Hello, thanks for that. Appreciate you wanted to see me work with it. I don't know the Spazedrum, actually not heard of it. @@DivKid that would be so great. most videos show the Spazedrum from a nasty and harsh side, but it can for sure do so many other things. What would be the next step? Somebody has to ask Gotharman to send you one? Or in case he does not have one ready built, how long would you need one lent from a user?

Honestly, I've got no intention of ever buying a hardware timbral sculptor module, but I always get some good ideas from these videos. Audio rate modulation of wavefolding is a winner for a start! Makes a nice filthy fuzz pedal too. I've tried a few wavefolders on guitar in VCV and wasn't impressed. I'll have to revisit my timbral sculpting after watching this. Cheers!

Visit MylarMelodies youtube channel, he has a bunch of videos breaking down the building blocks of a modular. In general though, you are going to need minimum: 1. A power supply. A TipTop Happy Ending Kit is a good place to start if you are dabbling. Very affordable and enough to power a decent number of modules. 2. Something that makes sound, such as an oscillator, or a self-resonating filter. A lot of fun can be had self patching a single module. 3. A way to listen, that being an audio output module to send to speakers, preferrably one with a headphone output as well, such as the affordable Pittsburgh Outs. Naturally you'll need headphones and speakers too. From there it is all about adding modulation, envelopes, VCAs, utilities, more filters, more oscillators, more filters, more VCAs, more filters, more modulation, more filters.... Plus maybe some effects, if you are into that sort of thing.

@divkid - I'm wanting to control the vca with an envelope from my Doepfer A-140 with a pico vco running through it as opposed to doing CV into my veils but just can't seem to get it to happen. It's just a droning wave, got any advice?
@DivKid
@DivKid Жыл бұрын
Hello, you're wanting to use the VCA on this right? So patch the envelope to the VCA CV input, turn down the VCA bias and that should work. In more detail ... patch sound to VCA in, patch output (to mixer/speakers etc) from VCA out. Patch the envelope to VCA CV this will now open and close the VCA with the envelope. VCA Bias is a manual offset control for the VCA (can be called, level, gain, bias all doing the same thing) so if this is up you've manually opened the VCA with that knob. It needs to be down if you want it closed. Then the CV can control the level fully. If that's working for you think about where you want the VCA (input or output on the switch) and then patch accordingly. Which would be VCA in (if VCA is wanted first and switch set to input) and Chain Out. Or patch to Chain In and VCA Out if you want the VCA at the end and switch set to output. Hope that helps, if not let me know.

It's a great combination of filter, folder, VCA, wave shaper. This and a single oscillator (or two) does so much. Not trying to push it though, do you have anything similar (or VCV rack maybe?) that you can try some of the patch ideas and combinations of functions with?
@Nick-kb6jd
@Nick-kb6jd 11 ай бұрын
@@DivKid It feels like the module is something I could patch up on my rig. I have all the constituent parts (or versions thereof) I just wander how I'd patch: "......in the resonance path of the filter, a rectifier network and Lockhart wavefolder." Not sure how to access the resonance path, or even what it is.
@DivKid
@DivKid 11 ай бұрын
resonance in a filter circuit is a feedback loop. you could patch your own feedback around a filter by splitting the output of the filter (one copy to listen to and use normally, one to make feedback with). Then use a mixer at the input of the filter, first input your actual normal sound to filter/fold etc. Second input is the output patched into that filter so it also feeds the filter input. That makes the feedback loop. The level of output in that mixer is feedback level, bonus points if you have an inverter on the output so you can invert feedback or leave it normal. Anything you put in that feedback loop then starts to take affect, for this patch the split of the output into a folder, take the folder into the input mixer and you now have a feedback loop with folding in it. The more these things are broken down the more compelling the module becomes of course. Though I do love breaking things out and trying to patch things myself. Also it won't be exactly the same, but it will give you a flavour of that sort of thing.
