curious about power compatibility with euro (+/-12 , 5v range as usual with same powered bus or ..??), anyway ... that Solina module !! Ok , now AE Modular is talking to me ... way to go ... bring on more strings/brass, and of course adapting mutable instruments is just the way to go to make that system more appealing , liked the grids iteration .. great ;) ready to drop some € for a AE drum system and a solina ... mmm , gotta sell some Euro actually .
@DavidDeLuge4 жыл бұрын
Would you recommend this system based on seeing it up close? The modules certainly seem to sound excellent but what's the build quality like?
@noahhultgren1934 жыл бұрын
Hey, I don't own one yet, but I have seen one before and have worked with the materials it's built from, personally I would recommend it for sure. While im sure it's not quite as sturdy as a Moog system or some other huge metallic behemoth like that. It is still quite sturdy and also much more portable (that's the main reason im getting one). Im am certain it will be fine in a studio, but you should probably be careful if you want to tour or gig with it. I am planning to put mine in a metal suitcase or some other sort of case like that if I end up bringing it to gigs. The only components I would really want to be careful with are the knobs, and even those seem fine. Hope that helps.

Why is eurorack so expensive? Would the same modules for 21-95 be possible in the eurorack format?
@256k_5 жыл бұрын
the biggest price in euro modules is panel, knobs and jacks. he got rid of jacks entirely as well as expensive metal panels.
@ethanmarciano15335 жыл бұрын
Eurorack is expensive because of fancy materials all manifacturers use today (aluminium, sophisticated paint jobs). Eurorack is a high-end type of system. Yes, I think modules like these would be possible, all you have to do is using cardboard or MDF front panels that fit eurorack format and simple potentiometers without knobs, but it's like Ferrari selling cheap city cars. In the tangible waves website there are adapters for fitting the modules in eurorack systems. P.S: Behringer, 1 year ago, announced clones of Roland System modules for 50-100 euros... It will be a nice thing if these will be out in the market
@256k_5 жыл бұрын
@@ethanmarciano1533 yeah another thing about module prices also is manufacturing ability and mass production, most module makes (if not all) are small companies that push out a tiny amound of units, i was listening to walker from make noise on a podcast and he said maths (which is considered one of the best selling and most saught after modules) has only sold 5000 units total. this is an insignificant amount in the mass production world, which is why unit prices stay high. if modules were selling in the 200k+ units their prices would be much much lower... modular and euro is stil lvery niche, but seems like the hype is increasing exponentially so maybe in the future we willstart seeing commercial modules at dirt cheap prices and most manufactureres today will be more "boutique" type modules, just compare it to the pedals industry.
