I've never owned anything with a Koehler engine. Are they as reliable as a Briggs?

I had one in my first mower turned mudder, it did great until the fuel pump messed up and dumped gas in the oil, then it smoked after I fixed it. I don't know if that is a kohler problem or not. I prefer Briggs thanks for watching.
