@@ky6646 I hear you, but see my comment. Birth control works most of the time but if a condom breaks, it won’t be so scary if you also used a contraceptive insert. Between like ages 16 and 39 those hormones be jumping. The women in my family couldn’t take the pill. My mother couldn’t, my sister did and has no children, but she had a stroke at age 38 so there’s that. I took the pill for 3 days and ended up in ER with the MD telling me don’t take it again because it gave me a superficial blood clot so...this was 25 years ago. Maybe the pill has been tested better to include our needs as bw. There are still other types of birth control (spermicide). I had 2 children, but I really spent most of my 20’s and much of my 30’s NOT HAVING SEX after I had my two, I was like sex equals babies and no thanks for any more. I’m 46 now, my two are 25 and 27. I’m just trying to be honest about my experiences to help younger women. I suggest to young black women seeking to avoid unplanned pregnancy to talk with the women in their families about what worked for them is my point. Be well.

In my state if you have 2 kids and are under 25 and REQUEST to get your tubes tied (or hysterectomy) they will perform such. Now I don’t know about them performing tubal ligation and burning the tubes, but they will for sure tie them. Getting your tubes tied is reversible.

Øbey Day You’re incorrect. In the state of Tennessee and in the District of Columbia you can not get your tubes tied if you are that young whether you are married or not!! It varies by state and most doctors won’t do it because a young lady may get married in her 30s or 40s and may want more children! What you want in your 20s is not the same thing you would want in your 30s/40s is called life experience that is only gained by living life past the 20s.

Yes, but that’s the point. It’s a cycle. More than likely, their mother had them at an early age, uneducated, and no true father figure (perhaps several fathers for different kids and none are worth anything if they are not in prison 🙄). This young lady is pretty intelligent, for her age, and for the situation she has to manage. Based on her insinuation, I'm suspecting she has had issues with birth control, and therefore, rapid pregnancies. She is quite promising, and has undertaken to get her tubes tied. That's ludicrous for a 20 yr old, but highly appropriate for her. We have all made poor decisions, and some we have come back from. If sh can get the child care support, she can do great things with her life. So glad she was mature enough to move on. 95% of the women coming to DC, don't have the will, the skill, or even the desire to step away from their sink hole. Good job girl. Keep stepping.

I see a lot of people coming down on this young lady and basically saying her life is done, because she has 4 children at a young age. I had 4 by 20, and although it may not have seemed like a good decision to many, it was a life saver and game changer for me. I loved being a mom, there was nothing I couldn't do knowing I had those little people relying on me and i was determined to be the best for them. I never complained about being a mom, working everyday, cooking, cleaning, etc. They are all adults now, I have 4 diplomas and 1 degree to brag about and they are awesome, productive individuals. She can do great things and it looks like she wants to. Oh and BTW, I have an awesome career, and having children young didn't stop me from working hard to achieve it.

I had 4 kids at the age of 20. I’m now 40yrs old. I have 3 boys 1 girl. All 4 of them graduated high school my daughter Graduated early w/honors. My oldest is in college on a basketball scholarship. They all have their own apartments including my 20yr old and he’s the youngest. They all have cars and good jobs. Not one of them have ever been to Jail and they barely ask me for anything. I’m proud of my kids. Although I had them at a young age I wouldn’t change one thing about it. I’m 40 and fabulous no small kids at home. Me and their father is living our best life. Taking trips a running our business. It’s never to late to change your circumstances. She’s young and has a lot of life to live. Don’t count her out just yet!
