Intellijel - Rainmaker on melodies *Richard Devine Presets*

Here's some of the Richard Devine presets for the Rainmaker from Intellijel. The patch is two oscillator running independent melodies but they both have linear FM from the other VCO. So there's a feedback loop of FM from VCO1 frequency modulating VCO2 which goes back to frequency modulate VCO1 ... which goes to 2, back to 1 etc etc.

I haven't really seen a whole lot of people who own this, or demo it well (You certainly do though). As a shapeshifter owner I think it's probably because the cylonix collaboration modules are intensely deep and complex. I could see a lot of people finding it taking too long to figure out how to employ it well, and therefore they end up selling it. It probably took me 2-3 months to start to really settle into using the shapeshifter. the first month with it I simply felt like everything I was doing was a total dice roll. Even after thoroughly reading the manual and playing with it, it seemed like everything I did produced totally strange and terrible noisey results. Everything I did quickly drove my sound into essentially white noise. However, now I am finding it is my absolute favorite module. Time and time again I find interesting timbres (and morphing between timbres) that I simply have never heard in any music in my life, ever. And each time I play with it the results are wildly different. I imagine the rainmaker is very similar. I guess I'll find out when I inevitably buy one ;)

There's definitely a range of modules out there like that. They'll take a good while to get comfortable with and sometimes a short while to get decent results even before you understand what you're doing. They reward the learning and time investment though I find, although plenty of people just buy and sell pretty quickly.

Yeah this is all surface level stuff. Add a bit of CV, clock it, trigger a few changes and you're off!

There's a lot to dive into with this and you can make it do all sorts. Really powerful device that's worth an investment of time to get deeper into.

Hey DivKid, really late to the party here but are you doing anything to the audio after the rainmaker output? I tried mimicking this setup and my rainmaker sounds really weak/noisy compared to the demo shown. Wondering if you added some compression or did anything in the rainmaker settings to get a better result, thanks in advance!

Hi Parker, I don't do anything to the recordings when I'm demonic something that makes/processes audio. Only fair to show these in the raw state when demoing is my approach. Not sure why yours would sound different.

It takes to Rings really well, bit of modulation of both Rings and some parameters on this and you're off.

It just makes everything sound incoherent and far away, nut never have been one for ambient stuff, I'll never understand it really

if you're not into ambient stuff then I'm guess delays and verbs probably aren't your thing too much. You can do some up front sounds with it too. Short re pitching delay bursts work good with harder input sounds or drums for example.

I do use delays and reverbs but more for getting things to sit in the mix and to stop things sounding too dry rather than it being the main focus for the sound. I like delays when they are used rhythmically also, not sure if this module can do rhythmical stuff, it seems more suited to drones and stuff though

This module can totally do rhythmic stuff. It has 16 taps for tempo syncing which act almost like steps in a sequencer! Heck, "Rhythmic" is even in the full name, "Rainmaker Stereo Rhythmic Delay and Comb Resonator"! ;) Seriously an awesome module. Can't wait to own one.
